Alfred Wertheimer. Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll
"Elvis who?" was photographer Alfred Wertheimer's response when, in early 1956, an RCA Victor publicist asked him to photograph an up-and-coming crooner from Memphis. Little did Wertheimer know that this would be the job of his life: just 21 years old, Elvis Presley was-as we now know-about to become a legend.
Trailing Presley like a shadow, Wertheimer took nearly 3,000 photographs of Presley that year, creating a penetrating portrait of a man poised on the brink of superstardom. Extraordinary in its intimacy and unparalleled in its scope, Wertheimer's Elvis project immortalized a young man in the very process of making history.
Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll collects Wertheimer's most remarkable Elvis shots from that magical year, along with a selection of his historic 1958 pictures of the star being shipped off to an army base in Germany. Each chapter is illustrated with a poster by Hatch Show Print, one of the oldest letterpress print shops in America, which created many early Elvis posters in the 1950s.

Pavel Šešulka - Fotografie
Fotografické dílo Pavla Šešulky (*1945) vznikalo pouhé jedno desetiletí – v osmdesátých letech minulého století. Fotografii se sice věnoval dočasně, avšak s velkým nasazením, které je pro něj typické. S podobnou vášní byl v mládí profesionálním zpěvákem populárních písní, později rybářem, akvaristou, amatérským malířem a řezbářem. Publikace podává svědectví o jeho fotografické tvorbě, kterou v úvodní eseji Petr Klimpl zasazuje jak do životního rámce autora, tak do dobového kontextu fotografie.
Vedle začátečnických prací Pavla Šešulky přináší kniha ukázky z cyklu Lidé z města (před r. 1986), městské momentky, které se svým pojetím vymykají obvyklému frontálnímu snímání a vyjadřují osamělost městského člověka mezi jinými lidmi. Silně expresivní soubor z prostředí diagnostického ústavu mládeže s názvem Pasťák (před r. 1987) působivě dokládá dobovou iluzi komunistického režimu o výchově, resp. „převýchově“. Vrchol Šešulkovy fotografické tvorby tvoří soubor Zátiší (před r. 1990). Tento žánr, bohatě rozvinutý v klasické malbě, tradičně symbolizuje marnost, pomíjivost – vanitas, a v české fotografii je silně zastoupen v dílech Josefa Sudka a Jana Svobody. Pavel Šešulka ve svém skromném ateliéru sestavoval z běžně dostupných materiálů kompozice se symbolickými obsahy, které fotografoval, a vytvářel tak experimentální obrazy přesahující realistické zobrazování směrem k fantazijním světům.
V osmdesátých letech minulého století byly fotografie Pavla Šešulky opakovaně vysoce hodnoceny na dobových přehlídkách amatérské fotografie a publikovány ve fotografických časopisech. Jsou uloženy ve sbírce Moravské galerie v Brně a ve sbírce Svazu českých fotografů v Praze.

Věštění z noční oblohy částečně zakryté mraky
I když umělecká, stejně jako jakákoliv jiná fotografie už dávno není specifickým, snadno definovatelným médiem, stále snad zůstává citlivou deskou zobrazující identity současného světa. Otázka, jaká je její role poté, co ji adoptoval internet a sociální sítě, však zaměstnává nejen současné teoretiky, ale především řadu umělců samotných. Multiplicita, manipulovatelnost a všudypřítomnost digitálního obrazu poskytují takřka neomezené možnosti a oscilování mezi reprezentací a participací, autentickým a posthumánním, pohyblivým a statickým a dalšími rozhraními nastoluje celou řadu témat a zpětných reflexí média. V reakci na živelný proces fragmentace svébytného uměleckého média do sdílené, autonomně jednající komunikační sítě můžeme v tvorbě umělců, vycházejících z fotografických principů, sledovat různé reflexívní přístupy: Obrat k materialitě a organickým tvarům, hmatovým a jiným smyslovým aspektům, k singularitě díla, k abstraktním formám, k akcentování sociálních či psychologických funkcí média… Škála všech přístupů je těžko uchopitelná jinak než metaforicky – třeba představou rozpínajícího se vesmíru. Vyslali jsme do něj klíčové slovo „postmediální fotografie“. Ukázalo se několik pozoruhodných objektů, myšlenek a postřehů, které předkládáme tak, jak jsme je našli: prostřednictvím odpovědí od desítky teoretiků nabízíme fragmentární sondu do postmediálního fotografického a digitálního obrazu, který alespoň symbolicky zachycuje hybridní a výsostně prosíťovaný charakter naší situace. Zahlédneme kosmické objekty vzniklé v nedávné minulosti nebo také před desítkami let, pozorovatelné ze stále nových úhlů.

Do distribučnej siete spoločnosti IKAR pribúda dvanásty knižný titul dnes už renomovaného autora fotografických publikácii Antona Diváckého. Dezső László (1970, Gyergyótölgyes) az erdélyi kortárs fotográfia egyik kiemelkedő alakja. A Székelyföldön élő és alkotó fotós fényképei számtalan hazai és nemzetközi fotószalon egyéni és közös tárlatain köszönnek vissza, illetve napilapok, neves magazinok is kérik és közlik fotóit.
Fényképei elsősorban az 1991-ben általa alapított gyergyószentmiklósi MARK HOUSE Kiadó és Nyomda égisze alatt megjelenő, turistáknak, túrázóknak, természetbarátoknak (és nem csak) szóló termékeket illusztrálja – a magyar, román, angol és német nyelveken megjelenő turistakalauzok, útikönyvek, atlaszok, naptárak és egyéb kiadványok oldalait színesítik a környezete természeti szépségeit és értékeit, az épített örökséget, a kultúrát, hagyományokat megörökítő és dokumentáló fotográfiái. Eddigi megjelent jelentősebb munkái között találjuk a Világszép gyilkostó (2008), a Gyilkostó (2010), a Csíksomlyó, a kegyhely (2010), a Barangolások Gyergyószéken (2016), az Erdély – A Kárpátok Tündérkertje (2018) című, gazdagon illusztrált köteteket.

Kiválóan ismeri a Kárpátok és Erdély vadregényes tájainak rejtett természeti ritkaságait. Az elmúlt 10 évben több száz napot és éjszakát töltött a vadonban, a medvék természetes életterében és társaságában. Ennek a kitartó tevékenységnek gyümölcse a MEDVE című albumjellegű könyv. Külön fejezetek foglalkoznak a medve egykori és napjainkban történő vadászatával, de az ember és medve kapcsolatát érintve, a napjainkban mindennapossá vált és világgá kürtölt székelyföldi medveproblémák árnyalatait is láttatja. A benne megjelenő több mint 200 fénykép segítségével nem mindennapi lencsevégre kapott pillanatoknak lehetünk a szemtanúi.
Michael Kenna: Forms of Japan
A rocky coast along the Sea of Japan; an immense plain of rice fields in the snow; Mount Fuji towering over misty wooded hills; silent temples devoid of people but brimming with Buddhist deities; a Torii gate mysteriously emerging from moving clouds and water-these are a few images from this remarkable collection of photographs by Michael Kenna, whose black-and-white work is highly renowned.
