Tonight the Music Seems So Loud
He wrote one of the biggest hits of our age in 'about an hour' in his childhood bedroom.
He would go on to collaborate with some of the greatest musicians of all time, from Aretha Franklin to Stevie Wonder.
He was a pop star who bleached his hair blonde, wore tiny shorts and, at the same time, critiqued his own image mercilessly.
He lived through the AIDS crisis and one of the most homophobic periods of British history and yet when he finally came out, he did so boldly and unapologetically.
Wham! were the first Western pop group to play in Communist China and he repeatedly broke boundaries in music too.
Ten years after his death, George Michael is still everywhere: the annual success of 'Last Christmas', new covers of his songs, and endless memes on social media.
Tonight the Music Seems So Loud is at once a kaleidoscopic portrait of one of Britain's most beloved musicians and an account of a strange and turbulent period of British history. In his unconventional and enthralling book, bestselling author Sathnam Sanghera explores the connection between music and politics, exposes what secrecy does to the soul, and reveals how fame rots the sense of self. Throughout, Sanghera captures, joyfully and poignantly, one of Britain's greatest artists in all his musical glory.
The One Day You Were My Husband
HE PROMISED HER A LIFETIME. HE GAVE HER FOUR HOURS.
Twelve years ago, Carrie said "I do" on a sun-drenched beach in Thailand. Four hours later, her world shattered when her husband, Johan, was snatched away in a violent abduction. He was never seen again.
Today, Carrie is a working mum, navigating the beautiful chaos of raising premature twins and rebuilding her life with a man who truly loves her. She has finally found peace. The past is a closed book.
Until she sees his face on a computer screen.
Johan is alive. He has a new life. And he never tried to find her.
Driven by a desperate need for answers, Carrie risks the stability of her marriage and the safety of her family to uncover the truth of what happened that day in Thailand. But as she peels back the layers of Johan's double life, she is forced to face a devastating question:
Is the truth worth the destruction of her second chance at happiness?
A love story with the pulse of a thriller, The One Day You Were My Husband is a "gasp-inducing" journey through secrets, motherhood, and the high cost of a first love that refuses to stay buried.
How to Win a Trade War
An essential guide to our new era of economic competition. From Soumaya Keynes, podcaster and columnist at the Financial Times and Chad Bown, former Chief Economist at the US State Department under President Biden.
We used to take trade for granted. Trillions of dollars of goods and services crossed borders each year. Nobody paid too much attention: it just worked.
Now, surging oil prices can hit your mortgage. Trump's latest tariff announcement can crash markets and ruin your pension. Brexit can sever Britain from its closest trading partners. Chinese restrictions can bring the West's car production to a crashing halt. Curbs on trade in cutting-edge chips could determine who wins the AI race. The stakes couldn't be higher.
In this irreverent guide, Keynes and Bown explore the history, players, and rules of trade, asking how we prepare for what the future might hold. Could trade wars lead to hot wars? What can the West learn from China? How should countries defend their economies?
Timely, funny and informative, How to Win a Trade War argues that the old system is dead. But what will emerge in its place? And ultimately, what is at stake for you, your country, and your company?
Stealing Hitler's Rocket
This is the incredible story of how one of Adolf Hitler's top secret V2 rockets was stolen by the Poles and smuggled to Britain in the most extraordinary operation of the Second World War. More extraordinary still, it is a story that is utterly neglected.
The V2 rocket was part of Adolf Hitler's plan to break British morale. The world's first rocket delivered warhead, the VI, had killed thousands of British people before allied forces captured its launch sites and halted the weapon in its tracks. What they weren't ready for was a new and more terrifying rocket appearing seemingly out of thin air - this one as tall as a four-storey building and using highly advanced technology. Powered by a rocket engine burning a mix of alcohol-water and liquid oxygen, the V2 blasted its way to the edge of space, before falling back to Earth at supersonic speed and killing thirty thousand people. This was the threat of Hitler's terror made devastatingly real.
But Winston Churchill's intelligence chiefs had known of the weapon weeks before it first struck the mainland, and British operatives hatched a plan with Polish resistance forces to smuggle one of these rockets out from underneath Hitler's nose. In Stealing Hitler's Rocket, Guy Walters reveals the true extent of the secret and life-threatening operation undertaken by the allies and the Polish underground movement that changed the course of history forever.

Unparliamentary
From fistfights to scandals, Unparliamentary provides a sourced account of unexpected events that have marked the history of Canada’s Parliament. It offers an intriguing look into surprising moments that occurred on Parliament Hill, highlighting the unpredictable nature of human behaviour – especially among legislators. Moving from Confederation to the present day, Charlie Feldman explores moments from the less formal side of national politics, including conflicts between parliamentarians and acts of disorder, as well as instances of controversy and error in both the Senate and House of Commons. Many of the episodes discussed once attracted public attention but have since faded from memory, even among parliamentarians themselves. Unparliamentary draws on a wide range of historical and archival materials to document these incidents and bring them to life. Demonstrating how parliamentary truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, this book is written in a direct and accessible style and functions as both a reference work and as a readable account of the Parliament’s unconventional history.

Ferrari 333 Sp
In this richly illustrated book, Terry O'Neil details the origins of a remarkable racecar, the Ferrari 333 SP. This vehicle heralded the famed automaker's return to professional sports car competitions after an absence of more than twenty years. Introduced on the American racing circuit in 1994, it found instant success and continued to be a major player in numerous races in the US and Europe. Of the 126 races the 333 SP entered, it emerged victorious in nearly fifty, making it one of the most successful sport prototype cars in Ferrari's history. Čo hľadal Jakub pod posteľou? (a čo všetko sa mu tam prihodilo)
Vyzerá to na pokojný deň v detskej izbe. Jakub sa hrá s vyklápacím autíčkom, v ktorom preváža sklenené guľôčky. No vtom sa stane niečo strašné. A zrazu, verte-neverte, objaví čosi úžasné.
Vinou nečekané tragédie dorazí do města neznámý muž. Přináší svědectví o smrti a nevysvětlitelné zkáze.

In Defence of Populism
'Populist' is now most commonly used as a term of abuse. Populists, we are repeatedly told, are xenophobic ignoramuses offering irrational, emotive solutions to complex problems. But is this tru? rank Furedi argues that this is a self-serving narrative that owes more to the desire of elites to protect their own power and interests than it does to the truth. The widespread disdain expressed towards populism in the media and by many academics is in fact poorly concealed contempt towards the idea of popular sovereignty and democratic decision-making. Populism is not equivalent to any specific ideology, as populist politicians vary greatly in their substantive views, but it is rather a broad disposition towards public life that stresses the value of giving the ordinary citizen a genuine voice in political decision-making. Attacks on 'populism' most commonly reveal the desire of those who run our institutions to keep real authority in the hands of unaccountable elites who veil their power under the guise of 'expertise'. This bracing defence of basic democratic values by one of our most fearless polemicists should be read by anyone who mistakes the complacent assurances of our elite for the wisdom of our betters.
Menopauzaagy
Iványi Orsolya menopauza edukációs aktivista, a Magyar Menopausa Társaság vezetőségi tagja
A Menopauzaagy hiánypótló, teljes szívemből ajánlom mindenkinek.
Naomi Watts színésznő

A New York-i Weill Cornell Orvostudományi Egyetem Alzheimer-megelőzési programjának igazgatójaként indította el úttörő kezdeményezését, amely a női agyat vizsgálja, és azt, hogyan befolyásolják a nemi különbségek az agy öregedését és az Alzheimer-kór kockázatát. A The Times szerint korunk legbefolyásosabb 17 női tudósának egyike. Az ELLE magazin 2022-ben beválasztotta a világ megváltoztatásáért legtöbbet tevő 100 nő közé.

The Make-Believe
From the actor known for Skins and Games of Thrones, a deeply intimate, shockingly honest memoir about acting, fame, mental illness and the struggle to leave a cult-like organisation whose belief in magic shattered Hannah's reality.
In 2017, Hannah Murray was a successful actor whose career had taken her to Hollywood and given her the opportunity to act with A list stars and Oscar-winning directors. But as the daily costs of acting grew, from the degradations of auditions to repeating violent scenes over and over, Hannah found herself searching for something to make her feel better. One day, a reiki healer promises her a new kind of treatment, a kind of magic, and all of a sudden Hannah's life is changed.
Back in London, she becomes increasingly involved with the organisation behind the magic, an organisation whose charismatic leader, promises of secret knowledge, and increasingly complex rituals, are seductive, cult-like - and ultimately destructive, as Hannah finds herself on a week-long course from her friends and family - and her sanity falls apart. Detained in hospital, she struggles to understand the difference between what's real, and what's imagined. The result is a propulsive, shockingly honest, and extraordinarily intimate portrayal of a mind taken over the edge.
From the outer edges of fame, through Hollywood film sets and London parties, Hannah's life has slowly moved from that of a successful starlet to that of a young woman seduced by the magical thinking of an organisation that promises health and happiness beyond her wildest dreams, but her reality becomes far more disturbing than she could ever have imagined.
Shocking, intimate and compulsive, The Make-Believe is an ultimately uplifting and inspiring story of empathy, resilience and the power of belief.
The Kings of Kearny
From the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of Lights Out comes a dark and steamy motorcycle club romance, perfect for fans of Paisley Hope
Jakob Larson is going to be the death of me.
That's what I think every time he strides into my bar. The Kings of Kearny run this small Texas town, and Jakob is their chief enforcer. The Viking, they call him. He's a criminal. As dangerous as he is sexy. The kind of man who makes my inner cavewoman sit up and take notice.
I'm ready to indulge her desires, but just for one night.
Unfortunately, Jakob has other plans. Someone in town is breaking one of the cardinal rules set by the leader of The Kings, and Jakob thinks they're using my grandmother's nursing home to do it. Now I'm neck-deep in trouble with him, and every time I think I've figured out what's really going on, Jakob reveals another piece of the puzzle.
I need to figure out how far I'm willing to go to protect this town. How far I'm willing to go with Jakob. Because if I fall for him, there's no going back. No hope for a peaceful ending. But Jakob is the kind of man who makes me think that peaceful is overrated, and that descending into darkness with him could lead to something even better than a Happily Ever After.
Psychology of Luck: Korean Secrets for Attracting Wealth and Success
Praised as a book that 'brings you luck the moment you open it', this book contains lessons on how to understand - and use - the psychology of luck.
Why are successful people so obsessed with luck?
Because they want to draw things of value to them.
The average person will experience at least a couple of lucky breaks in their lives, but life's successes and failures are dependent on how well you recognize the signs of such luck.
Born into a family with a gift of intuitive foresight and raised in Korean traditions of numerology, astrology and shamanism, Min Ji Yoo has developed deep insights into how people attract luck, money and the things they value to themselves. In The Psychology of Luck, Min Ji Yoo focuses on how successful people harness their luck to attract success - and how we can too.
Drawing on her years working with celebrities, business tycoons, politicians, and everyday people, Ji Yoo explains that the capacity to take advantage of lucky opportunities determines one's success. In this book, she reveals the surprising truths that you can enrich your life in many ways, simply by changing your attitude and psychological approach to luck.
Each chapter offers life lessons about luck and abundance - as well as approaches that quiet those anxieties that weigh us down. From 'live according to your instincts' to 'the more grace you give, the less pain you receive', Min Ji Yoo demonstrates that self-knowledge, worldly wisdom and luck are essential to becoming rich - whether measured in money, love, health or spiritual terms.
Men of a Certain Age
From Jeff Beck to Ray Davies, Jon Bon Jovi to Kevin Ayers, Kate Mossman has long fostered an interest in male musicians of a certain age.
Why is it that when I meet them, I feel something ignite inside me? What is this strange connection - to feel so excited, yet so at ease? And how is it that in the presence of a wrinkly rock star twice my age, I sometimes feel like I'm meeting . . . me?
Featuring nineteen long-form profiles lovingly constructed for The Word magazine and the New Statesman, Men of a Certain Age chronicles the lives of some of the biggest rock stars of our time, including Brian May, Gene Simmons, Terence Trent D'Arby, Johnny Rotten and Nick Cave.
The book is a meditation on the powerful archetype of the ageing rock star, but it is also a personal story - of music and obsession, and of the deep unconscious projections at play in our relationships with the famous people who most capture our hearts. As Kate travels 5,000 miles to try and find Glen Campbell, and to the depths of the Cornish countryside for a rendezvous with Roger Taylor, will she finally unravel the roots of her obsession with the elder statesmen of rock?
The Kennedys and the Windsors
The story of two iconic dynasties-the Kennedys and the Windsors-whose glamour and ambition defined an era. Reveals never-before examined stories about Queen Elizabeth, King Charles, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Princess Diana, Prince Harry, JFK, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Robert Kennedy Jr., and many others.
For fans of The Crown and Disney+ new Ryan Murphy limited series Love Story.
For nearly a century, two families have captured the world's collective imagination: the Windsors and the Kennedys. Much has been written about their individual trysts, tragedies, and triumphs over the years, but no one has examined their intertwined legacies. Until now.
The Kennedys and the Windsors unearths the shared story of these two families, drawing out some startling parallels between them: the style icons Princess Diana and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who both tragically died young, the frustrated "second sisters" Princess Margaret and Lee Radziwill, the scandal-plagued next generation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the man formerly known as Prince Andrew, and the current generation's struggles to figure out what a monarchy - actual or imagined - means in the twenty-first century.
From Queen Elizabeth's coronation to President Kennedy's historic London visit, JFK Jr.'s shocking death to Prince Harry's decisive break with his family, Caroline Hallemann traces the key moments in the lives of these dynasties through a fresh and fascinating lens, showing how they have intersected over the generations in ways that not only shaped their images, but history itself.
