Ačkoliv se myrmekologie nauka o mravencích ustavila až v 19. století, objevují se mravenci v textech významných přírodovědců a filosofů už od antiky. Jejich obraz se samozřejmě v průběhu dějin měnil, avšak zatím neexistovala ucelená studie, která by zmapovala snahy o pochopení mravenčích societ od nejstarších zmínek v předvědeckých spisech až po současné profesionální práce. A právě tuto mezeru by autor rád alespoň zčásti zaplnil. Ve svém zkoumání se zaměřuje na zmapování různých obrazů mravenců v jednotlivých údobích evropské vědy, snaží se ukázat, jaká témata se v psaní o mravencích a potažmo obecně o společenském hmyzu vyskytovala, co zrovna badatele fascinovalo a co je naopak nezajímalo. Na pozadí obecného vývoje vědy chce ukázat, jak se proměňoval jeden vědecký objekt v tomto případě mravenec. Současně s tím se mu však také odhaluje, jak různé podoby mravence odrážejí různé podoby obrazu člověka, neboť v dějinách myrmekologie vidíme, že její vývoj nápadně blízce odráží i proměny filosofické a sociální. Druhý díl skript rozšířený o názorné ilustrace, které slouží zejména k rozpoznávání jednotlivých druhů obratlovců nejen v přírodě.
Knihu napsal opět pětičlenný kolektiv autorů pod vedením prof. Ing. J. Červeného, CSc. a je určena jako skriptum studentům lesního inženýrství.
První díl představoval ucelenou textovou část, na kterou nyní navazuje praktická část, která názorně doplňuje charakteristiky popisovanych skupin obratlovců.
Hlavní částí tohoto dílu je praktická příručka k terénnímu a následně i laboratornímu sledování lesnicky a myslivecky vyznamnych druhů našich obratlovců. Jedná se zejména o základy stopařství, určování pobytovych znaků v přírodě, klíče k určování důležitych druhů podle vzhledu nebo podle kosterních zbytků a klíčů pro posuzování věku živé nebo ulovené zvěře. Nedílnou součástí skript je i přehled praktickych cvičení, včetně grafickych listů určenych pro tvořivé opakování a doplňování vyučované problematiky.
Bylo by dobře, kdyby se myslivci s obsahem knihy seznámili, alespoň pokud jde o ptáky a savce a kdyby byla kniha zařazena do knihoven okresních mysliveckých spolků.

Nový seznam brouků České republiky vychází téměř po 25 letech. Vyšší taxonomie je zpracována podle v nedávné době vydávaného palearktického katalogu brouků (Löbl & Smetana 20032013) a s přihlédnutím k dalším recentním publikacím, díky kterým došlo k řadě významných změn proti předchozímu katalogu. Pro rozšíření byly použity faunistické rekordy, specializované katalogy nebo regionální publikace zpracované řadou profesionálních i amatérských entomologů-coleopterologů. Využity byly ještě publikace z roku 2016. Při konečné přípravě knihy byla řada čeledí konzultována s předními odborníky na danou skupinu.
