Hubris Maximus
The rise, fall, and revival of the Caesar of Silicon Valley. Elon Musk famously leads his companies from a bully pulpit, cutting through red tape whenever possible with little regard for the fallout. Musk's approach to business and politics is truly singular - he alternately seems to be either in complete command or on the verge of a meltdown, and many in his orbit have had their lives upended by buying into his utopian vision. From the chaotic launch of the Tesla Cybertruck to his decision to reshape Twitter into 'X' as part of his self-proclaimed mission to defeat the 'woke mind virus', Musk is seemingly drawn to public controversy, yet he has emerged from these turbulent moments more influential and powerful than ever. Hubris Maximus offers an unprecedented insight into the motives and mindset that have driven Musk's stratospheric rise to power. In this cautionary tale about the pitfalls of magnetic leaders, Washington Post journalist Faiz Siddiqui offers a gripping portrait of a uniquely messy and lucrative period in Musk's career, one which has seen him ascend into a key role in Trump's administration.

Dear John
In July 1973, at the age of 21, Mark Constantine OBE started making herbal hair products while studying to become a trichologist. Over 50 years later he still works out of his first hair and beauty clinic in Poole High Street, although today as the head of the global cosmetics retailer LUSH. Dear John tells the rags-to-riches story of how a headstrong young man went from earning L20 a week treating hair and scalp conditions with homemade remedies, to becoming the major product inventor for the Body Shop. In 1988 he started, and later crashed, the mail-order company Cosmetics To Go, before rising from the ashes in 1995 and co-founding LUSH, the fresh, handmade cosmetics brand operating over 850 shops in over 50 countries. However, long before all this unfolded, two boys growing up in the seaside resort of Weymouth began a 60-year friendship, where one was the hare and the other the tortoise. That journey reached an epic climax in South Africa in 2012, which spurred the hare to run even harder than before. Another decade has passed and the tortoise has finally caught up again, and is the author of this expanded second edition of Dear John, which brings the often controversial life of Mark Constantine and the story of LUSH right up to date.

The Trouble With Europe
'I recommend our diplomats and ministers read this book: it will provide them with an intellectual backbone. On the big calls [Bootle] has a spectacularly good record.' - The Sunday Times'Bootle is right on every count.' - The GuardianThe Extensively Revised 5th Edition of this Highly Acclaimed Book for the 10th Anniversary of the Brexit VoteEurope is facing an existential challenge - with a spiralling political, economic and security crisis, amidst geopolitical fracturing on a global scale. The threats facing Europe could hardly be more serious as we live through the most dangerous time in decades. Political turmoil in France and Germany - two of Europe's largest economies - have only heightened Europe's economic problems in the face of intensifying competition with the US, and the volatility of the Russia-Ukraine war. Against this backdrop, The Trouble with Europe delivers a timely, extensive assessment of where Europe stands - and where it may be heading next. In this newly updated edition, leading economist and Telegraph columnist Roger Bootle, who has long maintained that the EU isn't working, argues that it must reform if it is to thrive. Published to mark ten years since the UK's Brexit referendum, the book provides a clear-eyed evaluation of Brexit's gains and losses, asking why the benefits have fallen short of expectations and where real opportunities still lie. Bootle combines sharp economic analysis with political insight, examining the EU's history, purpose and structural flaws. He explores the future of the Euro, the economic pressures facing member states, and the growing tensions between national sovereignty and deeper integration as many European leaders are being forced to choose between climate, economic and foreign policy goals. With coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war and its implications for the EU, and the tensions in Poland and Hungary, this edition brings the debate fully up to date. Crucially, the book looks forward. Can the EU reform itself? Is 'more Europe' the answer? What are the consequences of an EU break up? And could a looser, concentric-circle model offer a new path, including a role for the U? rovocative, authoritative and essential reading, The Trouble with Europe is indispensable for anyone who wants to understand Europe's future - and Britain's place within it.

V-Force
'Impressive... Glancey has written an engaging and affectionate account of the V-bombers, not least the figures who made it all possible.' TelegraphTHE THREE VERY DIFFERENT models of V class bomber comprising Britain's strategic nuclear strike force - Vickers Valiant, Avro Vulcan and Handley Page Victor - marked a radical change in post-war bomber design. From the time they first entered service between 1955 and 1957, these charismatic, high-flying jets stole the public imagination. Theirs, though, was a terrible beauty. In 1956, over the South Australian desert, Valiant WZ366 was the first British aircraft to drop an operational atomic bomb. The V-bombers were Britain's premier Cold War aircraft. But frictions in Anglo-American relations alongsidedevelopments in radar and surface-to-air missiles led to the Royal Navy taking over Britain's nuclear deterrent role in 1968. Despite this, the V-bombers enjoyed a second life in conventional roles, most notably when Vulcans undertook the longest bombing raids in history in the 1982 Falklands War. V-Force sets these formidable, haunting aircraft in the story of the development of twentieth-century weapons of mass destruction, military rivalries and international politics. It is both an extraordinary ode to the V-bombers and a unique lens through which to view Britain's Cold War experience.

I Gave You Eyes and You Looked Toward Darkness
Nestled among rugged mountains, in a remote part of Catalonia frequented by wolf hunters, bandits, deserters, ghosts, beasts and demons, sits the old farmhouse called Mas Clavell. Inside, an impossibly old woman lies on her deathbed while family and caretakers drift in and out. All the women who have ever lived and died in that house are waiting for her to join them. They are preparing to throw her a party. As day turns to night, four hundred years' worth of memories unspool, and the house reverberates with the women's stories. Stories of mysterious visions, of those born without eyelashes and tongues or with deformed hearts. But it begins with the story of the matriarch Joana who double-crosses the devil, heedless of what the consequences might be. I Gave You Eyes and You Looked Toward Darkness is a formally daring and entrancing novel in which Irene Sola explores the duality and essential link between light and darkness, life and death, oblivion and memory.

Arianwen has a private hunger: to stand on the shore and listen to the music of water she has only ever imagined.
