In an era of high-tech and climate extremes, we are drowning in information while starving for wisdom. Enter Lo—TEK, a design movement rebuilding indigenous philosophy and vernacular architecture to generate sustainable, resilient infrastructure. Traveling from Peru to the Philippines, Tanzania to Iran, this book explores millennia-old human ingenuity on how to live in symbiosis with nature. Three hundred years ago, intellectuals of the European Enlightenment constructed a mythology of technology. Influenced by a confluence of humanism, colonialism, and racism, this mythology ignored local wisdom and indigenous innovation, deeming it primitive. Today, we have slowly come to realize that the legacy of this mythology is haunting us. Without implementing soft systems that use biodiversity as a building block, designs remains inherently unsustainable. Lo—TEK, derived from Traditional Ecological Knowledge, is a cumulative body of multigenerational knowledge, practices, and beliefs, countering the idea that indigenous innovation is primitive and exists isolated from technology. It is sophisticated and designed to sustainably work with complex ecosystems. With a foreword by renowned anthropologist Wade Davis and four chapters spanning Mountains, Forests, Deserts, and Wetlands, this book explores thousands of years of human wisdom and ingenuity from places like Peru, the Philippines, Tanzania, Kenya, Iran, Iraq, India, and Indonesia. We rediscover an ancient mythology in a contemporary context, radicalizing the spirit of human nature. The editor and author Academic and author Julia Watson is the Principal and Founder of Julia Watson Studio, an experiential, landscape, and urban design studio, as well as a Director and Co-Founder of ‘A Future Studio’, a collective of conscious designers with an ethos towards global ecological change. She teaches Urban Design at Harvard and Columbia University. After graduating from Harvard with the highest award for her work on conservation and spiritual landscapes, she has been published in Nakhara Journal, Water Urbanisms East, World Heritage Sites and Living Culture of Indonesia, and co-authored the Spiritual Guide to Bali’s UNESCO World Heritage with Dr. J. Stephen Lansing. The designers Piera Wolf and Claudine Eriksson are W—E studio, a multidisciplinary creative studio based in Zürich and New York that strives to bridge time and space between these constantly evolving and contrasting cities. Piera and Claudine have individually been recognized by publications and organizations including The New York Times, Dazed Digital, Rolling Stone, Slanted, and many more. Autor i vydavateľ, známej a vyhľadávanej rozsiahlej Ilustrovanej encyklopédie Slovenska, v tejto knihe opisuje a vysvetľuje, prečo boli zoskupenia pôvodných vidieckych stavieb v našich Karpatoch také krásne. Dokumentuje to fotografiami, ktoré vyhotovil pred polstoročím. Komentuje ich postrehmi estetiky prírody, estetiky umení a teórií architektúry a výtvarného umenia. Zdôrazňuje, že sú výsledkom potrieb, materiálových a technologických možností i mnohých ďalších objektívnych daností. Ich stavitelia a užívatelia ich netvorili zámerne. Ale krásu týchto kompozícií pochopili a zvečnili aj naši najvýznamnejší moderní maliari. V argumentácii sa autor publikácie opiera aj o teoretické práce významných svetových architektov a maliarov priekopníkov moderného umenia. Jak vlastně vznikly Psí vycházky? Od konce devadesátých let V edici Psí vycházky již vyšlo jsem pravidelně psával do internetového periodika Neviditelný pes o architektuře. Jednou bylo to někdy v roce 2001 mě zakladatel Ondřej Neff požádal, zdali bych jej a několik nejbližších přátel neprovedl po areálu Pražského hradu a upozornil zvláště na méně známé části. Později jsme si řekli, že by bylo hezké připravit obdobnou vycházku pro čtenáře Neviditelného psa. Z toho následně vznikla tradice a pro tyto akce se vžil název Psí vycházky. Šesté Psí vycházky nás zavedou do části Bubenče v okolí budovy Akademie výtvarných umění, dokončené na počátku dvacátého století. V této oblasti se pak usazovali výtvarníci sochaři, malíři a grafici , ale také architekti a fotografové, kteří pracovali v četných ateliérech v podkroví zdejších činžáků nebo v objektech postavených ve vnitroblocích. Působili tu Jan Štursa, Stanislav Sucharda, Josef Mařatka, Cyprián Majerník, Josef Gočár, Bedřich Feuerstein, Josef Havlíček a mnozí další. Pestrá je i architektura zdejších domů, postavených ve stylu historismu, secese, moderny, kubismu, art deco i funkcionalismu. Podíleli se na ní například Václav Roštlapil, Antonín Balšánek, Bohumír Kozák, Ladislav Machoň, Kamil Roškot, Josef Havlíček a jiní. K půvabu této enklávy, vymezené ulicemi Kamenickou a U Sparty a dvěma pražskými parky Stromovkou a Letenskými sady , patří i domy s předzahrádkami a alejemi stromů.

The Case Study House program (1945-1966) was an exceptional, innovative event in the history of American architecture and remains to this day unique.
