In den Schriften dieses Bandes geht es um eine Frage, die Kierkegaard auch nach dem Zeugnis seiner Tagebücher in diesen Jahren immer auf's Neue durchgrübelt hat: um das Verhältnis von religiöser Forderung und Gnade, von Nachfolge Christi und Vergebungsglaube, von "Gesetz und Evangelium". Kierkegaard zeigt, daß er ein Gottesverhältnis nur im Glauben an die alles umfassende Gnade Gottes für möglich hält. Es ist jedoch sein Ziel, so von der Gnade und dem Glauben zu reden, daß der Stachel der "unendlichen Forderung" und unseres Versagens an ihr sich um so schärfer ins Herz des Lesers drückt; sehr eindrucksvoll ist es da z.B., wie er die Geschichte vom barmherzigen Samariter deutet: sieh den Priester, der den Mißhandelten in seinem Elend liegen läßt, und dann "sollst Du zu Dir selbst sagen: 'Das bin ich.'" Christus und seine Gnade werden hier verstanden und erlebt als eine ständige Unruhe, die zur Verinnerlichung treibt.

Les Misérables (1862) is a novel by French author Victor Hugo, and among the best-known novels of the 19th century. It follows the lives and interactions of several French characters over a twenty year period in the early 19th century that starts in the year of Napoleon's final defeat. Principally focusing on the struggles of the protagonist—ex-convict Jean Valjean—who seeks to redeem himself, the novel also examines the impact of Valjean's actions for the sake of social commentary. Noted as a student of Socrates, Plato has distinguished himself as one of the founders of Western philosophy by recording the teachings of his master and his own philosophies in 35 dialogues and 13 letters (some are disputed as spurious). However, this collection features only 25 authentic works from the reproduced source.Benjamin Jowett is credited for translating these works into English.
