D'Hancarville. The Complete Collection of Antiquities from the Cabinet of Sir William Hamilton
Antiquarian, archaeologist, vulcanologist, and envoy to the British Embassy in Naples, Sir William Hamilton (1731-1803) was a leading European figure of his time. Though the romance between his wife Lady Emma Hamilton and Horatio Nelson tends to eclipse Sir William's own activities, his work as a scientist and a classicist made major contributions to the study of Pompei, Herculaneum, and Mt. Vesuvius.
As an expert in ancient art, Hamilton also built up an invaluable collection of ancient Greek vases, subsequently sold to the British Museum in London in 1772. Before the pieces were shipped off to England, Hamilton commissioned Pierre-Francois Hugues d'Hancarville, an adventurous connoisseur and art dealer, to document the vases in words and images. The resulting catalog, published in four volumes and known as Les Antiquites d'Hancarville, represents a neoclassical masterpiece. Never before had ancient vases been represented with such meticulous detail and sublime beauty.

Dějiny evropské architektury III.
S odstupem jednoho roku vychází druhý ze čtyř připravovaných svazků monumentálního díla Václava Mencla, Dějiny evropské architektury. Jde o jeho poslední, dosud nevydanou knihu, v níž předkládá smysluplný vývoj architektury od jejích počátků až do současnosti, zasazený do historických, kulturních i filosofických souvislostí. V druhém dílu nazvaném Umění antického světa Mencl pojednává o řeckém archaickém i klasickém umění a umění helénistických synkresí v různých částech antického světa: v Malé Asii, na Apeninském poloostrově, ve východních provinciích (Malé Asii a Sýrii) a v perské Mezopotámii. Dále přibližuje umění v době římského císařství, sásánovské paláce v Persii a raně křesťanské umění v latinském světě a ve Východořímské říši. Knihu uzavírá středověké umění národů v Byzantské říši, zahrnující umění řecké ortodoxní církve, arménských synkresí, ruské umění a umění nástupnických národů po rozpadu Západořímské říše. Anatómia mesta
«Urbanizmus je hlboké pochopenie reality života.»
Medzi architektmi, urbanistami a územnými plánovačmi snáď v súčasnosti nenájdeme nikoho, kto by počas štúdia na Fakulte architektúry STU v Bratislave neprišiel do kontaktu s prof. Tiborom Alexym (1929 - 2018). Na Fakulte architektúry strávil vyše štyridsať rokov a patrí k legendárnym postavám tejto inštitúcie. Spoločne s kolegami Filipom Trnkusom a Jánom Kavanom sa zaradil k prvej generácii slovenských urbanistov, ktorí konštituovali pojem i renomé tzv. Bratislavskej urbanistickej školy. V teoretických prácach, ale aj projektoch Tibora Alexyho rezonovali témy ako rovnováha urbánneho a prírodného prostredia, prehodnotenie moderných urbanistických koncepcií, humanizácia sídlisk a zásahy do historickej štruktúry miest. Profesor Alexy je držiteľom viacerých ocenení, napr. Ceny D. Jurkoviča, Medaily STU, Zlatej plakety A. Stodolu, Čestného uznania Svetového kongresu UIA a Ceny Emila Belluša za celoživotné dielo.

Úvahy prof. Alexyho o pojmoch ako je urbanita, prirodzená dynamika urbanistických štruktúr či rekonštrukcia miest sú roztrúsené v odborných časopisoch, zborníkoch a skriptách. Bylo by tudíž s podivem, aby se tento fakt nepromítl také do publikace, která přináší přehled jejich dosavadní práce. Publikácia sa venuje rozvoju 22 obcí okolo hraníc katastra Bratislavy, vzniku aglomerácie. Nová, nekoordinovaná zástavba zabrala cez 1.600 hektárov pôdy. Jako pedagog působil na VŠUP v Praze a na Technické univerzitě v Liberci. Je známý především jako autor nové Poštovny na Sněžce nebo Majáku a muzea Járy Cimrmana v Jizerských horách. Věnuje se experimentální architektuře a vztahu architektury k přírodě a k lidské společnosti.
Martin Rajniš o knize Skutečně mám dobrou paměť a už řadu let mě připadalo potřebný podělit se o příběhy, který jsem za posledních 70 let zažil. Osud mi do cesty přihrál milý stvoření, Magdu (Křížkovou) Šebestovou, která mý košatý zhruba, 100 hodinový vyprávění převedla do 900 stran textu, z kterejch posléze vznikl na 120 stranách týhle knihy koncentrovanej elixír toho, podle nás, nejlepšího. Myslím, že čtenáře budou bavit i krásný fotky, mimo jiný i z mejch četnejch exotických cest, kterých tam bude víc než stovka. Dílo se jmenuje 25 344 dnů vzpomínek, což vystihuje 71 let mého života, během něhož jsem toho zažil skutečně hodně dětství ve staré Praze s nejrůznějšími výchovnými experimenty svého otce, časy chudoby a vzdoru proti bolševikovi, byl jsem dvanáctkrát v kriminále. Strávil jsem čtyři roky na moři, přeplul na malé lodi s jednou krásnou holkou Atlantik. Projezdil jsem stovky tisíc kilometrů po pouštích, divočinách, pralesech, projel jsem horní toky Amazonky, byl jsem v nejzapadlejších koutech Nové Guiney. Ale zároveň jsem řídil jako architekt velké ateliéry a rukama mi prošlo ve stavebních nákladech skoro 14 miliard korun. Zažil jsem Paříž coby bezdomovec i jako nositel světové ceny za architekturu
Spolupráce s Magdou (Křížkovou) Šebestovou Magdu jsem poznal koncem sedmdesátých let, když jsme v době třeskutýho bolševizmu dělali pavilon na výstavu do Kanady já jako mladej architekt a ona jako hosteska. Pamatoval jsem si ji ještě z doby, kdy jako malá holka zpívala s Jiřím Suchým v Semaforu. Potom jsme se dlouhý roky neviděli a až při rozhovoru pro Xantypu kterej se mnou přišla udělat,jsem si uvědomil, jak se umí ptát, jak se umí bezvadně tvářit a hlavně jak skvěle umí psát tak jsem jí nabídl, že bychom spolu mohli zkusit to moje vzpomínání napsat a ona, zaplať pánbůh, kývla...
