Súvisí s fantasy, hororom a fikciou o superhrdinoch. Sci-fi v literatúre, filme, televízii a iných médiách sa stala populárnou a vplyvnou vo veľkej časti sveta. Nazýva sa tiež „literatúra myšlienok“ a často skúma potenciálne dôsledky vedeckých, sociálnych a technologických inovácií.
Medzi najznámejších autorov sci-fi žánru patrí Isaac Asimov, Octavia E. Butler, Arthur C. Clarke, William Gibson, Herbert Frank, Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, Margaret Atwoodová a Karel Čapek.
Fantasy literatúra sa zaoberá fiktívnymi svetmi, bytosťami a udalosťami Tento žáner obsahuje prvky nadprirodzena, mágie, mýtov, legend a imaginárnych bytostí, ako sú napríklad draci, víly, čarodejníci, orkovia a ďalší.
Fantasy literatúra vytvára bohaté a detailné fiktívne svety, ktoré sa líšia od realistického prostredia.
