V rámci edice Fauna ČR vychází po dvaceti letech třetí, doplněné a přepracované vydání svazku Ptáci 1 (řády vrubozobí, potáplice, trubkonosí, potápky, plameňáci, čápi, brodiví a pelikáni a veslonozí), tentokrát již zaměřené jen na území České republiky. Záměr vydat toto dílo znovu je podložen jak zájmem široké veřejnosti, tak především současnou situací, kdy se po intenzivním ornitologickém výzkumu v posledních desetiletích nahromadilo tolik nových a významných poznatků nejen z faunistiky a biologie ptáků, ale i nečekaných a nových pohledů na jejich systém a řadu taxonomických problémů, které vyžadovaly zásadní přepracování především obecných kapitol k modernímu poznání této skupiny obratlovců.
