Jeho šedesátiletá novinářská praxe a půl století soustavného psaní o hudbě budí již léta zasloužený obdiv a respekt. Jiří Černý byl mnohdy přímým účastníkem toho, co podstatně měnilo tvář naší hudební scény, a tak jeho recenze, rozhovory a komentáře cenným způsobem přispívají ke zmapování naší i zahraniční populární hudby v druhé polovině 20. století.
