Sláva Vorlová
Předností knižního pojednání životaběhu náchodské rodačky Slávy Vorlové (1894–1973), jedné z mála mezinárodně úspěšných českých žen-skladatelek, v kompozici žačky Vítězslava Nováka a Jaroslava Řídkého, je úplnost a pečlivost, s níž hudební publicistka Anna Šerých zachycuje umělkynin tvůrčí vývoj i mimořádně pohnutý lidský osud. V květnu 1945 se Sláva stala svědkem popravy svého muže Rudolfa jednotkou SS. Po nástupu komunistů k moci čelila potupnému ožebračení a režimní šikaně, a zatímco platila statisícové daně z poctivě nabytého předválečného majetku (na nějž se pravidelně sápali stalinističtí mocipáni), pokorně žádala o stokorunové tvůrčí odměny ideologií promořené svazové orgány.
Autorka měla k dispozici puntičkářsky podrobné skladatelčiny deníky, což knize dodává pel autenticity téměř dokumentární. Milovníkům hudby poskytuje historicko-estetický vhled textu cosi jako „aplikované dějiny české kultury a společnosti 20. století". Dozvědí se, že pilná Sláva Vorlová a její muž rychle zbohatli, provozovavše čtvero malých obchodů s klobouky a výrobnu, a že se z jejich opulentní a stylově brilantní barrandovské vily stalo počátkem 30. let na celých patnáct sezon vyhledávané centrum domácího provozování soudobé hudby za účasti nejlesklejších tvůrčích osobností své doby. S nástupem „lidově demokratického" režimu umělkyně dlouho živořila v nedobrém psychickém stavu, avšak v poslední dekádě života se chytře uchýlila k technikám tzv. nové hudby (dodekafonie, aleatorika), čímž vyrazila z rukou zbraně bezradným (a vůči novým směrům vývoje ve svobodném světě zamindrákovaným) režimním dohlížitelům.
Strhující kniha přesahuje řemeslný rámec pouhého sledu skladatelského vývoje; noří se hluboko za kulisy společnosti, kultury a hudebního provozu tří režimů a je cennou sondou do socialistických svazových manýr (na základě konkrétních situací a doslovných citací dokumentů!) a obžalobou truchlivé éry povinného masového juchání na pozadí širokého spektra soukromých strachů a všudypřítomné autocenzury.
Dnešní čtenář může se znalostí skladatelčiny převážně neveselé biografie dospět k malému dobrému evangeliu: v těžkých dobách se s výhodou uchylujme ke skromným — třeba i hudebním — radostem, jež se (na rozdíl od politických garnitur) nemění, a nacházejme v nich jak pomocníka při nikdy nekončícím hledání smyslu života, tak tolik potřebou psychickou rezistenci.

Born in Jaffa in 1870, Yosef Eliyahu Chelouche grew up within a notable Sephardi family in the local Jewish community. He went on to become a prominent entrepreneur; a founder of Tel Aviv; and a fierce critic of the Ashkenazi Zionist leadership, Arab nationalism, and British colonial sectarianism; before emerging, in the last decade of his life, as an anguished public figure struggling to repair Arab-Jewish relations. His memoir paints an intimate portrait of life in Palestine at the turn of the twentieth century, told from the perspective of a Middle Eastern Jew deeply embedded in local society. Výstava Hana, ktorá bola sprístupnená v Múzeu mesta Bratislavy od 22. novembra 2024 do 31. augusta 2025, prispela k výraznému rozšíreniu povedomia o Hane Gregorovej (1885 — 1958). Vyvolala vlnu záujmu o túto výnimočnú osobnosť prvej polovice 20. storočia a stala sa impulzom pre vznik tejto knihy. Prináša viacero nových pohľadov na jej život, napísaných z rôznych perspektív. Súčasťou knihy je aj jedenásť doteraz nepublikovaných pôvodných textov Hany Gregorovej, ktoré vedome sprístupňujeme ako voľné pokračovanie dnes už kultovej čítanky Slovenka pri knihe. Aj keď sa život Hany Gregorovej odohrával najmä na území dnešného Slovenska a Česka, jej príbeh má univerzálny rozmer. Je svedectvom o ženskej odvahe a angažovanosti a jeho výpovedná hodnota silno rezonuje aj v súčasnosti.

Together, these experiences triggered a mental health crisis that led her to become suicidal, battling PTSD, betrayed and abandoned by the institution to which she had devoted seven years of her life. Viliam Gérik - O milosť som sa nedoprosoval
Bývalého parašutistu Viliama Gérika v roku 1947 v Prahe na Pankráci popravili. Cez druhú svetovú vojnu bol vycvičený vo Veľkej Británii spolu s Jozefom Gabčíkom a Janom Kubišom, ktorí spáchali atentát na Reinharda Heydricha, zastupujúceho ríšskeho protektora v Čechách a na Morave. Renomovaný slovenský spisovateľ a historik Jozef Leikert na základe archívneho výskumu a výpovedí pamätníkov dospel k názoru, že Gérika nemali obesiť. V knihe Viliam Gérik – O milosť som sa nedoprosoval podrobne píše o dramatickom osude parašutistu, plnom zvratov a nečakaných okolností. Okrem nových historických faktov v nej rezonujú otázky viny či neviny, ale aj postoja a konania ľudí v zlomových situáciách druhej svetovej vojny. V knihe je 700 faksimílií a fotografií, mnohé zverejnené prvý raz.
