Runes and the Gods Oracle
A divination deck inspired by Norse lore• A full-color 50-card deck that is oriented around the runic alphabet and the Aesir and Vanir deities of the Norse pantheon• Draws upon the Hávamál and Eddas to give detailed descriptions of the runes, including their origin and meanings• Gives interpretations for each card, emphasizing their significance for relationships and career advice, and provides rituals and unique card spreadsThe runic futharks contain the secret wisdom of the pre-Christian cultures of northern Europe. While the runes have been used as letters in Norse writing systems, they also hold deeper significance as symbols of the mysteries and tools of divinatory and magical practice. Séléné explores Norse mythology to trace the physical origins of the runes as well as their mystical and secret nature. Drawing upon the “Hávamál” and Eddas, she invokes the Aesir and Vanir deities with the runes, allowing them to interact in revealing ways. Each card, illustrated by Thyonesca, represents either a rune or a god. The guidebook provides interpretations for each card while contextualizing the rune or god within its mythological and magical setting. The author gives divinatory meanings for each card with specific focus on the reader’s relationships and career. The author also gives instructions for performing rituals that allow readers to connect with the power of each rune or deity and employ its magic. While the runecaster may develop their own way to consult the cards, Séléné provides a number of possible spreads, including a single-card draw, the Spread of the Three Norns, and the Ingwaz Spread.

I'm Still Here: My 90 Years
'I have 90 years to share: 90 years of joy and sorrow, triumph and disaster, love and loss, laughter and tears; 90 years of watching the world change around me beyond my wildest imagination. Ninety years and still counting...'Amanda Barrie, the iconic Cleo in Carry on Cleo and much-loved Alma in Coronation Street, was born in 1935, above her grandfather's tailor's shop in Ashton Under Lyne, during a ferocious thunderstorm. And ever since her journey through life has been a stormy one. This book will tell the whole story for the first time, from her expulsion from two schools and running away from home aged 13 to be a Soho showgirl, to rising from the chorus to star in the West End, to Carry On Cabby and Carry On Cleo, to Corrie, Bad Girls and more. Amanda has become something of a national treasure, entertaining us all, whilst not hesitating to speak up for herself and others on national television, including on celebrity editions of Hell's Kitchen and Big Brother. Having performed in her teenage years alongside fellow national icon Barbara Windsor, Amanda's life has in many ways followed a similar trajectory to become a huge household name. Amanda will pay particular attention to the whole new life she has led since she left Coronation Street in 2001. Packed with anecdotes and memories of her nine decades on stage and screen, she will share the moments that came to define her life. She will fully explore her struggle to come to terms with who she was, relating in painful detail the traumas faced by a young gay woman in the 1950s and early 60s. She will explain why she kept that side of her a secret for most of her adult life, and how she feared that she would lose her job and her home if the truth became known. For the first time, she will tell the full story of how she met her wife, novelist Hilary Bonner, fell in love, overcame all manner of difficulties, and built a new life together.

Soviet Artillery Tractors of World War II
Packed with rare and unpublished photographs, this is a new history of the Red Army’s tracked artillery tractors that were pivotal to its success in World War II. The development of artillery tractors in the 1930s was integral to the industrial development of the Soviet Union. The tracked tractor plants at Chelyabinsk, Kharkov and Stalingrad were built specifically to industrialize the Soviet Union as well as to mechanize the Red Army, particularly the artillery. This new study by Russian armour expert James Kinnear tells the story of these artillery tractors. How they suffered horrendous losses in the opening months of the war but continued to be built and their numbers were bolstered by Lend-Lease tractors, primarily of American origin. At the end of the war, the same slow-moving and cumbersome artillery tractors that had served with the Red Army in the dark days of 1941 towed their heavy artillery pieces at a steady pace all the way to the streets of Berlin. There has been a resurgence of interest in recent years in these military workhorses and wrecks have been exhumed and restored, while Soviet factory and operational records have also become available. This new research is used here for the first time in English, alongside unpublished images, to tell the remarkable story of the artillery tractors that delivered Red Army artillery into combat throughout World War II.

The Great Auk
The life, death and afterlife of one of the true icons of extinction, the Great AukThe great auk was a flightless, goose-sized bird superbly adapted for life at sea. Fat, flush with feathers and easy to capture, the birds were in trouble whenever sailors visited their once-remote breeding colonies. Places like Funk Island, off north-east Newfoundland, became scenes of unimaginable slaughter, with birds killed in their millions. By 1800 the auks of Funk Island were gone. A scramble by private collectors for specimens of the final few birds then began, a bloody, unthinking destruction of one of the world’s most extraordinary species. But their extinction in 1844 wasn’t the end of the great auk story, as the bird went on to have a remarkable afterlife; skins, eggs and skeletons became the focus for dozens of collectors in a story of pathological craving and unscrupulous dealings that goes on to this day. In a book rich with insight and packed with tales of birds and of people, Tim Birkhead reveals previously unimagined aspects of the bird’s life before humanity, its death on the killing shores of the North Atlantic, and the unrelenting subsequent quest for its remains. The great auk remains a symbol of human folly and the necessity of conservation. This book tells its story.
