Základem knihy je slavná Jungova práce Moderní mýtus. O věcech, které jsou vídány na nebi z roku 1958 (UFO jako pověst, UFO ve snech, UFO v malířství …). Další část tvoří Jungova vybraná korespondence s tematikou UFO. Jung se fenoménu UFO věnoval řadu let: při svých zkoumáních nezjišťoval pravost či falešnost zpráv o létajících talířích, ale snažil se pochopit jejich psychologický a mytický význam, jejich kolektivní smysl a současně postihnout hlavní problémy planetárního lidstva naší epochy - prohlubující se rozštěpení homosféry, s tím vzrůstající potřebu celosti a sjednocení, nové požadavky na růst vědomí a zohlednění étosu a mravnosti… Objevil přitom řadu paralelních obrazů a úkazů v mytologii a historických zprávách a došel k závěru, že UFO představují symboly bytostného Já.
