Rome's Age of Revolution
Rome's Age of Revolution corrects the triumphalist narrative that the Christian message was so persuasive, and indeed superior, that people converted in huge numbers, abandoning their pagan beliefs, thereby turning a small, persecuted sect into the state religion of the Roman Empire.
Tim Whitmarsh shows that Christianity would never have succeeded if it had not taken advantage of the infrastructure and culture of the Roman Empire; in turn the new religion was indelibly shaped and transformed by Roman beliefs and ideas, especially those circulating in the Greek-speaking, or Hellenistic, eastern parts of the empire. This radical transformation, Tim argues, can only be described as a revolution. And the consequences are with us to this day.
Papírsárkányok
„Szerettem a kabuli telet.

The Ballad of Ronan McCoy
A tender coming-of-age story about friendship, first love, loss, and facing the ultimate question: who am I going to be? For fans of Douglas Stuart, Michael Magee, David Nicholls and Andrew O'Hagan
Brendan's best friend, his only friend, is Ronan McCoy. He knows things about Brendan that no one else does: about his job washing the cars at Feeney's Funeral Home, about the loneliness he sometimes feels even when surrounded by hundreds of others at school. But Brendan never told Ronan about the dark feeling that sits at the bottom of his stomach, the feeling that tells him something bad is coming. It never comes when Ronan's around.
Ronan is smart and sporty and popular, totally comfortable in his own skin: all the things that Brendan himself isn't. But Ronan always makes him feel like a good friend, a good person, a better Brendan.
Standing at the school gates on the first day of term, the dark feeling begins to form in Brendan's stomach. And when Ronan doesn't turn up, Brendan learns that something terrible happened to his best friend over the summer and he'll never be the same again. Over the course of the final year of school, Brendan will have to learn to navigate the new shape of their friendship and find a place for himself in the world without Ronan to protect him.
The Ballad of Ronan McCoy is a beautifully written, tender coming-of-age story about friendship and first love, loss and letting go, and the hopes and fears of a young man standing on the cusp of the rest of his life.

The Death Row Club
SOME THINGS RUN IN THE BLOOD…
A darkly twisted and wonderfully original debut thriller for fans of Riley Sager and Jessica Knoll - at an annual weekend getaway for the adult children of serial killers, the participants begin to wonder if somebody's continuing the family tradition when one of their number turns up dead.
Plenty of people have lousy parents, but Nicola Fischer's father has just been convicted of murdering five young women, including her best friend. Fired from her job and hounded by reporters, Nicola passes the time by doomscrolling and drunk-dialling Greer Woods, the alluring host of the hit show To Catch a Killer, who cracked the case and turned Nicola's life upside down before disappearing along with her so-called 'best intentions'.
When an email from Greer finally shows up in Nicola's inbox, there's no apology or explanation, just a cryptic invitation. The Death Row Club is an annual weekend getaway for the adult children of serial killers - and Nicola is the newest reluctant member. Desperate to escape her small town, she accepts the offer with barely a second thought, forging tentative bonds with her fellow club members, most of whom seem intriguing, and only slightly unhinged.
But when an uninvited guest shows up at their remote wilderness retreat, everyone is put on high alert, and the next morning paranoia turns to outright fear. Because one of their own is dead, and the rest of them are left with only one question.
If the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, which of them is the bad seed?
The Arachnid
The hauntingly beautiful second book in the historical gothic romance Poisoner series, where Alina Lis finds herself in hiding from her vampiric ex-lover, Silas. They're a couple deadly as sin, and as intoxicating as a sip of poison . . .
She was once his. He has no intention of letting her go.
Two years after fleeing London society, Alina Lis has found a new life in America, leading a commune of women like herself, with the greater purpose of experimenting on the Vipera. But peace, she learns, is as fragile as a spider's web in winter.
Because Silas Forbes, the very Vipera who once claimed her, hasn't forgotten. His thirst for Alina fuels him to track her down at any cost, and he's brought along Luka Novikov for the hunt - a man who betrayed her, forever marked by the poisoner's kiss and bound to Silas in blood and debt.
With Silas and Luka back in her life, everything around Alina begins to unravel. The walls she's built are no defence against a predator like Silas, or the dangerous pull he still holds. When the human and Vipera worlds suddenly collide, threatening all she's fought to protect, can Alina let go of the past and put her fate in the hands of two villianous immortals she once swore to never trust again?
*This is a dark, supernatural romance for a mature, 18+ audience and contains themes and content that aren't to everyone's liking. Please check the author's note at the beginning of the book for content warnings before reading.*

Existenciálny manažment 2
Existenciálny manažment 2: Ontologická architektúra organizácie, zmysel organizácie a jednota rozhodovania v čase je odborným pokračovaním knihy Existenciálny manažment: Ako prežiť a zvíťaziť v chaose dnešného sveta.

Visit the locations where Pepys resided and worked, the dockyards he inspected at Woolwich and Chatham, as well as the churches where he worshipped and the coffee houses and taverns he frequented. Examine items such as the bills of mortality Pepys read during the plague, his wig, the church steeple from which he observed the Great Fire, and his will. Full of quirky facts and fascinating illustrations, this book transports you back to seventeenth-century London through places and objects central to Pepys’ life.
Liberty Island
1900: Twenty-eight-year-old Anna Bradley is spending the summer on a rugged island off the coast of Haven Point, Maine, supervising her niece, Julia Demarest, and two other spirited girls. As the children race through the woods playing pirates, treasure hunters, and Roughriders, Anna—an ambitious college graduate determined to chart her own path—finds unexpected inspiration. She secretly pens Liberty Island, a bold, imaginative novel celebrating girls unbound by the expectations of marriage and motherhood. The book becomes a runaway hit with young readers, but draws scorn from the social elite, who see it as dangerous and unbecoming. As the book's popularity grows and Anna’s carefully kept secret teeters on the edge of exposure, she must also navigate a burgeoning romance—and reconsider everything she thought she wanted for her future. 1922: Julia Demarest, now twenty-nine, was once enchanted by her aunt’s bestselling books. But times have changed—and so has she. Disillusioned by the restrictions of her privileged upbringing and disenchanted by a failed romance with a bohemian intellectual, Julia finds herself adrift and estranged from her family. When a sudden call brings her back to Haven Point, she must reckon with the ghosts of her past, the ideals she once dismissed, and what freedom truly means to her. Rich with heart and history, Liberty Island is an unforgettable story of love, legacy, and belonging.
9 szeretetnyelv
Desperate Remedies
''She was swayed into emotional opinions concerning the strange man before her; new impulses of thought...entered into her with a gnawing thrill.''Hardy''s first published work, Desperate Remedies moves the sensation novel into new territory. The anti-hero, Aeneas Manston, as physically alluring as he is evil, even fascinates the innocent Cytherea, though she is in love with another man. When he cannot seduce her, Manston resorts to deception, blackmail, bigamy, murder, and rape. Yet this compelling story also raises the great questions underlying Hardy''s major novels, which relate to the injustice of the class system, the treatment of women, probability and causality. This edition shows for the first time that the sensation novel was always Hardy''s natural medium.ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World''s Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford''s commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.
Goods Wagons in the UK
There is no doubt that a greater understanding of the UK wagon fleet enhances the appreciation of the rail-enthusiasts’ hobby, whether for railway modelling purposes or simply enjoying watching the real thing, or both. The wagon numbering system alone is outdated and can be a minefield. Wagons built since 2008, including some conversions and rebuilds, now conform to the Europe-wide system of wagon numbering. In this book, however, the focus is on exploring almost 200 examples from among the thousands of UK wagons remaining in use that carry private-owner or nationalised UK air-braked numbering systems.Since the TOPS coding system was introduced in the 1970s much has changed in the rail-freight sector. The alphabetical classification used for wagon types has not. In this publication the 100 or so classifications are each featured and explained. Ranging from flat wagons for carrying shipping containers to wagons designed specifically for carrying steel or stone, for example, the variety of wagons built in the twentieth century that are still in use today are detailed.Drawing on one of the largest collections of wagon images on the Internet, John Jackson explores these survivors with the featured wagons arranged numerically for ease of reference. The cross-section included is designed to enhance the enthusiast’s understanding and, it is hoped, enjoyment of watching freight trains in the UK.
The Maternal Element
Siberia 1833. Forty-one-year-old Maria Mendeleeva is enduring her seventeenth pregnancy. Her husband Ivan has lost his sight, and her brother Vasily has left their grandfather’s glass factory in ruins. The factory Maria hungered for as a child. On the brink of poverty and her family’s only remaining hope, Maria must find a way to make the factory viable. She must find the power to bring her grandfather's dreams back to life. She must make the glass sing. The Maternal Element is a sweeping, gripping epic with an extraordinary woman at its heart. Maria Mendeleeva – mother of Dmitri Mendeleev, who devised the Periodic Table of the Elements – is a heroine like no other. A woman who refuses to be quashed by circumstance, Maria fights against the strictures of her time to gain an education for herself and for her children as she traverses the Urals of Russia seeking opportunity and safety for her family. A vivid and visceral portrait of a woman history has long since forgotten, The Maternal Element is a manifesto for truth, female empowerment and defying societal expectations.
Cesta do Jonestownu: Jim Jones a Chrám lidu
Cesta do Jonestownu, osmá kniha oranžové true crime edice, je definitivní, ucelenou a důkladnou studií jednoho z nejničivějších kultů moderní doby.
