Počet onkologických ochorení stúpa s vekom a tak ako v ostatných európskych krajinách aj na Slovensku pozorujeme so starnutím populácie nárast ich počtu. Celosvetovo je diagnostikovaných približne 20 miliónov nádorových ochorení ročne. Do roku 2040 je očakávaný nárast na viac ako 30 miliónov prípadov ročne. Na základe predikcií Národného onkologického registra, ale aj nedávno publikovanej analýzy Národného centra zdravotníckych informácií s využitím údajov zdravotných poisťovní je na Slovensku diagnostikovaných približne 40 000 zhubných nádorov ročne.
