Astonish Me!
Astonish Me! is an adrenaline-charged rollercoaster through history's seismic first nights, exploring how individual artists can change and shape the story of culture - and allow us to see ourselves in new ways.
It tells of times when 'the air between people seems to alter' as art achieves profound change, across the globe and across history.
Dominic Dromgoole has created a radical and fresh canon. He begins in New York in 1963, as Lorraine Hansberry remakes American theatre and a nation's perception of race. And then, as the lights go up, we find ourselves in Renaissance Florence, watching Michelangelo's David being hauled into the Piazza della Signoria. The dust settles and we are transported to the birth of theatre in fifth-century Athens - and then to Paris to meet with Diaghilev and Stravinsky for the Rite of Spring. We witness kabuki's creation, as a radical women's performance, in Kyoto; the Sex Pistols shattering Thatcherite Britain at Manchester's Free Trade Hall; and watch as Hitchcock directs Psycho.

Ki nevet a végén
"? Hé, fiatalember! Hová rohan? ? A vesztembe! Nem tudta meg, hogy ez a válasz kielégíti-e az érdeklõdõt. Rohant. Még annyi idõt se engedett magának, hogy hátranézzen, noha tudta, hogy a kedélyes arcú, kis, köpcös kíváncsiskodót máris lesodorhatta a járdáról a kérlelhetetlen üldözõk tömege. ? Siessen, Bobby ? morogta magában ?, szedje a lábát kérem! No mindegy. Kár, hogy valahol az egyik nadrágszárát is letépték..."

Zadig & Voltaire
The first monograph on the contemporary French fashion brand Zadig & Voltaire, published on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
Synonymous with an effortless rock and roll style, Zadig & Voltaire is a Paris-based French fashion brand founded by Thierry Gillier in 1997. With the brand’s name and ethos inspired by the 1747 philosophical novella Zadig, or The Book of Fate, by the French philosopher Voltaire, Gillier seeks to infuse the house with the optimism and modernity that permeates the story. Informed by a modern approach to luxury, the brand’s signature designs blur the boundaries between masculine and feminine, exuding a rebellious spirit and sense of modern cool.
This highly anticipated debut monograph presents Zadig & Voltaire’s history through its most memorable collections, advertising campaigns, and iconic moments. Illustrated with evocative photographs captured by some of the most renowned names in fashion photography, such as Inez & Vinoodh and Olivier Zahm, readers discover the influences and inspirations behind Gillier’s unique vision. Featuring three different types of paper—uncoated for black-and-white photographs; coated for images of design objects; and tipped-in inserts that reproduce the complete text of Zadig across 64 pages, this exceptional piece of bookmaking is a must-have addition to the libraries of fashion aficionados everywhere.

Yves Saint Laurent: Form and Fashion
Yves Saint Laurent invented a multitude of new silhouettes—minimalist, exuberant, round, ultra-structured—that eclipsed traditional forms in fashion.
A fashion revolutionary, Yves Saint Laurent and his creations were resolutely modern. His ongoing exploration of shape and form incessantly pushed the boundaries of his creativity, and lead to his most groundbreaking and iconic designs. His works were influenced by the artistic trends of the time?from simple and geometric abstraction to constructivism and concrete art?whose many movements mirror the multifaceted talent of the designer. A bold, exacting gesture underpinned his art: his minimalist dresses were often monochromatic compositions seemingly sprung from a single line. A colorist, he imagined pure yet exuberant abstract designs by juxtaposing flat surfaces in vibrant hues. Transposing pictorial material into textile, he thus balanced color, form, surface, and line. An illusionist, he would juxtapose black and white to suggest movement in the garment through optical illusion. By using flat, simple lines, shape prevailed over color.
This volume accompanies an exhibition at Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris from June 9, 2023 to January 14, 2024, which will feature key pieces from the Yves Saint Laurent archives in dialogue with the set design and works by ceramic artist Claudia Wieser.

A gyémántos Medzsidje-rend
"A marseillei rendorkapitány eloszobájába udvariasan nyitott be egy középkorú, eroteljes férfi, akinek egyenes, büszke tartása az elegáns polgári ruhában is elárulta katona-voltát. Barna arcáról a zuáv-csapatok valamelyik tisztjének lehetett volna tartani, ha a piros fez, melyet félrecsapva viselt, nem mutatta volna, hogy török. A szolgával beküldte névjegyét a rendorkapitánynak, aki ezt olvasta róla:
YERBA EZREDES a párisi török nagykövetség katonai attaséja.
? Ezt nem értem! ? vágott közbe a rendorkapitány hüledezve. ? Lopás, és mégse lopás?
? Azonnal megmagyarázom, ? mosolygott a török. ? Íme, az elozmények. Két fiatal francia bejutott valahogy a Yildiz-kioszkba s a fölséges Abdul Hamid megajándékozta az egyiket a gyémántos Medzsidje-rend csillagkeresztjével, melynek három-négy millió frank az értéke?"

Karl Lagerfeld: A Life in Houses
The first publication dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld’s glamorous homes, known for their eclectic interiors, ranging from the art deco to the ultramodern.
While Karl Lagerfeld was famous for being at the very center of the fashion industry for over half a century, he was equally opinionated when it came to interiors, which acted as a private creative outlet.
Following an introduction by Patrick Mauries, each house is introduced by a short text by Marie Kalt unveiling the history of Lagerfeld’s homes while identifying key designers and pieces. From his elegant art deco–inspired apartment in Saint-Sulpice, Paris, to the incredibly ornate eighteenth-century mansion Hôtel Pozzo di Borgo, Lagerfeld’s houses reveal he was a collector on a Renaissance scale as they showcase his spectacular range. Lagerfeld balanced the old with the new and moved from one atmosphere to the next, leaving a Memphis-designed apartment in Monte Carlo for a grand tour–themed Roman pied-a-terre, followed by bucolic French country houses and even a majestic Nordic villa in his native Hamburg.
Presented in a large, elegant format, Karl Lagerfeld: A Life in Houses will be a rich source of inspiration for those interested in interior design and will appeal to fans of the decorative arts and the fashion designer himself.

Every Man for Himself and God against All
The long-awaited memoir by the legendary filmmaker and celebrated author. Told in Werner Herzog's inimitable voice, this is the story of his epic artistic career, as inventive and daring as anything he has done before.
Hauling a steamship over a mountain in the jungle; walking from Munich to Paris in the dead of winter; descending into an active volcano; living in the wilderness among grizzly bears - Werner Herzog has always been intrigued by extremes of human experience. Here, he illuminates the influences and ideas that have driven his creativity and shaped his unique worldview.
Herzog's life matches the drama of his famous films: the boy growing up in poverty in a small village in the Alps after the Second World War; the teenager travelling the world in search of adventure that almost cost him his life; the director trying to calm his leading actor Klaus Kinski in the Amazonian jungle. And along the way, Herzog tells of ordinary people with extraordinary stories: rural labourers, circus acrobats, child soldiers.
Every Man for Himself and God Against All is at once a personal record of one of the great self-invented lives of our time, and a masterpiece that will enthral fans old and new. In a hypnotic swirl of memory, Herzog untangles and relives his most important experiences and inspirations, telling his story for the first and only time.

Lee Miller: Photographs
Over one hundred of the most outstanding photographs taken by photographer, model, and surrealist muse Lee Miller, published in anticipation of the film Lee starring Kate Winslet as Miller.
Photojournalist, war correspondent, model, and surrealist muse, Lee Miller was one of the most important women photographers of the twentieth century, working in the fields of photojournalism, fashion, portraiture, and advertising. This book presents over one hundred of Miller’s finest works in a single volume.
Introduced to photography at an early age, Miller honed her craft in Paris, where she associated with the surrealists and other avant-garde artists, including Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso. Together with Man Ray, she discovered the distinctive technique of solarization to create mesmerizing halo effects. After establishing her own photographic studio in New York, where she became a prominent commercial photographer, she then moved to the Middle East and Europe before becoming the official war photographer for Vogue, a period during which she took many of her most iconic photographs.
This evocative book collects Miller’s most famous documentary, fashion, and war works, as well as photographs of Miller. They are all carefully compiled by her son, photographer Antony Penrose, with a foreword by actress Kate Winslet, who will star as Miller in the film Lee.

Sedm lekcí o jsoucnu
Maritain ve svých Sedmi lekcích neprobírá všechna témata klasické metafyziky. Jde o noetické základy metafyziky a o to, co bezprostředně vyplývá z povahy jsoucna, totiž o první ontologické principy. V tomto období vydal i dílo Člověk a stát (1951, česky Praha, Triáda 2007). Roku 1960 se Maritainovi vrátili do Francie, kde Raïssa brzy nato zemřela. V roce 1962 svolal Jan XIII. Druhý vatikánský koncil a krátce poté (1963) byl zvolen papež Pavel VI. Koncil trval do roku 1965 a téhož roku Pavel VI. poctil francouzského filo

Frida Kahlo. 40th Ed.
Among the few women artists who have transcended art history, none had a meteoric rise quite like Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907–1954). Her unmistakable face, depicted in over fifty extraordinary self-portraits, has been admired by generations; along with hundreds of photographs taken by notable artists such as Manuel and Lola Álvarez Bravo, Nickolas Muray, and Martin Munkácsi, they made Frida Kahlo an iconic image of 20th century art.
After an accident in her early youth, Frida became a painter of her own free will. Her marriage to Diego Rivera in 1929 placed her at the forefront of an artistic scene not only in the cultural Renaissance of Mexico, but also in the United States. Her work garnered praise from the poet André Breton, who added the Mexican painter to the ranks of international surrealism and exhibited her work in Paris in 1939 to the admiration of Picasso, Kandinsky, and Duchamp.
We access the intimacy of Frida’s affections and passions through a selection of drawings, pages from her personal diary, and an extensive illustrated biography featuring photos of Frida, Diego, and the Casa Azul, Frida’s home and the center of her universe.
This book allows readers to admire Frida Kahlo’s paintings like never before, including unprecedented detail shots and famous photographs. It presents pieces in private collections and reproduces works that were previously lost or have not been exhibited for more than 80 years.

Glossy
'Dame Anna Wintour might be one of the best-known and most successful journalists on the planet. But it wasn't always like that. When she started out on Vogue she was often so miserable she had to phone her husband for help. This is just one of countless fascinating titbits in this zippy story of dizzying fortune, out-of this-world fashion, ingenuity, passion, sex and power.
And, this being fashion, some intense bitchiness too. Started as a gossip magazine for snobbish New Yorkers in 1892, Vogue is now one of the most recognisable brands in the world. Spanning London, New York and Paris, this is a high-speed, fun read full of fascinating though not always likeable people.' Daily Mail
Glossy is a story of more than a magazine. It is a story of passion and power, dizzying fortune and out-of-this-world fashion, of ingenuity and opportunism, frivolity and malice. This is the definitive story of Vogue.
Vogue magazine started, like so many great things do, in the spare room of someone's house. But unlike other such makeshift projects that flare up then fizzle away, Vogue burnt itself onto our cultural consciousness.
Today, 128 years later, Vogue spans 22 countries, has an international print readership upwards of 12 million and nets over 67 million monthly online users. Uncontested market leader for a century, it is one of the most recognisable brands in the world and a multi-million dollar money-making machine. It is not just a fashion magazine, it is the establishment. But what - and more importantly who - made Vogue such an enduring success?
Glossy will answer this question and more by tracing the previously untold history of the magazine, from its inception as a New York gossip rag, to the sleek, corporate behemoth we know now. This will be a biography of Vogue in every sense of the word, taking the reader through three centuries, two world wars, plunging failures and blinding successes, as it charts the story of the magazine and those who ran it.
