Dopis od Gideona je kniha o životě a díle českého klavíristy, skladatele a pedagoga Gideona Kleina (19191945), jednoho z nejnadanějších hudebníků první poloviny 20. století.
Jeho slibná umělecká kariéra rozvíjející se v meziválečném období byla přervána holocaustem, když byl podle tzv. norimberských zákonů deportován do koncentračního tábora v Terezíně a později do Osvětimi. Gideon Klein by se 6. prosince dožil sta let.

Deep Purple patří k nejvlivnějším a nejznámějším hardrockovým kapelám, které se vynořily z tavícího kotle všemožných hudebních směrů koncem šedesátých let. Skupina několikrát změnila sestavu i styl a uprostřed sedmdesátých let jak se ukázalo, jen dočasně ukončila činnost. Zmiňuje také první čtyři studiové desky Rainbow. Podrobně rozebírá jednotlivé písně všech alb a kromě toho zaznamenává i živé nahrávky, DVD a videa. Výsledkem je dosud nejpodrobněji vydaný průvodce tvorbou skupin Deep Purple a Rainbow z let 19681979. Autor s obdivem a uznáním popisuje proslulé skladby, neváhá ale poukázat ani na to, co se dle jeho mínění až tak nepodařilo. Ano, jde o subjektivní pohled hudebního kritika, každopádně jeho postřehy a komentáře podávají další vhled do stále fascinujících dějin těchto uznávaných skupin. Jste-li jejich zarytými příznivci nebo jednoduše chcete průvodce světem, který leží za Smoke On The Water, tahle kniha je právě pro vás.

Stejně voní žluté květy šafránu jako tvoje vlasy, Kristýnko Psal se 10. květen roku 1953 a v Československém rozhlase poprvé zazněla hudební komedie Sto dukátů za Juana hudebního skladatele Zdeňka Petra a textaře Vladimíra Dvořáka. Na druhý den už improvizovaná serenáda, Píseň pro Kristýnku, zněla ve všech kavárnách a hudebních klubech. Zrodil se hit, který ovlivnil celé generace posluchačů a navždy se nesmazatelně zapsal do dějin české populární hudby. Nikdy jsme s Vladimírem Dvořákem nemohli pochopit, jak šestnáctitaktová písnička, která v podstatě vznikla za pětačtyřicet minut, může způsobit takový rozruch a mít tak dalekosáhlé následky, vzpomíná ve své knize Hudba přítelkyně Zdeněk Petr.
Není to však jen tato inscenace, jejíž zrod nám kniha odhaluje. Jako hudební aranžér, redaktor, režisér a skladatel se během svého života setkal s řadou osobností tehdejší hudební i divadelní scény a podílel se ať už jako autor či spoluautor na mnoha vynikajících a dodnes uváděných hudebních, divadelních i televizních představeních. Ve své knize vzpomíná nejen na své začátky v hudebním nakladatelství R. A. Dvorského, ale i na spolupráci se slavnými V+W, pro které aranžoval hudbu k muzikálu Divotvorný hrnec, s textaři Vladimírem Dvořákem či Ivo Fischerem, s nímž vytvořil mj. muzikály Filosofská historie a Pan Pickwick, anebo s objeviteli Járy Cimrmana Zdeňkem Svěrákem, Miloněm Čepelkou a mnoha dalšími.
Zdeňku Petrovi by bylo letos přesně sto let. Zemřel v roce 1994. Jeho vzpomínky však žijí dál a to, co si z nich odneseme, je vědomí, že řemeslo, dělá-li se poctivě, nikdy nezestárne. Jeho hudba je toho dokladem.
