Cestou je však přepadne strašlivý pirát Brake na svém korábu Hrůzný!

Jarní pohoda ve vesnici, kterou dobře známe, je narušena ohlášením oficiální návštěvy náčelníka sousední vesnice Nemoralixe. Ten přináší kotlík plný peněz, který chce ukrýt před římskými výběrčími daní. Kotlík je ovšem třeba svěřit do úschovy někomu spolehlivému. A kdo jiný by se na tento úkol hodil lépe než Asterix?

Kleopatra, královna Egypta, se rozhodne, po hádce s Césarem, postavit velkolepý palác, aby dokázala, že Egypťané jsou dobří stavitelé. Stavbou pověří Neuminise, nepříliš schopného architekta. Má však jednu výhodu, jeho přítelem je druid z daleké země, ovládající různé kouzla. A kouzla jsou přesně to, co je potřeba na postavení velkolepého paláce do tří měsíců. Vydá se tedy za svým galským přítelem, Panoramixem. Ten pozvání neodmítá, a v doprovodu Asterixe a Obelixe se vydává na pomoc Neuiminisovi proti úkladům Césarovým, konkurence a koneckonců i hrdosti samotné Kleopatry.

Galská vesnice je na nohou: svou návštěvou je poctil Twynsdalec, fialový človíček z vesmíru, který přiletěl v obrovské kouli plné zázraků mimozemské techniky. Vzápětí se objeví další kosmická loď s mimozemšťany. Tentokrát jsou to však pokrytečtí Nagmové, kteří touží po Panoramixově lektvaru…

V Římě panuje zvyk udělovat legionářům po odsloužení dvaceti let služby pozemky provinciích. Jeden z legionářů, věčný ožrala a problémista, dostane poněkud sporný dárek - malou galskou osadu obkolesenou římskými tábory (která Cézarovi samozřejmě tak docela nepatří...). Pozemek rychle změní majitele v nedaleké hospodě, kde ho zmíněný voják vymění s hospodským za misku jídla a víno. Nový majitel pak nadšeně vyráží na sever Galie, kde ho ovšem čeká nemilé překvapení.

Asterix a jeho věrný přítel Obelix slaví letos na podzim 50. narozeniny. A právě u příležitosti jejich kulatin vychází 22. října po celém světě nové album, v kterém najdete jako obvykle plno kresleného i psaného humoru.
