Fantasy literatúra vytvára bohaté a detailné fiktívne svety, ktoré sa líšia od realistického prostredia. Príbehy z tohto žánru sa často zameriavajú na hrdinské cesty, dobrodružstvá, boje medzi dobrom a zlom, epické konflikty a príbehy o nadprirodzených schopnostiach a magických predmetoch. Fantasy literatúra má dlhú a bohatú históriu, pričom mnohé jej klasické diela vznikli už v 19. a 20. storočí.
