The Tribe

The Tribe is the epic tale of a family and its history and a family in history. The Carraches are a powerful Sephardic dynasty in the cosmopolitan city of Salonica during the dying days of the Ottoman Empire. After the Greek annexation of the city, they settle in France until, in 1940, the Nazi Occupation sends some into hiding, some into flight and others into camps. In the early 1960s, the survivors and their children confront the family’s past, with long hidden secrets uncovered and deep-seated conflicts exposed, even as the Eichmann trial forces the world at large to confront the full enormity of the Holocaust. The Tribe crosses cultures and continents in its exploration of family, race, nation and empire. As the central characters journey from adolescence through early adulthood to late middle age, they experience first loves, political and sexual awakenings, artistic triumphs, religious pressures, marital struggles, dynastic rivalries, brutal persecution, resilience and liberation, before, helped by their children, they finally achieve a degree of reconciliation both with one another and the city of their birth.

A nők bosszúja

Malo to byť celkom jednoduché, no všetko sa začalo komplikovať.

Now I Surrender

Once I moved like the wind. Now I surrender to you and that is all. The darkly funny and action-packed story of Geronimo and how the American West was 'won' In the contested borderlands between Mexico and the United States, a Mexican woman flees into the desert after a devastating raid on her dead husband’s ranch. Meanwhile, a lieutenant colonel of the fledgling Republic, sent in pursuit of cattle rustlers, will soon discover he’s on the trail of a more dramatic abduction. Decades later, with political ambitions on the line, the American and Mexican militaries try to manoeuvre Geronimo, the most legendary of Apache warriors, into surrender. And in our own day, a family travels through the region in search of a truer version of the past. Now I Surrender is Álvaro Enrigue’s most impassioned novel yet. Part epic, part alt-Western, it weaves past and present, myth and history, into a searing elegy for a way of life that was an incarnation of true liberty – that still sparks in us the thrill of almost unimaginable freedom.

A Mannok

Az 1974-ben született német irodalomtörténész könyve dokumentumokra épülő, különleges családregény, Thomas Mann családjának élet- és kortörténete az 1920-as évek elejétől egészen a huszonegyedik század kezdetéig. Thomas Mann 1905-ben vette feleségül a dúsgazdag müncheni famíliából származó Katia Pringsheimet, és 1919-ig hat gyermeke - három fia és három lánya - született tőle. Tilmann Lahme a legidősebb gyermekek, Erika és Klaus kamaszkorától követi nyomon a családtagok külön-külön is regénybe illően fordulatos, a német történelemmel szorosan összefonódó és sok szempontból tragikus sorsát. Kronologikus rendben, évről évre, a párhuzamos életrajzok módszerével halad.

A tenger asszonyai

„Minden nő, aki a tengerbe merül, koporsót cipel a hátán… Itt, a víz alatti világban nehéz élet terhét hordozzuk.

Hesket: A Norfolk Haunting

Unsettling things are happening in rural Norfolk. At first glance, Hesket is a blink-and-you-miss it village, a seemingly unremarkable place that belies its horrifying history. There are tales of witch trials and death, of a curse that lies dormant in the landscape where the women condemned as witches are buried, and a great flood that long ago washed Old Hesket away.In present-day Hesket, a new development is planned for this woodland. Following various different voices in which the ordinary and the peculiar converge, Hesket: A Norfolk Haunting chronicles a quiet community of hard-working people, each contending with their own losses amidst daily life. To their horror, the sacred grounds of their beloved old woods are earmarked for development. As the work commences, despite village protests, strange and unexplained events begin to occur and the lives of the villagers start to disintegrate. While each of the eight characters has their own story to tell, beautifully and heart-rendingly encapsulated within individual chapters, the narrative connects them in a broader tale of jealousy, love, bereavement and joy from beginning to end.Merging psychological realism and rural terror, Hesket: A Norfolk Haunting is a compelling, uncanny page-turner from debut novelist Sara Bayat.

Ghost Wedding

A poignant story of love and regret, from a master of contemporary Irish fictionAn Irish Times, RTÉ Culture and Big Issue Book of the Year for 2025* 'David Park is one of Ireland's great novelists.' Roddy Doyle, author of The Commitments *For fans of Sebastian Faulks, Donal Ryan and Anne Tyler comes this beautiful novel following two troubled men, separated by nearly a century, bound by the ghosts of their pastWhen George Allenby is put in charge of building a lake in the grounds of an imposing Irish manor house, he intends to do the job as swiftly as possible and return to Belfast. Allenby is still wrestling with his time as an officer during the First World War, burdened by the many things he could have done differently. Almost a century later, Alex and Ellie are preparing for their wedding, sparing no expense to hire a venue overlooking the very lake Allenby built all those years ago. Like Allenby before him, Alex is haunted by decisions he made in the past. Now, with the wedding drawing ever closer, he is at a crossroads. Telling the truth might free him from his guilt; it might also take away everything he cares about, including Ellie. In this masterful portrait of love and betrayal, David Park reveals the many ways the past seeps into the present: destructive, formidable, but also hopeful, in the moments of fragile beauty that remain.

Praise for The Savage Isle'The lost world of the ancient Britons is vividly and memorably recreated' The Times 'There are several dawns in the history of these British Isles, but the dark before each one was never so impenetrable as that which preceded the Roman invasion of AD 43. Michael Arnold has shone a fascinating light on this period, capturing perfectly the anxiety, the high stakes and the conflicting interests of the moment. Josef Mengele eltűnése

A hitleri rezsim bukása után számos háborús bűnösnek sikerült elmenekülnie a felelősségre vonás elől. A vezető beosztású náci tisztviselők, SS-tisztek, tömeggyilkosok és olasz vagy horvát elvbarátaik, szövetségeseik többségének Dél-Amerika nyújtott menedéket. Olivier Guez valós tényekre alapozott regénye az egyik leghírhedtebb háborús bűnös, Josef Mengele, az Auschwitzban "a Halál Angyalaként" emlegetett SS-orvos háború utáni sorsát követi nyomon. A koncentrációs tábor foglyain végzett szörnyű kísérleteiről elhíresült Mengele először a nácikra csodálattal tekintő Perón Argentínájában telepedett le.
