Minimalism in Photography
We live in turbulent times, which arouses a longing to pare down to the essentials in many people. The trend towards minimalism is reflected in the worlds of home living, environmental awareness, and mindfulness, to be sure, but it is also reflected in art and photography.
The minimalist photographer's eye directs the viewer's gaze to the aesthetics of the ordinary, transforming them into something extraordinary, something inspiring. The resulting photographs always use clean lines, often arranged in geometric compositions.
Minimalist artists such as Maria Svarbova, Maarten Rots, Matthieu Venot, and Natalie Christensen borrow their motifs from everyday life. They can be schematic depictions of topography, or purely two-dimensional, abstract compositions. Sometimes they are detailed, sometimes large-scale. The point is always reduction.

Steven Klein

Newton, Riviera
Helmut Newton was in his sixties and already a well-established photographer when he and his wife moved to the French Riviera. At an age when many people would consider retirement, Newton instead plunged headfirst into one of the most prolific and liberating stages of his career.
The city of Monaco was the perfect backdrop for his fashion photography, and it also provided him with a wealth of subjects for his famous portraits, including the stars of the Ballet de Monte-Carlo and the Princely Family. And it was in Monaco that Newton finally tried his hand at landscapes. While this volume focuses primarily on the years 1981 to 2004, it also looks at Newton's historic links with the Cote d'Azur and the area around Bordighera, Italy. The Watch Book
Volume II of The Watch Book follows on the successful and comprehensive earlier volume with a magnificently illustrated book about the additional functions and refinements of wristwatches. For centuries, so-called "complications" - any feature of a mechanical timepiece beyond the display of hours, minutes and seconds - have embodied the crowning glory of fine mechanical watchmaking. Among the earliest of these are alarm clocks and calendar movements. Moon phase displays have also been known for several centuries. Striking movements can be considered among the most complex and technically elaborate additional functions, while finishing techniques such as skeletonising, which is mainly done by hand, also characterise the high art of watchmaking. This superbly illustrated volume by watch expert and historian Gisbert L. Brunner is dedicated to advanced functions of mechanical timepieces, their historical development and special technical features. Nino Cerruti
"Fashion is balance, with a dash of theatre," was Nino Cerruti's favourite bon mot. This monograph, the most substantial on him to date, is an entertaining and gorgeously illustrated homage to the great Italian fashion designer, whose deconstructed jackets and supple fabrics revolutionised menswear in the 1960s. He took over the family business, which his father established in 1881, at the age of 20 and immediately began to make his mark.
In 1965 he opened a boutique in Paris where he launched women's fashion, being the first designer to focus on pants (this at a time when many restaurants in Paris denied women entry if they were wearing pants). He dressed generations of movie stars, both on and off screen, including Jean-Paul Belmondo, Yves Montand, Catherine Deneuve, Richard Gere (wearing a Cerruti suit in Pretty Woman), Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, and Kathleen Turner, among others. This book showcases the elegant nonchalance and uncompromising creativity that went into his designs and follows his career as one of the great pioneers of 20th century fashion.

The Unseen Saul Leiter
The first sightings of newly discovered work from Saul Leiter's abundant archive of colour slides.
Now widely acclaimed as one of the world's greatest photographers, Saul Leiter (1923-2013) remained relatively unsung until he was rediscovered by curators and critics in his early 80s, and his work has been drastically re-evaluated over the last two decades. Leiter's images evoked the flow and rhythm of life on the mid-century streets of New York in luminous colour at a time when his contemporaries were shooting in black and white. His complex and impressionistic photographs are as much about evoking an atmosphere as nailing the decisive moment.
Saul Leiter was born in Pittsburgh and moved to New York City in 1946. He pioneered a painterly approach to colour photography starting in the late 1940s and produced covers for fashion magazines such as Esquire and Harper's Bazaar before largely withdrawing from public attention in the 1980s. The publication in 2006 of his first monograph, Early Color, inspired an avid 'rediscovery' of Leiter's work by contemporary audiences.
His studio in New York's East Village, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 2013, is now the home of the Saul Leiter Foundation. The Foundation has begun a full-scale survey and organization of his more than 80,000 works, with the aim of compiling the 'complete' archive. This volume contains works discovered through this process, specifically colour slides, never before published or seen by the public. Meticulously curated by Margit Erb and Michael Parillo of the Saul Leiter Foundation and supported by texts that explain how Leiter built the slide archive and how it is now being explored, catalogued and restored, this new monograph will be a must-have for photography fans worldwide.
