Kompozice v (digitální) fotografii pohledem dvaceti pěti českých fotografů
Mary Poppins říká: When you need me, but do not want me, then i will stay. If you want me, but no longer need me then i have to go. Kompozice k fotografům promlouvá mnohem stručněji: „Toužíš po mně? Trap se. Nezajímáš se o mě? Je mi to jedno.“
Kompozice ve fotografii – pro někoho nedosažitelný fotografický svatý grál, pro jiného noční můra a pro dalšího něco, čím se moc nezabývá. Neexistuje snímek bez kompozice, ale jenom ve vzácných případech stmelí kompozice vše na snímku tak, že vznikne skvělá fotografie (nebo alespoň dobrá). Kompozici je možné umravňovat pomocí zlatého řezu, vodicími liniemi, kontrastem a mnoha dalšími pomůckami – ty ale samy o sobě tu úžasnou fotografii nezajistí. Dobře kompozičně řešit fotografii znamená mít představu a naplňovat ji, zkoušet, hledat, porovnávat – myslím, že se tomu říká tvořit.
V publikaci KOMPOZICE v [digitální] fotografii pohledem dvaceti pěti českých fotografů (seznam autorů najdete v doprovodných ukázkách) nehledejte (možná toužebně očekávaný) zázračný soubor pravidel a zásad, který by vaše fotografie rázem pozvedl na nejvyšší uměleckou úroveň. Kniha obsahuje přibližně dvě stovky fotografií dvaceti pěti současných fotografů, kteří vždy na několika stránkách a na vlastních snímcích vyjadřují svůj názor na kompozici a na to, jak oni sami ke komponování fotografie přistupují.
Tento koncept není nový, použili jsme ho již několikrát, poprvé v publikaci Naučte se komponovat kreativně, která vyšla v roce 2005 a několik jejích vydání bylo velmi rychle rozebráno. Další knihou (stejně tak úspěšnou) byla publikace AKT – naučte se fotografovat kreativně; ta vyšla poprvé v roce 2007 a rovněž se dočkala několika dotisků.
V nově připravené publikaci věnované kompozici jsou zastoupeni autoři mnoha žánrů, najdete zde krajinářskou fotografii, portrét, akt, dokument nebo sport, ale i zátiší nebo svatební fotografii či fotografování opuštěných míst. S autory můžete souhlasit i nesouhlasit, jejich fotografie vás mohou inspirovat, nebo také ne, ale pokud vás kniha přiměje zamyslet se nad vyslovenými názory a publikovanými snímky, splnila svůj účel. Kompozice se totiž rodí právě z přemýšlení a hledání.

Gandhi
A champion of civil rights and a leading light in India’s struggle for independence, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century. But he was a complex and controversial man, someone whose behaviour in his personal life – especially as a father and a husband – was often at odds with his own teachings. A master of conflict resolution, he was adept at forging alliances with his fiercest critics, yet he could be uncompromising in his treatment of family members and loyal followers.

Kolín 1923
Unikátní album sedmdesáti dvou nedatovaných fotografií Kolína a okolí vzniklo zřejmě v roce 1923. Ač předchází Funkeho avantgardní dílo, jedná se o album mimořádně závažné. Jaromír Funke tehdy fotografoval teprve čtvrtým rokem. Často zobrazoval Kolín, zejména význačné kolínské památky a stavby i městská zákoutí. Důležité jsou zejména jeho momentky snímané kvalitním příručním fotoaparátem, který na začátku dvacátých let ještě nebyl žádnou samozřejmostí. Velkou část fotografických toulek absolvoval Funke společně s Josefem Sudkem, z jehož fotografické sklizně z té doby se ale dochoval jen zlomek. Tato publikace nám dává výjimečnou příležitost potěšit se krásou tohoto Funkeho souboru a obdivovat jednotnou koncepci i provedení. Kdyby bylo album č. 19 publikováno v době svého vzniku, zřejmě by dnes figurovalo v každém přehledu významných fotografických publikací.
Daido Moriyama - Record
Inspired by the work of an earlier generation of Japanese photographers, especially by Shomei Tomatsu, and by William Klein’s seminal photographic book on New York, Daido Moriyama moved from Osaka to Tokyo in the early sixties to become a photographer. He became the leading exponent of a fierce new photographic style that corresponded perfectly to the abrasive and intense climate of Tokyo during a period of great social upheaval. His black and white pictures were marked by fierce contrast and fragmentary, even scratched, frames, which concealed his virtuoso printing. Between June 1972 and July 1973 he produced his own magazine publication, Kiroku, which was then referred to as Record. It became a diaristic journal of his work as it developed. Ten years ago he was able to resume publication of Record, which gradually expanded in extent. To date he has published thirty issues, a number of them including colour. The publication of Recordas a book enables work from all thirty issues to be edited into a single sequence, punctuated by Moriyama’s own text as it appeared in the magazines.
It used to be assumed that Moriyama’s peculiarly Japanese style was tied to his Tokyo roots. The evidence of the last ten years demonstrates that Moriyama, a restless world traveller, has been able to apply his unique vision to northern Europe, southern France, the cities of Florence, London, Barcelona, Taipei, Hong Kong, New York and Los Angeles as well as to the alleys of Osaka, and the landscape of Hokkaido. The book ends in Afghanistan.

Roger Ballen is best known for his psychologically powerful and intricately layered images that exist in a space between painting, drawing, installation, and photography. Ballenesque is the first comprehensive retrospective of his work.
