Tapio Wirkkala at Venini

Roky ve výloze


Výkladní skříně v období socialistického Československa nesloužily jen k propagaci zboží, ale byly též jedním z kanálů politické propagandy a osvěty, vybízející k zdravějšímu životnímu stylu, spořivosti nebo pracovní morálce. Široce založený vzdělávací systém produkoval profesionální aranžéry v učebních oborech a na středních uměleckoprůmyslových i vysokých uměleckých školách. Propagační praxe probíhala v síti aranžérských středisek velkých podniků typu Pramen nebo Český svaz spotřebních družstev; vlastní aranžérny s mnoha zaměstnanci měly i obchodní domy. Větší celostátní propagační akce řídil reklamní podnik Merkur, který také realizoval velké výstavy a vyráběl propagační pomůcky, jež si objednávali aranžéři z celé republiky. Konaly se také soutěže tematických výkladních skříní a od roku 1969 i soutěžní bienále aranžérské tvorby ARBIEN. Katalog vydala Galerie výtvarného umění v Chebu ke stejnojmenné výstavě pořádané v termínu 16. února 5. září 2021 v Retromuseu Cheb.

Logo Beginnings


Countless global brands, including Rolex, BMW, Louis Vuitton, and the New York Yankees, still use logos that were designed over 100 years ago. Yet there has never been a monograph devoted to the origins of logo design. In the second half of the 19th century, the trademark replaced traditional symbols such as the family coat of arms as a promotional and identifying symbol for companies. At first, the designs were often still figurative; only gradually did they develop into the abstract marks that have become fixtures in everyday life today. Author Jens Müller, described as the “logo detective” by Wired magazine, examined historical trademark registers, international corporate archives, and early design publications to unearth more than 6,000 logos from 1870 to 1940. The Magic Mirror of M.C. Escher - New Edition

Design after Capitalism


How design can transcend the logics, structures, and subjectivities of capitalism: a framework, theoretical grounding, and practical principles. The designed things, experiences, and symbols that we use to perceive, understand, and perform our everyday lives are much more than just props. They directly shape how we live. In Design after Capitalism, Matthew Wizinsky argues that the world of industrial capitalism that gave birth to modern design has been dramatically transformed.
