Stoner
A Stoner eredetileg 1965-ben jelent meg, és nagyjából visszhangtalan maradt. Ötven év elteltével fedezték fel újra és nyerte el méltó helyét az irodalmi kánonban világszerte. Magyarországra 2015-ben jutott el, azóta már másik két regénye, a Butcher’s Crossing (1960) és az Augustus (1972) – melyért elnyerte a Nemzeti Könyvdíjat – is megjelent a Park Könyvkiadónál.
William Stoner tizenkilenc évesen beiratkozik a Missouri Egyetem agrártudományi karára. Később tanár lesz ugyanott. Rosszul nősül. Csendes, észrevétlen életet él, és halála után ritkán jut eszébe kollégáinak.

John Williams (1922-1994) amerikai író, költő. Denverben tanult, majd tanított irodalmat. Főbb művei: Nothing but the Night (1948), Butcher's Crossing (1960), Stoner (1965) és az Augustus, amely 1973-ban megkapta a Nemzeti Könyvdíjat.
