Pri zostavovaní zbierky príkladov vychádzali autori z predpokladu, že študent pochopí princípy štatistických metód a bude schopný výsledky z ich aplikácie správne interpretovať, ak vie tieto metódy aplikovať vlastným výpočtom. Zároveň si autori uvedomujú, že pri riešení reálnych úloh sa štatistické metódy aplikujú na veľkých databázach, kde je efektívnejšie využívať štatistický softvér. Aj vzhľadom na túto skutočnosť sú v zbierke obsiahnuté jednak príklady riešené vlastným výpočtom (s využitím kalkulačky, resp. programu MS Excel), ako aj príklady riešené využitím štatistických softvérov Statgraphics Centurion, resp. Statgraphics Plus a SAS Enterprise Guide. Výsledky riešených príkladov sú interpretované. Študent, analytik, ale aj vedecký pracovník, ktorý si bude osvojovať aplikáciu štatistických metód využitím príkladov z tejto zbierky, má k dispozícii aj príklady na riešenie. Ich výsledky sú pre možnosť spätnej kontroly uvedené na konci každej kapitoly. Zbierka príkladov je primárne určená študentom Fakulty hospodárskej informatiky Ekonomickej univerzity v Bratislave, ale aj študentom iných fakúlt Ekonomickej univerzity v Bratislave, resp. ďalších škôl a fakúlt ekonomického zamerania. Cenné poznatky v nej však nájdu aj analytici, vedeckí pracovníci a všetci tí, ktorí sa chcú naučiť, prípadne zdokonaliť v aplikácii základných štatistických metód pri riešení reálnych úloh najmä z ekonomickej a sociálnej oblasti.
