A Két írás az analitikus pszichológiáról alapvető fontosságú mű, melyet az egyik legjobb bevezető olvasmánynak tartanak Jung munkásságához, és egyaránt ajánlott jungiánus és nem jungiánus olvasóink számára. A jungi fogalomrendszer az orvosi praxison túlmenően a szellemi, lelki vizsgálódás széles körében jelenik meg; ez a lényegre törő, csillogó logikájú okfejtés a modern humán ismeretvilág alapművei közé sorolható.
Célja a tudattalan természetének és pszichológiájának nagy ívű feltérképezése, háttér-információk és bevezetés nyújtása a későbbi vizsgálódásokhoz. Történetileg Jung és Freud szoros együttműködésének végét jelzi, és kiolvasható belőle az a szándék, hogy Jung egységes keretbe foglalja Freud és Adler munkásságát. A kötet két esszét tartalmaz, melyek a jungi pszichológia leglényegesebb nézetein alapulnak.
A függelékben megtaláljuk az írások eredeti változatát is. Mindkettőt a szerző halála után fedezték fel, és nagy segítséget nyújthatnak a jungi gondolkodás evolúciójának feltárásában.
Az elmebetegségek pszichogenezise
A magyar nyelven eddig még nem publikált kötet Jung munkásságának hazánkban alig ismert oldalát mutatja be. A kilenc írás elsősorban a tudattalan és a skizofrénia (akkor elnevezéssel: dementia praecox) viszonyát tárgyalja. Központi témájuk a szerző azon meggyőződése, hogy a skizofrén betegek kezelésében döntő fontosságú a pszichológiai aspektus. Eszerint fontos, hogy az elsőre érthetetlennek tűnő élményvilágot és tüneteket a terapeuta elfogadással, megértéssel és akár egyfajta értelemadással közelítse meg. Bár a Jung által kidolgozott konkrét módszert sokan vitatják, szemlélete azonban úttörő jelentőségű a pszichiátria és pszichológia történetében.
Fontos adalék továbbá, hogy a Jung és Freud között kibontakozó levelezés a kötet első írása, az 1906-os A dementia praecox pszichológiájáról: egy kísérlet kapcsán kezdődött el. A könyv jelentőségét tovább növeli, hogy betekintést nyújt abba, a skizofrénia vizsgálatán keresztül hogyan jutott el Jung életművének oly fontos mérföldköveihez, mint a kollektív tudattalan és az archetípusok felfedezése.

Rukopis slavné Červené knihy vázaný v kůži pojmenovaný autorem původně Liber Novus ležel od smrti C. G. Junga v trezoru jedné švýcarské banky. Jungova rodina považovala zápisky za příliš intimní a fantastické, bála se kompromitace a odmítala jakékoli návrhy na zveřejnění. Teprve v roce 2000 se britskému historikovi lékařství Sonu Shamdasanimu podařilo domluvit se s dědici pořízení faksimile původního Jungova rukopisu a jeho vydání. Od prvního vydání v angličtině, němčině a češtině kniha zaznamenala celosvětový úspěch a řadu vydání v mnoha jazycích.
