Dying in Toronto
All of Drndic’s award-winning work fluctuates between fact and fiction, and 'Dying in Toronto' gives an account of the author’s first year in Canada as a refugee, in 1995. Jen málo dějinných postav má v historické paměti současné české společnosti tak nejednoznačnou pozici jako František Ladislav Rieger. I přes připomínání jeho osobnosti během význačných jubileí patří spíše k pozapomenutým postavám české historie. Jak je možné, že se někdo, kdo byl ve své době nazýván „vůdcem národa“ a u spoluobčanů se těšil nesmírné oblibě, začal poměrně rychle po své smrti vytrácet z veřejného povědomí? Právě na tuto otázku se pokouší odpovědět Pavel Máša. Autor nejprve sleduje Riegrův vztah k historii, jeho podíl na formování české historické paměti a jeho politiku paměti. Poté se věnuje Riegrově péči o vlastní dějinný obraz a představuje různá média, jejichž prostřednictvím chtěl Rieger formovat „image“ své veřejné činnosti pro současníky i budoucí generace. Pozornost je věnována také tomu, jak na Riegrův narativ reagovala tehdejší společnost. V úplném závěru se autor na základě nově získaných poznatků a dosavadního výzkumu pokouší zamyslet nad tím, do jaké míry staročeský politik svým počínáním dokázal ovlivnit podobu svého místa v historické paměti české společnosti.
Ľudmila Brozmanová-Podobová
Monografická publikácia Ľudmila Brozmanová-Podobová: Kostýmy – spomienky – fakty prináša pohľad na tvorbu umelkyne od roku 1940, keď Ľudmila Brozmanová nastúpila do Slovenského národného divadla ako vedúca kostýmovej výpravy. Stala sa prvou ženou v slovenskom profesionálnom divadle, ktorá sa etablovala ako plnohodnotná kostýmová výtvarníčka a povýšila profesiu na organickú súčasť umeleckej koncepcie inscenácie.
Významná časť publikácie reflektuje jej prelomovú spoluprácu s vizionárskym režisérom Jánom Jamnickým a architektom Emilom Bellušom. Táto trojica vytvorila v slovenskom divadelníctve dovtedy nevídanú modernú estetickú súhru. A prvýkrát sa v slovenskom profesionálnom divadle stal kostým nositeľom hlbšieho psychologického a spoločenského významu postavy.
Monografia zachytáva aj jej formovanie v martinskom intelektuálnom prostredí a prácu pre Slovenské národné múzeum, kde zbierala ľudové kroje. Tento etnografický rozhľad neskôr pretavila do divadelnej praxe, keď ako prvá priniesla na javisko SND autentické slovenské kroje (napr. v inscenácii Škriatok), čím zásadne obohatila scénickú klenotnicu divadla.
Obsah knihy je rozdelený do troch tematických celkov, ktoré prepájajú subjektívne spomienky s historickým výskumom:
Spomienky: Zásadná textová časť pripravená Hanou Cigánovou, ktorá formou „denníka písaného po pamäti“ zachytáva rozprávanie, útržky denníkov a listy jej matky. Spomína dramatické vojnové roky, bombardovanie rafinérie Apollo, Slovenské národné povstanie, rodinné udalosti, ale aj spomienky na prácu v múzeu a divadle.
Kostýmy: Teatrologické štúdie a texty (Zdenka Pašuthová, Iva Mojžišová, Vladimír Štefko, Nadežda Lindovská) odborne analyzujú jej prínos pre slovenské scénické umenie, prácu s historickým detailom, strihmi či materiálom.
Fakty a bohatá obrazová dokumentácia: Súčasťou knihy je rozsiahly vizuálny archív vrátane historických inscenačných fotografií, rodinných albumov a podrobných faktografických poznámok, ktoré dielo ukotvujú v presných historických súradniciach.

Alex, Mike, and Hask return with their second book, ready to tackle everything from rugby highs and lows, to the absurdities of everyday life. As was widely predicted, our first book, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby – Unleashed, did not win a Pulitzer Prize. It did, however, scoop Sports Entertainment Book of the Year at the 2025 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards (and sold quite a lot of copies), so here we are again, back for a sequel. What more have we to say? It’s a fair question. Hask can mine more new material from a trip to the supermarket than most people can from an entire lifetime – and you won’t be surprised to learn that he hasn’t just been hanging around Asda since our last book came out. He recently turned 40, he’s been through much personal turmoil, he’s done an awful lot of DJing – and he’s had a lot of arguments.
