Antiquarian, archaeologist, vulcanologist, and envoy to the British Embassy in Naples, Sir William Hamilton (1731-1803) was a leading European figure of his time. Though the romance between his wife Lady Emma Hamilton and Horatio Nelson tends to eclipse Sir William's own activities, his work as a scientist and a classicist made major contributions to the study of Pompei, Herculaneum, and Mt. Vesuvius.
As an expert in ancient art, Hamilton also built up an invaluable collection of ancient Greek vases, subsequently sold to the British Museum in London in 1772. Before the pieces were shipped off to England, Hamilton commissioned Pierre-Francois Hugues d'Hancarville, an adventurous connoisseur and art dealer, to document the vases in words and images. The resulting catalog, published in four volumes and known as Les Antiquites d'Hancarville, represents a neoclassical masterpiece. Never before had ancient vases been represented with such meticulous detail and sublime beauty.

Třetí svazek Uměleckých památek Moravy a Slezska organicky navazuje na předchozí díly (A–I, 1994; J–N, 1999) – formálně, metodikou výzkumu i zpracováním; k tomu bylo vše vyloženo v Úvodu 1. svazku UPMS. Na vymezeném území (viz mapu na proponovaném přídeští) se zabývá 270 sídelními celky, městy, městečky, vesnicemi a jejich částmi v abecedním uspořádání sub č. 655–802, obsahujícími díla umělecké povahy v rozsahu od slovanské kultury po současnost. Zabývá se hist. urbanismem, výtvory z oblastí architektury, sochařství, malířství a uměleckého řemesla – pokud se nacházejí in situ. Zmiňuje i depozitní instituce, archivy a muzea, a souborně charakterizuje jejich umělecké sbírky. Česká architektonická avantgarda
Česká architektonická avantgarda je životním dílem Otakara Nového, předního odborníka v oblasti urbanismu a životního prostředí a znalce dějin moderní architektury. Svou pozornost zaměřil na tvůrce, projekty, stavby, názory a celkový význam meziválečného funkcionalismu. Téma svého díla zasazuje do velmi široce pojatého kulturního kontextu doby od poloviny 19. do poloviny 20. století.
Autor sám byl od druhé poloviny třicátých let svědkem spletitých osudů avantgardy, prožíval její naděje a zklamání a téměř se všemi jejími významnými postavami se znal. Leopold Bauer (18721938) patřil kolem roku 1900 k předním představitelům moderní architektury ve střední Evropě. Byl označován za tvůrce prvního moderního domu v habsburské monarchii a za autora první filozoficko-teoretické reflexe moderní architektury v tomto regionu. Později však popřel svá východiska a přešel na pozice nového historismu. Monografické zpracování jeho architektonického a designérského díla je založeno na studiu Bauerovy obsáhlé písemné pozůstalosti ve vídeňské Albertině a na systematickém terénním výzkumu architektových realizací.

Chrámy peněz
Budovy bankovních domů a spořitelen zastupují v téměř každém českém městě architektonickou vrstvu, která dnes zpřítomňuje chaotické a hořko-sladkými emocemi prodchnuté období transformace společnosti po pádu totalitního režimu a budování nového demokratického státu v režii Václava Havla a Václava Klause. Největší z nich, které vznikly rozpadem Státní banky československé, ovšem svými většinovými podíly zůstaly strategicky ve vlastnictví státu, sehrály klíčovou roli v procesu privatizace a staly se tak symbolickými monumenty etapy později označované jako tzv. bankovní socialismus.
Kniha přináší příběhy 23 vybraných bankovních domů, které odrážejí specifický regionální kolorit a osobní přístup jejich architektů. Poodhaluje, jaké významy utvářejí jejich křehkou postmoderní identitu, která byla obecně spojována s příslibem nového životního stylu charakteristického pro západní společnost formující se od konce sedmdesátých let 20. století. Jednotlivé eseje o bankovních domech vznikaly převážně na bázi osobních rozhovorů s architekty a jsou doprovázeny bohatou architektonickou dokumentací, především velkým množstvím dobových fotografií, dokládajících původní reprezentativní podobu těchto staveb, která je dnes již většinou nenávratně ztracena pod nánosy rekonstrukcí.
Dobový kontext v knize dotvářejí umělecky pojaté vizuální koláže. Ty jsou sestavené ze zahraničních katalogů prezentujících kancelářské interiérové produkty a rovněž z reklam, které se tehdy objevovaly v západních architektonických časopisech a měly tak značný vliv na utváření představ zdejších architektů o podobě firemní image. Kniha tak nastavuje některé paralely mezi budováním reprezentativní identity velkých polostátních bankovních institucí a identity nového demokratického státu a obecně tak rekonstruuje scénografii společensko-politické transformace, jejích ideálů a jejích mýtů.
