Venus & Adonis (English/Dutch)
At once comic, tragic, and erotic, Venus & Adonis (1593) is a poem by William Shakespeare based on passages from Ovid's Metamorphoses. This new translation by Hafid Bouazza of Shakespeare's text is illustrated by Marlene Dumas, the renowned painter celebrated around the world for her highly charged depictions of the human form.
Through a series of expressive ink washes, Dumas paints new passion into the poem-bodies bleed into one another, lips part in sighs of passion, a flower blooms to life. Desire in all its heady intensity is evocatively washed over the pages. As with Dumas's wider body of work, however, tragedy is not forgotten and is frighteningly played out with equal intensity. The owl, "night's herald," as Shakespeare writes, flies jet black across the sky; a wild boar looms like a shadow over Adonis's suffering, wounded body; black dissolves into gray; and bodies are lost in a sea of ink.
The poem tells the story of Venus, the goddess of love, and her attempts to seduce the hunter Adonis. It is a complex, kaleidoscopic work in which love takes center stage-Venus's lustful yearning for Adonis ripples throughout, each stanza and line tinged with unrequited longing. As Venus declares, "Graze on my lips, and if those hills be dry, / Stray lower, where the pleasant fountains lie." Like Shakespeare before her, Dumas opens up a seemingly unending flow between light and dark, love and death, pleasure and pain.
Dumas's complete suite of thirty-two works on paper is reproduced in this volume, exactingly placed by the artist throughout Shakespeare's text. Copublished by Athenaeum and David Zwirner Books as an English/ Dutch edition, the book is a striking yet beautiful paradox-a marriage of text and image that is as sensual, fleshy, and carnal as it is unnerving and disturbing.

St.Giles Cathedral, Bardejov
The contemporary revival of Bardejov is due to the fact that time seems to have stopped here – the general migration of people in the 20th-21st century, the enlivening of tourism after the post-communist transition and the new Slovakia which recognised the local potential. Bardejov was re-born in the frames of a comprehensive urban reconstruction project. Its beautifully restored historical centre, the inner city surrounded by mediaeval city walls and bastions and the centre with the main square where St. Giles’s Church and the Gothic Town Hall stand have been a part of the World Heritage since 2000. St. Giles’s Church stands in the Northern end of the square – a Gothic church with three naves and an East-West orientation. Its history overarches four major periods. The first monastery church was built by the original Cistercian monks at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. It probably survived the Tatar invasion or was rebuilt after that onslaught abated, because the already mentioned royal charter actually refers to St. Giles’ Church by name. The second period of construction was during the reign of the Anjou monarchs. A royal charter from 1320 which gives a tax holiday to German settlers reveals that ‘Civitas Bardpha’ has a priest and a parish – this cannot be referring to anything other than St. Giles’ Church. A document issued by Lajos the Great in 1352 also mentions the church by name. This document is a licence to hold an annual fair, which is to take place after the feast day (September 1st) of St. Giles, patron saint of the church and the city.

Britt-Marie Was Here
The number 1 European bestseller by the author of New York Times bestseller and international phenomenon A Man Called Ove, Britt-Marie was Here is a funny, poignant and uplifting tale of love, community, and second chances.
For as long as anyone can remember, Britt-Marie has been an acquired taste. It's not that she's judgemental, or fussy, or difficult - she just expects things to be done in a certain way. A cutlery drawer should be arranged in the right order, for example (forks, knives, then spoons). We're not animals, are we?
But behind the passive-aggressive, socially awkward, absurdly pedantic busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams and a warmer heart than anyone around her realizes.
So when Britt-Marie finds herself unemployed, separated from her husband of 20 years, left to fend for herself in the miserable provincial backwater that is Borg - of which the kindest thing one can say is that it has a road going through it - and somehow tasked with running the local football team, she is a little unprepared. But she will learn that life may have more to offer her that she's ever realised, and love might be found in the most unexpected of places.

This book is the first publication on one of the largest and most important private contemporary art collections in the world today, the Rubell Family Collection. Collectors since 1967, the Rubell family (now based in Miami, Florida) today owns some 6,000 works of art, from paintings to sculptures, photography, videos, and installations, by the most significant artists working from the 1970s to the present. The collection reads like a "Who's Who" of contemporary art, and includes works by Andy Warhol, Carl Andre, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, Thomas Struth, Mike Kelley, and Louise Bourgeois, among many, many others. This book is picture-driven, and showcases some 300 reproductions of the most important works in the collection. It is organized neither chronologically nor alphabetically, but is rather intended to convey the experience of visiting the collection, through the successive installations of the collection since it was opened to the public in Miami in 1996. Neither a catalogue nor an art history manual, this book is an astonishing collection of images of contemporary art at its best. It also includes an introduction by collection curator Mark Coetzee, an enlightening interview with the Rubells on the collection and the process of collecting, and a full list of plates. Donald and Mera Rubell are Americans who began collecting art in 1967, a few years after they met. They became serious collectors in 1979 when, together with their children Jason and Jennifer, they acquired a 16-foot drawing by Francesco Clemente, The Creation. Since then, the collection has been a family affair, and every piece is acquired by consensus among the four-member family. The family wealth derives largely from the inheritance of Don's brother, Steve Rubell, co-creator of the legendary Studio 54 club in New York. Today the collection includes a total of over 6,000 works, and keeps on growing. Originally based in New York City, the family moved to Miami in 1993 and entered the hotel industry, restoring and re-opening Art Deco hotels such as the Albion. Their collection was first installed in a New York City warehouse, since 1996 it is housed in a former Drug Enforcement Agency building on 29th Street in Miami. Comprising 40,000 square feet of exhibition space, the exhibition changes every six months, and is open year round to the public. The collection welcomes 22,000 visitors a year, making the old DEA warehouse a must-see for every contemporary art fan visiting Miami. Bill Begert, one of the former curators of the collection, declared that the collection "serves the important movements in contemporary art in the last 30 years, and it's probably one of the most complete surveys in the U.S." The book includes reproductions of works by Carl Andre, Janine Antoni, Matthew Barney, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Bernd &, Hilla Becher, Christian Boltanski, Maurizio Cattelan, Francesco Clemente, Gregory Crewdson, Rineke Dijkstra, Marlene Dumas, Dan Flavin, Gilbert &, George, Robert Gober, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Peter Halley, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Donald Judd, Mike Kelley, William Kentridge, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, Paul McCarthy, Takashi Murakami, Chris Ofili, Raymond Pettibon, Richard Prince, Charles Ray, Thomas Ruff, Anri Sala, David Salle, Wilhelm Sasnal, Cindy Sherman, Gregor Schneider, Haim Steinbach, Thomas Struth, Sarah Sze, Rosemarie Trockel, Luc Tuymans, Andy Warhol, Christopher Wool, Lisa Yuskavage, Zhang Huan, etc.

A Brief History of the Hobbit
This brand new, shorter edition of the critically acclaimed work includes J.R.R. Tolkien’s complete draft manuscript of ‘The Hobbit’, together with notes about its history, and is perfect for readers of all ages wishing to know more about how he came to write his beloved masterpiece.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit is a tale that “grew in the telling”, and many character and story threads present in the published book were completely different when Tolkien first read the story to his young sons as part of their “fireside reads”.
A Brief History of The Hobbit presents that original manuscript version of The Hobbit, and this is accompanied by John D. Rateliff’s lively and informative commentary, which looks at the story behind Tolkien’s tale. As well as recording the numerous changes made both before and after publication, it examines – chapter-by-chapter – why those changes were made and how they reflect Tolkien’s ever-growing concept of Middle-earth.
The original account of where Bilbo meets Gollum and steals the ring from him is reprinted here, as are little-known illustrations and maps that Tolkien produced for his own reference when drafting the story, together with his later attempt to recast The Hobbit into the style of The Lord of the Rings.
This invaluable companion to one of the most treasured stories in English literature offers fascinating new insights to those who have grown up with this enchanting tale, and will delight those who are about to enter Bilbo’s round door for the first time.

High Fashion - The 20th Century Decade by Decade
From the Golden Age of Haute Couture in the 1900s to the lifestyle brands of the 1990s, this book looks, decade-by-decade, at the high fashion of the 20th century. Each chapter examines the significant stylistic changes that occurred in the decade in question, and places these in their cultural and political context. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs and drawings of the clothes and the people who wore them. Alongside the individual chapters, three designers that made their mark on fashion are discussed, as well as three key looks per decade. Many of the designers are household names; some are lesser known. But all these individuals, whether through their designs or their business practices, are exemplars of their age.
