Behind Beatlemania Privileged access to the Fab Four In early 1964, photographer Harry Benson received a call from the photo editor of London's Daily Express, who asked him to cover The Beatles' trip to Paris. It was the beginning of a career-defining relationship, which would both make Benson's name and produce some of the most intimate photographs ever taken of The Beatles. In Paris, Benson captured the Fab Four in the midst of a pillow fight at the George V Hotel, an icnoic image which came to epitomize the spirit of the Mancunian quartet--Benson himself has called it the best shot of his career. Later that year, he followed the group on the road for their debut US tour, documenting their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, their surprising encounter with Cassius Clay, and the hysteria of New York Beatlemania. Benson also received privileged access to photograph George Harrison's honeymoon in Barbados. This book collects the best of Benson's luminous black and white Beatles portfolio, alongside quotes and newspaper clippings from the period, and an introduction by the photographer himself, adding personal testimony to these era-defining images.

This book gathers all of Little Nemo's colorful airship adventures in Slumberland, totaling 69 installments, first published between January 1910 and April 1911. Brimming with sky-high imagination, these airship adventures represent some of the most ambitious artwork and exciting tales of McCay's revolutionary comic and of his much-loved dream voyager. The installments see Nemo flying to the moon, to Mars, and on a triumphant tour of major sights and metropolises across the East Coast of America and Canada and beyond, including Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, and New York City. An introductory essay from art historian Alexander Braun contextualizes these airship episodes within the broader Little Nemo series as well as McCay'' ambitious and exceptionally influential career. Until around 1890, he was renowned for work in black and white only. These "Noirs" in charcoal drawing or lithograph were composed not only of a somber palette, but also by fantastic, frightening figures. Gradually, the artist began to introduce colored pastel, and with it, new and lighter motifs. Flowers became a recurring preoccupation. Where symbols of melancholy once stood, horses and fluttering butterflies entered the scene. While this latter-day lyricism and harmony contrasted sharply with Redon's earlier mood of melancholy, his guiding principle remained to "place the visible at the service of the invisible." With his dream-like imagery, sumptuous textures, and suggestive use of color, Redon sought to create a pictorial equivalent to his own psyche. From foreboding to lightness, he was above all an artist of states of mind, with considerable influence on later Post-Impressionism.
