V roce 1996 získal cenu Kalinga, kterou uděluje UNESCO za popularizaci vědy. Veřejnosti je znám jako autor řady populárních a vzdělávacích knih o vesmíru a zejména jako průvodce televizním seriálem Okna vesmíru dokořán.
