Fantasy literatúra sa zaoberá fiktívnymi svetmi, bytosťami a udalosťami Tento žáner obsahuje prvky nadprirodzena, mágie, mýtov, legend a imaginárnych bytostí, ako sú napríklad draci, víly, čarodejníci, orkovia a ďalší.
Fantasy literatúra vytvára bohaté a detailné fiktívne svety, ktoré sa líšia od realistického prostredia.
