Viktor Preiss
Viktora Preisse známe jako charismatického, jemného, elegantního a inteligentního herce s nezaměnitelným šarmem a kouzlem osobnosti. Většina z nás především z obrazovky veřejnoprávní televize, kde ztvárnil bezpočet rolí v inscenacích a seriálech.
V devětašedesáti letech mu zaslouženě patří označení pan herec s velkým „P“ a mistr hereckého řemesla s velkým „M“.
A taky jinou potřebu regenerace. A věřte, nebylo to snadné.“
Věříme, protože Viktor Preiss jako věrný a poctivý služebník múzy Thálie se svému poslání nikdy nezpronevěřil. Pojďte se spolu s námi
A héber ószövetség szövege

Curious Case of Benjamin Butt
Full grown with a long, smoke-coloured beard, requiring the services of a cane and fonder of cigars than warm milk, Benjamin Button is a very curious baby indeed. And, as Benjamin becomes increasingly youthful with the passing years, his family wonders why he persists in the embarrassing folly of living in reverse. In this imaginative fable of ageing and the other stories collected here - including "The Cut-Glass Bowl" in which an ill-meant gift haunts a family's misfortunes, "The Four Fists" where a man's life shaped by a series of punches to his face, and the revelry, mobs and anguish of "May Day" - F. Scott Fitzgerald displays his unmatched gift as a writer of short stories.

Lessons for Living
Profound essays that cut through the messiness of life to help you get the good from the bad—by famed therapist Phil Stutz, the New York Times bestselling co-author of The Tools and subject of the Netflix documentary Stutz.
“Is there another way? Can you live life with its conflicts, uncertainties, and disappointments and somehow feel good about yourself? You can. But it requires a completely new orientation.”
There are issues, and there are issues—love, loss, success, failure, hope, regret, life, death. How can we even begin to think clearly about dilemmas so universally confounding? Phil Stutz has spent his life pondering the big challenges that we all face, and this profound book puts the conclusions he’s reached at your fingertips.
Stutz has been writing these remarkably insightful short essays since the late 1990s, which are collected here for the first time, along with new insights specific to the unique challenges of today. Each one will change the way you think, but taken all together, this book becomes something far more than the sum of its parts: a compendium of human experience and knowledge that will reframe your worldview. There are hard truths here—the acknowledgment that life is full of pain and not a single one of us is special enough to escape it—but we need to understand and accept them in order to realize our full potential.
While The Tools explains the general concepts and five specific practices that Stutz employs in treatment, Lessons for Living addresses real-world circumstances, such as the needs of children, rising above envy, defeating your bad habits, the positive side of anger, and facing insecurities, offering a new way to think about life itself.

Inspiring everyone from radical activists to Beyoncé Knowles, Rebecca Solnit's essay 'Men Explain Things to Me' has become a touchstone of the feminist movement and established her as one of the leading thinkers of our time. Here it is collected along with the best of Solnit's feminist writings.
From French sex scandals to the nuclear family, rape culture to mansplaining, Virginia Woolf to colonialism, these essays are a fierce and incisive exploration of the issues that a patriarchal culture will not necessarily acknowledge as 'issues' at all. With grace, wit and energy, and in the most exquisite and inviting of prose, Rebecca Solnit proves herself a vital leading figure of the feminist movement and a radical, humane thinker.

The Common Reader
HarperCollins is proud to present its incredible range of best-loved, essential classics.
The only advice, indeed, that one person can give another about reading is to take no advice, to follow your own instincts, to use your own reason, to come to your own conclusions.
In her second volume of essays, Virginia Woolf delves deeper into the delights of reading. Here, she explores the novels of Thomas Hardy and Daniel Defoe, and recounts the fascinating lives of Christina Rossetti and Mary Wollstonecraft. In ‘ How Should One Read a Book?’ she offers sage advice for the common reader, and sheds light on the lessons and pleasures literature can provide.
Published in 1932, The Common Reader: Second Series is a wise and illuminating companion collection to her 1925 First Series. Woolf’s enduring appeal and ideas continue to resonate with readers in the twenty-first century.

The Last Days of the Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman Empire had been one of the major facts in European history since the Middle Ages. Stretching from the Adriatic to the Indian Ocean, the Empire was both a great political entity and a religious one, with the Sultan ruling over the Holy Sites and, as Caliph, the successor to Mohammed.
Yet the Empire's fateful decision to support Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1914 doomed it to disaster, breaking it up into a series of European colonies and what emerged as an independent Saudi Arabia.
Ryan Gingeras's superb new book explains how these epochal events came about and shows how much we still live in the shadow of decisions taken so long ago. Would all of the Empire fall to marauding Allied armies, or could something be saved? In such an ethnically and religiously entangled region, what would be the price paid to create a cohesive and independent new state? The story of the creation of modern Turkey is an extraordinary, bitter epic, brilliantly told here.

A férfi rég halottnak hitt gyilkosait látja a kórház folyosóján, sőt a halott kedves is megjelenik, mintha a sírból kelt volna ki. Az orvosok szerint Susan csak képzelődik, hallucinál. Ám a rémlátomások egyre valóságosabbak, és egyre erőszakosabban fenyegetik a nőt. Mi történik, mi történt valójában?...

African Signs
Throughout Africa, signs above shops along the road, vehicles and walls contain colorful painted advertising and art, designed to attract the attention of passers by and potential customers. Hairdressers, restaurants, garages, butchers, tailors--many such shops began with nothing more than a prominent ad on a sign and grew into a business. The hand-painted sign is a mostly-unheralded form of African art and local culture. These advertisements sprang up in the ‘40s and ‘50s, painted on plywood, metal, hardboard and cement walls. These are “real live” works of art executed by local African craftsmen for consumption by their African customers. Now seen mostly in smaller towns and villages, they are the physical indication of commerce between small businesses and the expression of local artistic sensibilities.African Signs pays homage to this art form. While versions of these signs produced strictly for the export art market can now be found, the authors have gathered here photos taken on location in West Africa, supplemented with only a few from Dutch and American collections. These photos offer an exceptional gateway into contemporary Africa and show that the art of hand-painted signs is still very much alive.

Novels, Tales, Journeys
The archetypal Romantic, killed in a duel in 1837 at the age of 37, Alexander Pushkin was effectively the founder of modern Russian literature. Though famous as a poet, he was equally at home in prose, and this volume includes all his short fiction, as well as unfinished sketches and fragments. Here of course are his masterpieces, 'The Queen of Spades', Pushkin's ironic take on both the supernatural and the society tale, the terse, deadpan Tales of Belkin, often humorous yet imbued with deep understanding of human nature, and his unsurpassable novella, The Captain's Daughter, which, informed by his meticulous research into the Pugachev Rebellion against Catherine the Great, is a perfect combination of folk epic, historical narrative and romance.
Other works include the richly comic 'A History of the Village of Goriukhino', the imaginative historical fiction 'The Moor of Peter the Great' (based on the life of the author's own great-grandfather. Pushkin was particularly proud of his African ancestry), and 'Journey to Arzrum', the fascinating autobiographical account of his (unauthorized, and greatly displeasing to the Tsar) travels in the Caucasus at the time of the 1828-9 Russo-Turkish war.

Nero Dolce & Gabbana
Black, the most powerful and overwhelming color, is the symbol of Dolce&Gabbana and encapsulates opposite feelings that attract: sensuality and rigor, tragedy and love.
But Dolce&Gabbana goes beyond the sartorial perfection of their clothes: it is first and foremost a way of being, questioning, and thinking.
In this large format book, printed in black and white, the great masters of Italian and international reportage, who have portrayed Sicily since the 1950s, are contrasted with the most important fashion photographers, who have interpreted Dolce&Gabbana Black from behind their lenses since the 1980s. These include Sergio Larrain, Bruno Barbey, Ellen von Unwerth, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Mert&Marcus, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindberg, Paolo Roversi, and Giuseppe Tornatore.
In these photographic masterpieces, which range from advertising campaigns to the most iconic editorials and shots never before seen by the general public, published here for the first time, the stars of cinema, entertainment, and the fashion system – featuring Monica Bellucci, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna among others – will alternate with suggestive portraits of ordinary people, in a constant dialog that puts Dolce&Gabbana Black at the center.
