13! (čti „třináct faktoriál“) je mozaika třinácti povídek, v nichž se postavy dostávají do neobvyklých situací, které ne vždy dopadnou úplně dobře. Ale ať už převládne smích nebo smutek, žádná tma není tak temná, aby ji neprozářil černý humor. Příběhy spolu sice nesouvisí, ale pro náročnějšího čtenáře je v nich roztroušeno pár narážek, které mají navodit pocit, že jo. Lze je číst v libovolném pořadí a nejspíš vás ohromí, kolik možností vám to dává. Despite the prevalence of crime series, very little research has been done on how character is conceived. An Old Woman's Reflections
Storytelling kept alive the myths, legends and history of the Blasket Islands. In her old age, Peig Sayers, recounted her life to her son who recorded the tale in this book. She recalls the events of her life and her simple philosophy in a moving poetic style. Such everyday tasks as collecting turf for roots, catching and eating seals, and preparing for a wake are depicted alongside such momentous events as drownings at sea, pilgrimages, and the spread of the news of the Easter uprising in 1916. There were ''clouds of sorrow'', but helping to lift them was the friendship she found in the community, which ''was like a little rose in the wilderness''. The Blasket Islands are three miles off Irelands Dingle Peninsula. Until their evacuation just after the Second World War, the lives of the 150 or so Blasket Islanders had remained unchanged for centuries. A rich oral tradition of story-telling, poetry, and folktales kept alive the legends and history of the islands, and has made their literature famous throughout the world. The 7 Blasket Island books published by OUP contain memoirs and reminiscences from within this literary tradition, evoking a way of life which has now vanished.

Decolonial Deep Mapping
Deep maps capture complex relationships to place and help trace the relationship between the abstract spaces of traditional maps and the cultural and literary history of the places that they represent. Using early modern Ireland as a template, this Element explores how deep-mapping techniques and a decolonial data ethic can be used to assemble a more culturally and linguistically representative archive and create more inclusive literary histories. It shows how deep mapping can disrupt colonial teleology and counter the monophone (and, specifically, anglophone) colonial record by bringing the long-neglected voices of the colonised back into the conversation. In doing so, it recovers a pre-conquest cultural vibrancy which colonisation, the language shift from Irish to English, and scholarly inattention successively occluded. More broadly, it offers a model for engaging with decolonial literary deep maps by developing reading strategies for 'juxtapuntal' reading that has the potential to decolonise the canon.

Kjell Askildsen (1929–2021) je považován za jednoho z nejvýznamnějších norských poválečných spisovatelů. Je autorem několika románů, svůj literární talent ovšem naplno rozvinul v povídkách vydaných v souborech v letech 1982–2005, z nichž čerpá i tento výbor. Jeho minimalistické ironické texty – výrazně ovlivněné francouzským novým románem – o lidech neschopných funkční komunikace byly oceněny řadou norských literárních cen a přeloženy do více než dvaceti jazyků. Českému čtenáři není Askildsen zcela neznámý, jeho povídky vyšly ve výboru Hřebík v třešni (1998), další ve studentských antologiích.
