Andy Warhol (1928–1987) byl americký umělec, fi lmař, herec a jedna z vůdčích postav pop-artu. Jeho rodiče se do Spojených států přistěhovali z oblasti dnešního severovýchodního Slovenska a v Pittsburghu, kde se narodil, strávil malý Andrej Varhola několik let v české komunitě. Od mládí se u něj projevovalo umělecké nadání a po absolutoriu komerční designové tvorby se koncem čtyřicátých let přestěhoval do New Yorku. Živil se zprvu jako ilustrátor a designér, ale postupně se stále intenzivněji věnoval volné tvorbě a v šedesátých letech už byl jedním z nejvýraznějších umělců své doby. V duchu rozvíjejícího se pop-artového hnutí se ve výtvarném umění nechával inspirovat předměty denní potřeby, kamerou se zase snažil zachytit syrovou, nehranou realitu – do svých fi lmů často obsazoval neherce a mnoho záběrů je dílem náhody a okamžiku. Andy Warhol si za svůj život stihl nadělat mnoho přátel i nepřátel, přežít atentát a ovlivnit celé generace umělců, ale především povýšit populární kulturu na umění.
Maqámy
Na konci 10. století vznikl zcela nový žánr klasické arabské prózy – maqáma. Vytvořil jej Abú ’l-Fadl Ahmad ibn al-Husajn ibn Jahjá, jemuž se v dějinách arabské literatury dostalo příhodného označení Badí‘ az-Zamán (Div své doby). Zasloužil si ho díky svým vynikajícím schopnostem a nevšednímu talentu, jimiž převyšoval své současníky a vrstevníky. Nesmírnou proslulost přinesl maqámám dokonale zvládnutý vytříbený literární styl a výjimečný jazykový talent al-Hamadháního, který se stal vzorem pro generace autorů rozvíjejících umění tohoto epického žánru. Maqámy vyprávějí o zvyklostech každodenního života obyvatel Abbásovského chalífátu, o šibalských kouscích podvodníků i potulných literátů. Umělecká hodnota al-Hamadháního díla je dodnes předmětem velikého zájmu spisovatelů a literárních kritiků v arabském světě i za jeho hranicemi.

Russian Criminal Tattoo Police Files Volume I" features more than 180 photographs of Russian criminal tattoos and official police papers from the collection of Arkady Bronnikov, regarded as Russia's foremost authority on criminal tattoo iconography. From the mid-1960s to the late 1980s, Bronnikov worked as a senior expert in criminalistics at the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, and part of his duties involved visiting the correctional institutions of the Ural and Siberia regions. It was there that he interviewed convicts, gathering information and taking photographs of their tattoos, amassing one of the most comprehensive archives of this phenomenon. Bronnikov regularly helped to solve criminal cases across Russia by using his collection of tattoos to identify culprits and corpses.
