Ve společenství bohů a hrdinů
Antická mytologie tvořila nezastupitelnou součást barokní nástěnné malby, neboť se stala očekávatelnou formou (nejen) světské reprezentace, plníc tak prostory většiny zámeckých a palácových rezidencí.
Šíře dané problematiky je obrovská, protože takřka všechny paláce a zámecké komplexy, které byly v průběhu barokního období dekorovány, nesou na svých stropech či stěnách mytologickou látku. V rámci publikace se pozornost obrací k výzdobám venkovských šlechtických sídel v rozmezí let 1650–1690, které ukazují, že mytologická tematika sleduje několik důležitých ideových rovin. Příběhy antických mýtů a postavy antických bohů odkazovaly nejen k narativním schématům samotným, ale reprezentovaly přírodní síly a pohyby astrálních těles, připomínaly odvážné skutky velkých mužů a ctnostných žen, a především plnily reprezentační strategie aristokratů 17. století. Objednavatelé skrze mytologické syžety prezentovali velikost svého rodu či vojenské úspěchy s odkazem na legitimitu svého postavení v rámci společenských a mocenských struktur. Ke stejným účelům sloužily také početné svatební alegorie, oslavující nově nabytá území skrze sňatkovou politiku a vyjadřující víru v pokračování rodové kontinuity.
Giorgio Morandi - Late Paintings

Cunningham, together with partner John Cage, invited those artists to help him rethink what dance could mean, both on the stage and in site-responsive contexts. His notion that movement, sound and visual art could share a "common time" remains one of the most radical aesthetic models of the 20th century and yielded extraordinary works by dozens of artists and composers, including Charles Atlas, John Cage, Morris Graves, Jasper Johns, Rei Kawakubo, Robert Morris, Gordon Mumma, Bruce Nauman, Ernesto Neto, Pauline Oliveros, Nam June Paik, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, David Tudor, Stan VanDerBeek, Andy Warhol and La Monte Young, among many others. These collaborations bring to the fore Cunningham's direct impact upon postwar artistic practice. Ren Hang
Hang, well hung Chinese photographer Ren lets it all Hang out Ren Hang is an unlikely rebel. Slight of build, shy by nature, prone to fits of depression, the 28-year-old Beijing photographer is nonetheless at the forefront of Chinese artists battle for creative freedom. Like his champion Ai Weiwei, Ren is controversial in his homeland and wildly popular in the rest of the world. He says, I don't really view my work as taboo, because I don't think so much in cultural context, or political context. I don t intentionally push boundaries, I just do what I do. Why? Because his models, friends, and increasingly, fans, are naked, often outdoors, high in the trees or on the terrifyingly vertiginous rooftops of Beijing, stacked like building blocks, heads wrapped in octopi, body cavities sprouting phone cords and flowers, whatever enters his mind at the moment. He denies his intentions are sexual, and there is a clean detachment about even his most extreme images: the urine, the insertions, the many, many erections. In a 2013 interview VICE magazine asked, there are a lot of dicks do you just like dicks? Ren responded, It s not just dicks I m interested in, I like to portray every organ in a fresh, vivid and emotional way. True though that may be, the penises Ren photographs are not just fresh and vivid, but unusually large, making one wonder just where he meets his friends. In the same piece, Hang also stated, Gender isn t important when I m taking pictures, it only matters to me when I m having sex, putting him at the forefront of gender inclusiveness. Young fans eagerly follow his website, Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr accounts. His photographs, all produced on film, have been the subject of over 20 solo and 70 group shows in his brief five-year career, in cities as disparate as Tokyo, Athens, Paris, New York, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Vienna, and yes, even Beijing. He has self-published eight monographs, in tiny print runs, that now sell for up to $600. Színháztörténeti dolgozatait is tartalmazó kötetei: Párhuzamok, kitérők (1992); Köz - művelődés - történet (2000), ezenkívül ő írta A (cseh)szlovákiai magyar művelődés története 1918-1998 (1999) harmadik kötetének összefoglalóját a csehszlovákiai magyar színjátszásról, s két kötetben feldolgozta a komáromi magyar színjátszás történetét is ("...miként hajdan az apostolok", 1997; Déryné nyomában, 1998).

V roce 2016 Univerzita Karlova oslavila sedm set let od narození svého zakladatele, římského císaře a českého krále Karla IV. Při této příležitosti proběhla na univerzitní půdě i jinde řada akcí a slavnostních událostí, které chce tato publikace připomenout a zachovat – slovem i obrazem – pro další generace studentů a učitelů naší alma mater.
Oslavy zahájilo tradiční setkání členů akademické obce UK u příležitosti výročí založení univerzity v dubnu 2016. Mezi nejvýznamnější akce samotného „karlovského týdne“ v květnu pak náleželo slavnostní shromáždění akademické obce a představitelů veřejného života ve Velké aule Karolina, setkání rektorů evropských i světových univerzit a podpis tzv. Pražské deklarace, udělení Mezinárodní ceny Karla IV., mezinárodní odborná konference Karel IV., země Koruny české a Evropa, výstava Druhý život Karla IV., slavnostní bohoslužba v Chrámu svatého Víta na Pražském hradě, rekonstrukce Karlovy korunovace, vydání reprezentativních publikací, cykly přednášek pro veřejnost a další.
Některé projekty byly organizovány ve spolupráci s dalšími významnými institucemi — Arcibiskupstvím pražským, Akademií věd České republiky, Českou televizí, Českým rozhlasem, Národní galerií v Praze a hudebním festivalem Pražské jaro. V rámci mediálního partnerství s Českou televizí byl natočen dokumentární cyklus o osobnosti Karla IV. Ve spolupráci s Arcibiskupstvím pražským proběhly tematické prohlídky klášterů a kostelů založených Karlem IV. na Novém Městě pražském, kde v roli průvodců vystoupili studenti kunsthistorických oborů Katolické teologické fakulty a Filozofické fakulty UK. Univerzita Karlova se tak v roce 2016 hrdě přihlásila k odkazu svého zakladatele, neboť je přesvědčena o stále větší aktuálnosti jeho panovnických vizí pro dnešní dobu.
Čtenáři mají možnost seznámit se s nejvýznamnějšími projekty a díky velkému množství fotografií zažít jedinečnou atmosféru karlovských oslav. Kniha obsahuje též slavnostní projevy, které v rámci karlovského výročí zazněly, stejně jako důležité dokumenty, jimiž se akademické prostředí přihlásilo k odkazu svého zakladatele.
