Zošit Milana Demka prináša básne rozdelené do štyroch častí. Prvá opatrne preskúmava prostredie domova a najbližších vzťahov zavinutých do neodvratne plynúceho času. Pavel Bakajsa vo svojich básňach zdanlivo chladný matematický priestor oduševňuje a vyjadruje ho úspornými veršami, v ktorých sa odráža celé univerzum. (Mária Ferenčuhová)

Arriving Barefooted

In this bilingual collection, Arriving Barefooted—Two Rough Journeys/Glanio’n Droednoeth—Dwy Daith Arw, Gwen Williams traces the journey of the Welsh settlers in Patagonia and a journey in their footsteps. The first settlers arrived at Bahia Nueva in an old tea schooner, The Mimosa, in 1865. They had few farming or engineering skills and met with immediate hardship, sleeping in caves, shooting birds for food — metaphorically barefooted. But they were escaping oppression in their homeland, much like many modern-day migrants, and the determination to preserve their language and culture drove them on. In 2015, the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Y Wladfa, the poet travelled to Patagonia, welcomed by the descendants of the settlers. She carried a sketchbook and journal, discovering that her modern group of Welsh travellers were much less stoical than those first settlers, despite, or perhaps, because of modern advantages. The bilingual poems — they had to be in Welsh as well as English and would have been in Spanish too if Williams could have managed it — convey the essence of Chubut, its characters and rugged nature. Ranging from a Celtic festival on the banks of Afon Fawr to the noisy visitors showing off, Gogs and Hwntws (North and South Walians) competing to impress with their singing, these poems, by turns moving and filled with wit and warmth, immerse us in a unique place and culture. And along the way we might even meet the shy Patagonian Killer Bunny.

Sklená huta

Rôzne miesta rozprávajú rôzne príbehy, stačí rozhrnúť zem a čítať.

The Summer We Crossed Europe in the Rain

Memorably introduced by Ishiguro himself, The Summer We crossed Europe in the Rain collects the sixteen song lyrics he has written since 2007 for world-renowned American singer, Stacey Kent, which were set to music by her partner Jim Tomlinson. An exquisite coming together of the literary and musical worlds, the lyrics are infused with a sense of yearning, melancholy, love, and the romance of travel and liminal spaces. Further exploring the notion of collaboration and interpretation, the collection is illustrated by the acclaimed Italian artist, Bianca Bagnarelli whose work perfectly captures the atmosphere and sensibility of the songs.

Devil's Piece

In Devil’s Piece loss, absence, mental illness and pain are examined with a lens so clear and lucid, the heart aches. Yet in that clarity, there is a savouring of the smallest things and a permeability to love and life that creates songs of what might have been dirges. There is no dressing up of reality, no pretence that everything is well, but in these fearless, precise poems there is transformation. An exquisite collection.

Prague in Thaw / Praha za času plujících ker

Básnická sbírka profesora Rio Preisnera Prague in Thaw (Praha za časů plujících ker) vyšla poprvé česky roku 1992 v nakladatelství Pražská imaginace.

The Planets

From Marginalian Editions comes a gorgeous reissue of celebrated poet and naturalist Diane Ackerman’s debut: a soaring ode to our solar system, planet to planet, blending science and imagination, astronomy and cosmology, as well as fantasy, satire, myth, and reflection. First published in 1973, The Planets: A Cosmic Pastoral introduced not only a splendid new poet but a whole new adventure in poetry. With bravura style, unbridled imagination, and a connoisseur's eye for precise scientific detail, Diane Ackerman’s debut brought us an unforgettable ode to each planet in our solar system, not to mention the moon, the comet Kohoutek, and the asteroid belt, as well as strange voyages to the stars, the bottom of the sea, through the human body, and into the mind. Diane Ackerman herself says: “I’ve always been baffled by people who write about nature only in terms of, say, junipers and cornfields, eschewing all things so-called ‘scientific,’ as if science were, per se, the spoil-sport of feeling. So wonderless a view of nature really doesn’t appeal to me.” The Planets is a rare fusion of art and science—one of the great poetic works of cosmic imagination.

I Have a Home, There Is a We

I Have a Home, There Is a We, whose original Swahili edition was in 2015 the first book of poetry to win the Safal-Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature, brings the acclaimed verse of prolific Zanzibari poet, journalist, and cultural changemaker Mohammed Khelef Ghassani to English-language readers for the first time. The book explores the poet's life as a migrant in Germany: linguistic and cultural alienation, nostalgia, and longing for his homeland on the island of Pemba. These poems form a catalog of sorrow and love addressed to the family he left behind, to the children whose roots "he tore forcefully from the ground" in hopes of offering them a better life, and above all to the country he calls home, using the deeply resonant Swahili term "kwetu"—our place—named over and over again as Zanzibar. Utilizing the structured verse forms of traditional Swahili prosody, the collection is modern, unique, and innovative, speaking to a global diasporic experience even as it draws deeply on an idiom specific to the poet's tiny island home. A ripple of political defiance suffuses the poems as Ghassani positions himself against layered forms of oppression and marginalization both at home and abroad in this synthesis of love song, lamentation, and freedom declaration.

Even Time Bleeds

A vibrant and compelling bilingual edition of poems by the acclaimed Mexican writer Jeanette Lozano Clariond, translated by Pulitzer Prize–winner Forrest GanderEven Time Bleeds is a revelatory selection of the work of Jeannette Lozano Clariond, a major contemporary Mexican poet known for her sensuous lyricism and philosophical gravity. Translated and introduced by Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Forrest Gander, this volume gathers poems from across Clariond’s career and presents the English translations and the original Spanish texts on facing pages. Whether writing about science or Romanticism, childhood or the Chihuahua Desert, ancient Mexican myths or the pandemic of Mexican femicides, Clariond displays a complex self-consciousness that captures much about contemporary identity in Mexico and beyond. Born in 1949 into a Lebanese family that emigrated to Mexico, Clariond has spent much of her life traveling between Mexico, the United States, and Spain, and she writes about varieties of exile and the fearsome complexity of the US–Mexican border with rare insight. Even rarer: she gives voice to her own interiority in a way that is accessible and piercing, as though her true country is inside of each reader.

Living in History

Challenging received ideas about the British Poetry Revival, Luke Roberts presents a new account of experimental poetry and literary activism. Drawing on a wide range of contexts and traditions, Living in History begins by examining the legacies of empire and exile in the work of Kamau Brathwaite, J. H. Prynne, and poets associated with the Communist Party and the African National Congress. It then focuses on the work of Linton Kwesi Johnson, Denise Riley, Anna Mendelssohn and others, in the development of liberation struggles around gender, race and sexuality across the 1970s. Tracking the ambivalence between poetic ambition and political commitment, and how one sometimes interferes with the other, Luke Roberts troubles the exclusions of ‘British Poetry’ as a category and tests the claims made on behalf avant-garde and experimental poetics against the historical record. Bringing together both major and neglected authorships and offering extended close readings, fresh archival research and new contextual evidence, Living in History is an ambitious and exciting intervention in the field.

Collected Poems and Other Verse

''sense too definite cancels yourindistinct literature''Stéphane Mallarmé was the most radically innovative of nineteenth-century poets. His writings, with their richly sensuous texture and air of slyly intangible mystery, perplexed or outraged many early readers; yet no writer has more profoundly influenced the course of modern poetry - in English as well as in French. In both form and content, his poems created new ways of conveying existential doubt, fragmentation, and discontinuity. This is the fullest collection of Mallarmé''s poetry ever published in English, and the only edition in any language that presents his Poésies in the last arrangement known to have been approved by the author. Apart from verse, it includes all the prose poems and the unique, unclassifiable Un Coup de dés... (A Dice Throw...). The lucid, wide-ranging introduction and invaluable notes help an understanding of this astonishing poet''s work. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World''s Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford''s commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Nekromantik
