Román Vlasty Hochelovej zachytáva osud adoptívneho chlapca Miša, ktorý sa ako dospelý neprávom dostal do španielskeho väzenia. Obvinili ho z ublíženia na zdraví a odpykáva si niekoľkoročný trest. V listoch rodičom, väčšinou adresovaných matke, vykresľuje väzenské pomery, problémy, ktoré tam má, spomína na dávne časy. Z autorského rozprávania, ktoré sa strieda s Mišovými listami, sa postupne dozvedáme, ako problémy s jeho výchovou, ťažkosti, do ktorých sa už v detstve, ale najmä v puberte ustavične zamotával, poznačili život celej rodiny i manželstvo adoptívnych rodičov Kláry a Karola. V popredí je pritom jeho vzťah s matkou.
Pri tvorbe sujetu autorka umne využíva kombináciu Mišových listov z väzenia s dynamickým autorským rozprávaním, plným nekonvenčných dialógov.
