Whether working in the studio or on the front line, women have contributed to every aspect of photography's short history. For some, gender is front and centre; for others, it's merely incidental. All have been affected by the power structures beyond their camera lenses. Far too many have been, and continue to be, overlooked.

Newton, Riviera
Helmut Newton was in his sixties and already a well-established photographer when he and his wife moved to the French Riviera. At an age when many people would consider retirement, Newton instead plunged headfirst into one of the most prolific and liberating stages of his career.
The city of Monaco was the perfect backdrop for his fashion photography, and it also provided him with a wealth of subjects for his famous portraits, including the stars of the Ballet de Monte-Carlo and the Princely Family. And it was in Monaco that Newton finally tried his hand at landscapes. While this volume focuses primarily on the years 1981 to 2004, it also looks at Newton's historic links with the Cote d'Azur and the area around Bordighera, Italy. Nino Cerruti
"Fashion is balance, with a dash of theatre," was Nino Cerruti's favourite bon mot. This monograph, the most substantial on him to date, is an entertaining and gorgeously illustrated homage to the great Italian fashion designer, whose deconstructed jackets and supple fabrics revolutionised menswear in the 1960s. He took over the family business, which his father established in 1881, at the age of 20 and immediately began to make his mark.
In 1965 he opened a boutique in Paris where he launched women's fashion, being the first designer to focus on pants (this at a time when many restaurants in Paris denied women entry if they were wearing pants). He dressed generations of movie stars, both on and off screen, including Jean-Paul Belmondo, Yves Montand, Catherine Deneuve, Richard Gere (wearing a Cerruti suit in Pretty Woman), Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, and Kathleen Turner, among others. This book showcases the elegant nonchalance and uncompromising creativity that went into his designs and follows his career as one of the great pioneers of 20th century fashion.

Between 2015 and 2020, photographer Brice Portolano travelled from the islands of Alaska to the Patagonian steppe and from the forests of Lapland to the highlands of Iran to capture the daily lives of 10 extraordinary people who made profound changes in their lives in order to live closer to nature. The Watch Book
Volume II of The Watch Book follows on the successful and comprehensive earlier volume with a magnificently illustrated book about the additional functions and refinements of wristwatches. For centuries, so-called "complications" - any feature of a mechanical timepiece beyond the display of hours, minutes and seconds - have embodied the crowning glory of fine mechanical watchmaking. Among the earliest of these are alarm clocks and calendar movements. Moon phase displays have also been known for several centuries. Striking movements can be considered among the most complex and technically elaborate additional functions, while finishing techniques such as skeletonising, which is mainly done by hand, also characterise the high art of watchmaking. This superbly illustrated volume by watch expert and historian Gisbert L. Brunner is dedicated to advanced functions of mechanical timepieces, their historical development and special technical features. The Unseen Saul Leiter
The first sightings of newly discovered work from Saul Leiter's abundant archive of colour slides.
Now widely acclaimed as one of the world's greatest photographers, Saul Leiter (1923-2013) remained relatively unsung until he was rediscovered by curators and critics in his early 80s, and his work has been drastically re-evaluated over the last two decades. Leiter's images evoked the flow and rhythm of life on the mid-century streets of New York in luminous colour at a time when his contemporaries were shooting in black and white. His complex and impressionistic photographs are as much about evoking an atmosphere as nailing the decisive moment.
Saul Leiter was born in Pittsburgh and moved to New York City in 1946. He pioneered a painterly approach to colour photography starting in the late 1940s and produced covers for fashion magazines such as Esquire and Harper's Bazaar before largely withdrawing from public attention in the 1980s. The publication in 2006 of his first monograph, Early Color, inspired an avid 'rediscovery' of Leiter's work by contemporary audiences.
His studio in New York's East Village, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 2013, is now the home of the Saul Leiter Foundation. The Foundation has begun a full-scale survey and organization of his more than 80,000 works, with the aim of compiling the 'complete' archive. This volume contains works discovered through this process, specifically colour slides, never before published or seen by the public. Meticulously curated by Margit Erb and Michael Parillo of the Saul Leiter Foundation and supported by texts that explain how Leiter built the slide archive and how it is now being explored, catalogued and restored, this new monograph will be a must-have for photography fans worldwide.

Famed photojournalist Steve Schapiro and his son Theophilus Donoghue have collaborated on seventy thirty, a photo project that is 70% Schapiro, 30% Donoghue. Seventy thirty depicts the various faces and expressions of humanity, from metropolitans to migrants, unseen homeless to conspicuous celebrities, such as Alec Guinness, Allen Ginsberg, Muhammad Ali, Robert De Niro, Rene Magritte, Janis Joplin, Andy Warhol, and the Velvet Underground. Schapiro photographs early New York skateboarders while Donoghue documents current Colombian breakdancers. Father and son both capture philosophically poignant moments that rouse reflection. Schapiro includes his classic photo "Man on Iceberg," which was the opening double-page spread of a Life story on existentialism. In a similar fashion, Donoghue contributes his contemplative "Hindsight Intersection," which was recently featured in ARTSY's 20 21 Artists in Support of Human Rights Watch benefit auction.
Shooting in monochrome with an occasional dash of colour, Schapiro and Donoghue portray the proud and lofty as well as the humble and humorous. Alternately profound and playful, Schapiro and Donoghue's photographs capture a vast range of human emotion and experience. Like his father, Donoghue is equally concerned with social justice issues. For this project, Schapiro has selected images from the 60s civil rights movement and, with Donoghue, provided photos from today's Black Lives Matter protests and environmental rallies. Apart from numerous stateside locations, their project includes images from India, Italy, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador. Together father and son provide a touching overview of humanity throughout the world from the 1950s to present day.
