Jedné noci se celý svět změnil. Lidské dějiny se roztříštily a střípky civilizací od pravěku až po vzdálenou budoucnost se znovu složily do chaotické koláže. Do přímého kontaktu se tak dostaly kultury, které předtím oddělovala propast stovek, nebo i tisíců let.
Studentka archeologie Toňa se následující ráno probouzí na chatě v jižních Čechách a zjistí, že zbytek vesnice zmizel. Silnici i domy nahradil hluboký les. A to ještě netuší, že nedaleká středověká zřícenina se proměnila ve tvrz z doby své největší slávy. Ani to, že v jižních Čechách táboří římské legie a po nedalekých pláních se procházejí mamuti, tlupy pralidí a jeden bitevní robot zatoulaný z 23. století… Nemluvě o vzdálené německé tankové rotě z druhé světové války, jejíž velitel se rozhodl přebudovat nový svět k obrazu svému.

Milá čtenářko, vážený čtenáři,
dovol mi, abych krátce vysvětlil, co je tohle vlastně za knihu. Není to čtvrtý díl Propasti času. Není to ani sequel, prequel či jiný quel. A pozor, není to ani nové vydání!
Nejvhodnějším výrazem je asi remake. Propast času (včetně obou pokračování) byla napsána znova, od nuly, a troufám si říct lépe. Proč jsem něco tak zbytečného udělal? Samotný Stephen King říká, že žádná kniha není nikdy dokončena. A já to cítím stejně. Pořád je co vylepšovat, co vyškrtnout, co napsat lépe…
Ale když půjdu do hloubky, tak možná chci, aby po mně zůstalo něco skutečně hodnotného. A i když to nebude nejlepší kniha na světě, alespoň budu mít pocit, že jsem udělal maximum.
Což o původní verzi bohužel říct nemůžu. Ne že by byla vyloženě zlá, ale je třeba si uvědomit, že jsem ji začal psát v létě 2013, čili v okamžiku, kdy od mého vůbec prvního pokusu napsat cosi jako beletrii uběhlo pouhých osmnáct měsíců. Jistě uznáš, že to je sakra málo na to, aby bylo dílo kvalitní a autor vyzrálý.
Pokud není génius. Což nejsem…
Co je na první verzi dobré, je příběh. A ten jsem zachoval. Takže další varování: Pokud jsi četl starou verzi, budeš vědět, co se asi tak bude dít (i když myslím, že tě leccos překvapí).
Co na první verzi dobré není, je styl. Chápej, sice mi bylo 38 let, ale coby autor jsem byl sotva puberťák. A na textu je to znát. Tahle nová verze se stylisticky blíží ke knihám jako Inferium nebo Planeta idiotů, kde, jak si dovolím s lehkou špetkou arogance tvrdit, jsem již trochu uzrál. Také pokročila doba, stejně jako vědecké poznatky. A jelikož jsem houba, která ráda nasává nové informace, spoustu těchto poznatků jsem do knih zakomponoval.
Z textu původní Propasti času zbylo jen několik frází, které se mi povedly už tenkrát, jinak je rukopis zcela nový.
Důrazně nedoporučuji navázat na tento první díl původní Císařovnou a potom Impériem. Staré verze se s těmi novými rozcházejí a na novou Propast času nenavazují, byl by to jenom zmatek a byl bys, čtenáři, zklamaný. Dost možná přímo naštvaný.
Nové verze druhého a třetího dílu budou brzy následovat. Doufám, že si to užiješ.
