A kettézárt falu
Két időzóna egy faluban. A falu egyik felében, Nagyszelmencen az Európai Unió, Szlovákia. A másik felében, Kisszelmencen Ukrajna. Itt a kijivi idő a hivatalos, ott a közép-európai. De a kisszelmenciek is a közép-európai szerint élnek.
Az első világháború végéig az Ung vármegyei Nagyszelmenc–Kisszelmenc ikerfalu Magyarország szerves része volt. A Párizs környéki békeszerződésekkel Csehszlovákiához került. 1938–1944 között újra Magyarországhoz tartozott. Majd a Szovjetunió nyugatra tolta a határait, bekebelezte Kisszelmencet is, és átláthatatlan vasfüggönyt húzott az ikerfalu két része közé. E két nincsország öröksége az ikerfaluban a mai schengeni határ, pontosan Sztálin vasfüggönyének nyomvonalán.
A kettézárt falu című dokumentumregény azt mondja el: a határ hogyan választott el gyereket a szüleitől, menyasszonyt a vőlegénytől, barátokat, haragosokat... Hívőket a templomtól, iskolásokat az iskolától – temetőt a holtaktól... Hogyan vitték a civil magyarokat hadifogolyként a gulágra, hogyan üldözték az egyházakat, a papokat... Az ikerfalu egyik felében elkezdődött történetek a túloldalon folytatódnak: hűségről és hűtlenségről, állhatatosságról és árulásról, kitartásról és föladásról beszélnek.
A szerző hosszú évek munkájával illesztette össze a Szelmenc-kirakós darabjait: a huszadik század, az ezredforduló képét, amelyen láthatjuk, hogy a nagyeszmék mennyit érnek földközelben. Jelen monográfia a millennium időszakát idézi fel: 1896-ban, a honfoglalás ezredik évfordulóján a magyar állam hét, nagyszabású emlékművet emelt a vidéki Magyarországon. Az emlékművek Dévénytől Brassóig, Munkácstól Pusztaszerig az egységes magyar állam eszméjét hirdették. Cave Art
Deep underground, hidden from view, some of humanity's earliest artistic endeavours have lain buried for thousands of years. The most ancient artworks were portable objects, left on cave floors. Shell beads signal that 100,000 years ago humans had developed a sense of self and a desire to beautify the body; ostrich eggshells incised with curious geometric patterns hint at how communities used art, through the power of symbols, to communicate ways of doing things and bind people together. In time, people came to adorn cave walls with symbols, some abstract, others vivid arrangements of animals and humans. Preklad publikácie významného uhorského historika 19. storočia, Gustáva Wenzela o bojoch príslušníkov rodu Dóczyovcov s hornouhorskými banskými mestami, patrí ku klasickým dielam historiografie zaoberajúcej sa dejinami územia dnešného Slovenska.
Publikácia vyšla ešte roku 1876, v maďarskom a latinskom jazyku a dnes je prakticky nedostupná. Je to pritom dielo, ktoré v celkovom rozsahu doteraz nebolo prekonané, od jeho vydania vyšlo len niekoľko málo štúdií, čiastočne sa dotýkajúcich problematiky Dóczyovcov alebo spomenutých hradov v ich vlastníctve.

Měl zásadní vliv na zaměstnanost v regionu, a to především v období hospodářské krize. Důležitou roli hrál klášter v oblasti charitativní, sociální a kulturní. Činný byl též na poli vzdělávání, osvěty a kultury. Jako poslední v řadě, nikoli významem, zmiňme péči pastorační či duchovenskou. Klášter, jehož řeholníci sloužili mše, křtili, zpovídali, oddávali a pohřbívali, se stal nedílnou součástí každodenního i svátečního života všech obyvatel obce a celého okolí.

Iunianus Iustinus, rímsky spisovateľ, z ktorého života síce nie je nič známe, no jeho pričinením sa zachovalo významné historické dielo Pompeia Troga, resp. jeho podstatná časť. Iustinus sa totiž podujal spracovať a skrátiť rozsiahlejšie Trogove dejiny, ktoré sa nezachovali okrem úvodov k nim, napísaných neznámym autorom. Iustinov Výťah z Filippských dejín Pompeia Troga sa však zachoval úplný a podáva nám veľmi zaujímavý pohľad na históriu národov celého sveta prostredníctvom rímskych dejepiscov.
Prvá časť Výťahu z Filippských dejín, uvedená v tejto publikácii, sa zaoberá najstaršími ríšami Orientu, históriou Atén, grécko-perzskými vojnami, vojnami medzi Grékmi, históriou Sicílie a Makedónie. Rozsiahly priestor venuje autor nástupu moci Makedóncov, životu a skutkom Filippa II. Makedónskeho a jeho syna Alexandra Veľkého a tiež rozdeleniu Alexandrovej ríše medzi jeho následníkov a vojnám medzi nimi. Výťah z Filippských dejín Pompeia Troga XVII-XLIV
Trogus patrí medzi rímskych spisovateľov, o ktorých je známych len málo údajov. Svoj pôvod si odvodzoval z galských predkov, žijúcich v okolí rieky Rodanus, a ako sám uvádza, tí boli spriaznení s Rimanmi a oddane im slúžili. Vo svojich dejinách však podáva obraz o histórii rôznych krajín a národov sveta nezaujate a skutkami Rimanov sa zaoberá len okrajovo a v súvislostiach s dejinami iných národov. Vďaka Iustinovmu výťahu sa podstatná časť Trogových Filippských dejín zachovala, pričom rozsah pôvodného spisu dokladajú zachované úvody k jeho dielu. Trogus dejiny národov usporiadal systematicky od najstarších ríš Orientu až po svoju súčasnosť.
Druhá časť Výťahu z Filippských dejín, uvedená v tejto publikácii, sa zaoberá poslednou vojnou Alexandrových nástupcov, životom a skutkami Epirčana Pyrrha, históriou a vojnami Kartágincov, udalosťami na Sicílii a v Itálii, históriou a zmenami nástupníctva moci vo všetkých krajoch helenistického sveta s postupným preberaním zvrchovanej moci Rimanmi a tiež životom a skutkami Mithridata Veľkého, ktorému autor venuje značný priestor. Late Victorian Holocausts
Examining a series of El Nino-induced droughts and the famines that they spawned around the globe in the last third of the 19th century, Mike Davis discloses the intimate, baleful relationship between imperial arrogance and natural incident that combined to produce some of the worst tragedies in human history. Late Victorian Holocausts focuses on three zones of drought and subsequent famine: India, Northern China; and Northeastern Brazil. All were affected by the same global climatic factors that caused massive crop failures, and all experienced brutal famines that decimated local populations. But the effects of drought were magnified in each case because of singularly destructive policies promulgated by different ruling elites. Davis argues that the seeds of underdevelopment in what later became known as the Third World were sown in this era of High Imperialism, as the price for capitalist modernization was paid in the currency of millions of peasants' lives.

Különösen, mivel egy olyan személyiségről van szó, aki életének különböző epizódjai miatt egyaránt figyelemre méltó a magyar mellett a szlovák, a lengyel, az ukrán, a horvát és a bosnyák történelem iránt érdeklődő közönség számára is.
