Profesor Arnold Jirásek (1887–1960) vstoupil do širšího povědomí jako lékař, který operoval smrtelně zraněného Jana Opletala, byl však především zakladatelskou osobností naší neurochirurgie a jednou z nejvýraznějších postav české medicíny první poloviny 20. století. Jeho nedokončené vzpomínky doplnili editoři knihy Martin Kučera a Jiří Vacek souborem vybraných Jiráskových fejetonů z balkánských válek a nejzajímavějšími vzpomínkovými příspěvky jeho přátel, žáků a manželky.
