"Szerettem vele dolgozni. Nem volt bennem görcs, drukk a forgatásokon. Úgy éreztem, ha ő rám bíz egy szerepet, akkor képesnek tart az eljátszására. Persze nem akartam neki csalódást okozni szerettem volna látni, hogy elégedett velem. Szerettem volna megszolgálni a bizalmát, és én is a legmesszebbmenőkig bíztam benne: az értékítéletében, az instrukcióiban, az ízlésében, a tudásában, a tapintatában, a szeretetében. Sokat kaptam és tanultam tőle.
Gyerekkoromban az egész család ott ült a tv előtt, amikor leadták az új filmjét. Izgultunk, hogy siker legyen! Akkor azt hittem, természetes, hogy a nézők a rendező miatt néznek egy tv-flmet. Csak később jöttem rá, hogy mekkora szó, hogy az ő neve azt is jelentette a tv előtt ülőknek, hogy parádés szereposztásban láthatják a magyar és a világirodalom remekeinek az eredetihez hű és alázatos adaptációit úgy, hogy a filmek mégis az ő kézjegyét viselték.
Büszke voltam rá és vagyok ma is, amikor a csatornák ennyi év után is, sűrűn játsszák ezeket a filmeket. Elképzelem, ha élne, aggódva nézné az új és új vetítéseket, filmje vajon kiállja-e az idő próbáját, vajon nem lassú-e, vajon lépést tud-e tartani az azóta rohanó világgal?! Élete utolsó éveiben is ezeket a kérdéseket tette fel, ha leadták egy-egy régebbi művét. Mit szólna akkor most, két évtizeddel később? A világ változott, felgyorsult, de a nézők még mindig szívesen nézik a Fekete várost, az Abigélt, a Feleletet, a Csongor és Tündét, az Othello Gyulaházánt és sorolhatnám.

Hermann Göring Stíhací eso 1. světové války
Hermann Göring je spojován především se skutky a zločiny, které spáchal v letech 1933-1945 jako jeden z nejvyšších představitelů třetí říše, avšak jeho činnost za první světové války byla přehlížena. Americký historik Peter Kilduff vytvořil zásadní dílo založené na intenzivním výzkumu Göringových raných vojenských záznamů, včetně jeho vlastních bojových hlášení, souvisejících písemností a tisíců německých a dohodových dokumentů. Jeho kniha je proto důkladnou studií, která jej přibližuje jako vojenské letce a velitele během první světové války, a uvádí zkušenosti formující osobnost muže, jenž si získal světovou pozornost v následující válce. Zápisky ostreľovača
Legendárny ostreľovač Vasilij Grigorievič Zajcev sa narodil v roku 1915 na Urale a od detstva sa učil umeniu loviť v tajge. Najprv pôsobil v Tichomorskom loďstve a v roku 1942 prišiel do Stalingradu ako dobrovoľník. Slúžil v 1047. streleckom pluku 284. streleckej divízie 62. armády. Využil svoje lovecké zručnosti a nadanie a od septembra do decembra zlikvidoval pod nepriateľskou paľbou v troskách horiaceho Stalingradu 225 nemeckých vojakov a dôstojníkov. V Stalingrade sa bojovalo doslova o každý kúsok zeme, o každú budovu a o každú ulicu na život a na smrť a z jeho opisov doslova mrazí. Zajcev sa vydával na lov nepriateľa ako tieň, najradšej sám, neskôr zaúčal, ako prežiť, ďalších. V januári 1943 ho zranila mína a oslepol, čo mu zrejme zachránilo život. Zrak sa mu napokon po ťažkej operácii vrátil. Svoje spomienky na detstvo, dospievanie a vojnové časy opisuje realisticky a zároveň poeticky, s humorom a pozorovateľským talentom. Jeho veta „za Volgou sa pre nás končil svet“ sa stala symbolom ruského odporu proti nepriateľovi a heslom sovietskych vojakov v Stalingrade. Taktika, ktorú vyvinul počas bojov, sa dodnes vyučuje na vojenských školách po svete a podrobne ju opísal aj v dvoch učebniciach pre ostreľovačov. Dožil sa 76 rokov. Zajcevov životný príbeh inšpiroval viacerých filmových režisérov. Jeho pôsobenie v stalingradskom vojnovom pekle stvárnil J. Ozerov vo filme Anjeli smrti (1992) a J. J. Annaud vo filme Nepriateľ pred bránami (2001).
Sametový Herodes
Byl jedním z nejlepších reportérů prvního českého luxusního magazínu o cestování, vzniklého po sametové revoluci z nadšení pár kamarádů. Navštívil přes čtyřicet zemí světa, oženil se se svou studentskou láskou, zrekonstruoval rodinný dům, stal se zástupcem šéfredaktora i otcem dvou dcer. Pak přišel pád. Měl podobu schizofrenie – Sametového Heroda škrtícího plyšovou prackou a nemilosrdně ničícího identitu, sny, plány a naděje. Syrovost výpovědi vybízí ke srovnání s hollywoodským zpracováním příběhu loni zesnulého amerického matematika Johna Forbese Nashe mladšího, držitele Nobelovy ceny za přínos k teorii her, rovněž bojujícího se schizofrenií (film o jeho osudu se jmenuje Čistá duše).

Tato kniha změnila žánr – patří k povinné četbě každého běžce a běžkyně, kteří se alespoň jednou za čas hodlají popasovat s nějakým (nejlépe vyšším) kopcem. Uznávaný autor a běžec se rozhodl, že svět trailrunnerů a skyrunnerů otestuje na vlastní kůži. Potkával se s běžeckými legendami, které absolvovaly nejděsivější závody a běžecké výzvy, účastnil se mnohadenních závodů, v nejzapadlejších koutech Anglie objevoval tvrdé borce, kteří pamatují doby, kdy běh ještě hodně bolel … A vznikl portrét jedné z nejdrsnějších běžeckých disciplín, v níž se střídá extrémní vyčerpání s okamžiky radostného osvícení. Stopy v oblacích jsou kronikou masochistické touhy a obdivuhodné výdrže. Je to lyrická pocta britským horám a lidské vůli.

Román o osudu a láskách české malířky a grafičky Zdenky Braunerové Zdenka Braunerová byla žena energická, bojovná, zároveň však citově křehká a snadno zranitelná, jejíž půvab, osobitost a duchaplnost přitahovaly zájem lidí kolem ní. Po mladé lásce k malíři Chittussimu prožívala vroucí vztah k Juliu Zeyerovi, vášnivě se zamilovala do Viléma Mrštíka, s kterým se těsně před sňatkem rozešla, a duchovně se upnula k F. X. Šaldovi. Vztah s mladým spisovatelem Milošem Martenem se změnil v přátelství; s ním pak byla spojena postava francouzského básníka Paula Claudela, jemuž Braunerová věnovala své přátelství a jenž se – stejně jako slavný sochař Auguste Rodin – stal jejím okouzleným ctitelem. Lina Loos byla první manželkou Adolfa Loose, družkou Egona Friedella a Franze Theodora Csokora a blízkou přítelkyní Petera Altenberga. Pro všechny byla ale zároveň břitkým kritikem a bystrým pozorovatelem. Lina Loos, spisovatelka, herečka a kabaretní umělkyně, je velmi často a nezaslouženě zmiňována pouze v souvislosti s těmito a dalšími významnými muži. Neprávem, jak ukazuje tato kniha. Jedná se totiž o nezastřený a vášnivý pohled na Vídeň první poloviny 20. století, elegantní, chytrý a vtipný.

Generál Karel Lukas
