Hokusai's Fuji
A wonderfully illustrated exploration of one of Hokusai’s key motifs: Mount Fuji.
Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji and the three volumes of his subsequent One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji show his fascination with a single motif: Mount Fuji. Hokusai’s near-obsession with Fuji was part of his hankering after artistic immortality. In Buddhist and Daoist tradition, this mountain was thought to hold the secret to eternal life, as one popular interpretation of its name suggests: fu-shi (“not death”).
Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji was produced from 1830 to 1832, when Hokusai was in his seventies and at the height of his career. Among the prints are three of the artist’s most famous: The Great Wave of Kanagawa; Fine Wind, Clear Morning; and Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit. By the time he created his second great tribute to Mount Fuji, three volumes comprising One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, he was using the artist names “Gakyo Rojin” (“old man crazy for painting”) and “Manji” (“ten thousand things” or “everything”). Contrasting the mountain’s steadfastness and solidity with the changing world around it, Hokusai depicts Fuji through different seasons, weather conditions, and settings, and in so doing communicates an important message: while life changes, Fuji stands still.
Including all illustrations from these two masterful series, Hokusai’s Fuji also features many of Hokusai’s earlier renditions of the mountain, as well as later paintings. In this way, through Mount Fuji, this volume traces a history of Hokusai’s oeuvre.

Adam Kašpar
Adam Kašpar (1993) patří k výrazným představitelům nejmladší generace českých malířů. Je absolventem (2018) Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze (Ateliér malířství IV profesora Martina Mainera).
Obecným míněním je považován za realistického malíře, což v jeho pojetí neodkazuje ani tak k samotnému technickému pojetí malby či k její vnějškové podobě jako spíše k vnitřnímu prožitku, k přímému, konkrétnímu, pravdivému, a tedy realistickému pohledu a ztvárňování světa, který jej obklopuje. Sám sebe však považuje především za pozorovatele a jednu ze součástí přírody a malířství je pro něj sice zásadním, avšak stále jen prostředkem k tomu, aby výsledky svého pozorování mohl tlumočit i ostatním.
Tematicky se jeho tvorba pohybuje v prostoru mezi nebem (astronomická pozorování), zemí (lesy, pralesy a krajina) a podzemím (geologické průzkumy). Za svými motivy pravidelně jezdí nejen po českých zemích, ale i do zahraničí (Mongolsko, Bosna, Island, Skotsko...). Příležitostně spolupracuje s přírodovědci, jmenovitě s Českou geologickou službou, NP Šumava nebo Národním muzeem. Jeho domovem i ateliérem jsou Jeseníky.
Monografie představuje tři tvůrčí okruhy Adama Kašpara, zahrnuje jeho geologické, ekologické a astronomické studie. Autory studií jsou Jan Dotřel, Pavel Dvořák, Barbora Kundračíková a Matthew Rampley.
Adam Kašpar (1993) is one of the prominent representatives of the youngest generation of Czech artists. He graduated (2018) from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Painting Studio IV, led by Martin Mainer).
He is generally regarded as a realist painter, which in his understanding refers neither to the technical conception of painting nor to its external form, but rather to an inner experience, to a direct, concrete, truthful, and therefore realistic view and depiction of the world that surrounds him. However, he considers himself primarily an observer and one of the components of nature, and painting is for him an essential, but nevertheless, a means to communicate the results of his observation to others.
Thematically, his work lies in the space between the sky (astronomical observations), the earth (forests and landscapes) and the underground (geological explorations). He regularly travels not only in the Czech lands but also abroad (Mongolia, Bosnia, Iceland, Scotland...) in search of his motifs. Occasionally, he cooperates with natural scientists, namely with the Czech Geological Survey, NP Šumava or the National Museum. His home and studio are in Jeseníky Mountains.
The monograph presents the three creative areas of Adam Kaspar, including his geological, ecological, and astronomical studies. The authors of the studies are Jan Dotřel, Pavel Dvořák, Barbora Kundračíková and Matthew Rampley.
Pes v umění

Ha aztán kellő szorgalom és eltökéltség segítségével sikerül kiaknázniuk tehetségüket, maguk is eljuthatnak a csúcsra: nagyrabecsülés övezheti őket, elfogadottakká, keresettekké válhatnak. Megszabadulhatnak anyagi gondjaiktól, és - némi szerencsével - elkötelezett támogatókat is találhatnak családjukban, tágabb környezetükben. Minden adott hát ahhoz, hogy zavartalanul az alkotásnak élhessenek. Csakhogy az idő múltával nemegyszer saját esendő testük gördít eléjük akadályokat, követel mind több figyelmet magának, és nem ritka, hogy csak egyre nagyobb erőfeszítéssel lehet ideig-óráig felülkerekedni rajta.
Ezt élte meg az impresszionizmus két kiemelkedő festőművésze, Claude Monet és Pierre-Auguste Renoir is. Szerencsénkre nem adták meg magukat a sorsuknak.
Seth - On Walls
Seth: On Walls collects the colorful, visual universe of a globe-trotting street artist who paints with purpose.
For street artist Seth, walls around the world have been canvases for resilience, a space where imagination and real-life encounters become murals of expression, dialogue, and community. Children are often a part of his work, taking him—and us—through city streets on a poetic discovery of their universe, like the rabbit hole into which Lewis Carroll’s Alice plunges.
Seth: On Walls is an insightful, visual exploration of a decade of his travels and the paintings he created in locations such as the working-class districts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and the war-torn Donbas region of Ukraine. Drawing inspiration from local myths, legends, and tales, and often collaborating with other artists, Seth works within the social, political, and cultural contexts of the places he visits. Although his work consists mostly of paintings, the photography he shares not only immortalizes the ephemerality and memory of his work but also conveys the spirit of the place and the relationship between the artwork and its environment. Lubomír Přibyl: Retrospektiva
Obsáhlá publikace vyšla u příležitosti výstavy Lubomíra Přibyla v Museu Kampa konané v roce 2023. Kniha navazuje na autorovu monografii připravenou Jiřím Valochem (Gallery, Praha 2006). Doplňuje práce z posledních let a více jsou v ní zastoupena díla z padesátých a šedesátých let. Texty Jany Šindelové, Adama Štěcha, Ilony Víchové a Martiny Vítkové jsou doplněny dobovými texty z let 1964 - 2019. Tvorbu přibližuje nespočet reprodukcí, řada dobových fotografií a závěrem pohledy do aktuální expozice v Museu Kampa. Lubomír Přibyl je osobitým představitelem konstruktivismu v českém výtvarném umění a výstava v Museu Kampa je dosud největší a nejucelenější přehlídkou jeho tvorby. V tzv. Konírně Musea Kampa měl před třemi lety menší výstavu zaměřenou na práce z 60. let, nynější výstava ukáže kontinuitu a vnitřní sevřenost Přibylovy tvorby napříč více než šesti desetiletími. Ačkoliv má autor na svém kontě několik stovek výstav doma i v zahraničí, pro širší veřejnost bude Přibylovo dílo do značné míry objevem. Po většinu života stál poněkud stranou domácího výtvarného provozu. V českém kontextu výjimečná je i důslednost, se kterou pokračuje v rozvíjení uměleckých přístupů a konstrukčních principů vycházejících z geometrické abstrakce a minimalismu. Od stylizovaných figurativních maleb inspirovaných lidovým uměním se Lubomír Přibyl v první polovině 60. let dopracoval ke geometrickým strukturám vytvářeným za pomoci sítí a provazů napínaných na desky z překližky. Výsledné nízké reliéfy překrývá černou olejovou barvou nebo plátky hliníku. Přestože jde o přísné monochromy, působí velice živými dojmem. Plocha obrazů se neustále proměňuje v závislosti na úhlu dopadu světla i pohybu diváka ve výstavním prostoru. Druhou důležitou část Přibylova díla představuje grafika. Jeho grafické listy kopírují stylový vývoj jeho maleb, ještě více však akcentují geometrické a konstruktivistické principy, ze kterých vycházejí. Od začátku 60. let Přibyl se svými rozměrnými černobílými tisky zaznamenal řadu úspěchů na mezinárodních výstavách grafiky a v roce 2006 se stal laureátem domácí Ceny Vladimíra Boudníka, která je udělována jako ocenění celoživotního díla.
Typlt: Levitace
Výpravná publikace nazvaná Levitace představuje aktuální tvorbu Lubomíra Typlta, který patří k nejlepším současným výtvarným umělcům. Kniha vyšla u příležitosti Typltovy úspěšné výstavy v pražské galerii Villa Pellé. V souboru obrazů a několika objektů z let 2021–2023, jež měly na výstavě svou premiéru, rozvíjí Typlt svá dosavadní východiska a sleduje několik vzájemně na sebe odkazujících tematických figurálních i objektových řad, jež se v jeho vypjaté představivosti v posledních dvou letech silně prosadily. Typltův strhující, zhuštěný, zkratkovitý umělecký projev, pohybující se dlouhodobě na pomezí jemnosti a syrovosti, vytříbenosti a výjimečnosti, získává rok od roku na silné průraznosti, vyvolané jeho dynamicky se rozvíjející, neutuchající představivostí. Unikátní publikaci doprovodil zasvěcenými texty historik umění Karel Srp, který umělcovu tvorbu sleduje dlouhodobě.
Typlt si již během studia na düsseldorfské Akademii, kde měl jako jeden z prvých československých posluchačů po roce 1989 možnost studovat u takových veličin, jako byli A. R. Penck, Gerhard Merz a Markus Lüpertz, osvojil dva přístupy, jež jej fascinují přes dvacet let: vztah k barvě jako nosnému výrazovému prostředku a ke všednímu předmětu, poskytujícímu podnět k metaforickému přehodnocení.

Prvním titulem knižní edice Muzea umění Olomouc – Středoevropského fóra, jejímž cílem je prezentovat, kriticky zhodnotit či do širšího kulturního i sociogeografického kontextu střední Evropy konce 20. a počátku 21. století včlenit místní autory, je monografie Jiřího Lindovského. Michelangelo’s nude drawings are celebrated for their depiction of the heroic figure. Emanating exceptional strength, monumentality, and vigorous emotions, his nudes became the standard bearers for centuries of figure drawing. This book examines the legacy of that ideal, through highly engaging texts and luminous reproductions of drawings, prints, and sculptures. In addition to key works by Michelangelo—including drawings for the Sistine Chapel, the unfinished fresco of the Battle of Cascina, and the tomb of Pope Julius II—readers will discover works by Raphael, Dürer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Klimt, and Schiele.

Monet’s Minutes is a revelatory account charting the relationship between the works of Claude Monet (1840–1926)?founder of French Impressionism and one of the world’s best-known painters?and the modern experience of time. André Dombrowski illuminates Monet’s celebration of instantaneity in the context of the late nineteenth-century time technologies that underwrote it.
Monet’s version of Impressionism demonstrated an acute awareness of the particularly modern pressures of time, but until now scholars have not examined the histories and technologies of time and timekeeping that informed Impressionism’s major stylistic shifts. Arguing that the fascination with instantaneity rejected the dulling cultures of newly routinized and standardized time, Monet’s Minutes traces the evolution of Monet’s art to what were then seismic shifts in the shape of time itself.
In each chapter, Dombrowski focuses on the connections between a set of Monet’s works and a specific technology or experience of time, while providing the voices of period critics responding to Impressionism. Grounded in exceptional research and analyses, this book offers new interpretations of key paintings by Monet and a fresh perspective on late nineteenth-century art, society, and modern temporality.
Frans Hals

This beautifully illustrated book offers a fresh scholarly appraisal of Frans Hals, more than 30 years since the last large exhibition devoted to his work. Essays cover all the important aspects of Hals’s oeuvre, including his militia paintings, his spectacular family portraits and his depictions of laughter: he was one of very few artists throughout the history of Western painting who successfully managed to paint people smiling and laughing. The texts also provide an overview of the artist’s life, and examine his extraordinarily virtuoso technique, which involved painting extremely fast straight on to the canvas.
The authors set out to place Hals and his work firmly in the context of his time, employing new previously unpublished archival research and technical findings. For the first time, an overview is given of all the apprentices who worked for Hals. Other themes, such as the design for portrait prints or the humour seen in the works of Frans Hals, have never before been treated separately.
