Dezinformace a fake news se množí a je stále obtížnější poznat, co je pravda. Mediální prostředí se podřizuje zájmům politických stran, konkrétního byznysu nebo geopolitickým ambicím celých států. Věda se praktikuje prostřednictvím tiskových zpráv. Startupová kultura povyšuje bullshit na vysoké umění. Jsme poměrně dobře vybaveni k tomu, abychom rozpoznali bullshit starého střihu založený na efektní rétorice a laskavých slovech, ale většina z nás se necítí být kvalifikována k tomu, aby zpochybnila současný bullshit, který je prezentován jazykem matematiky, vědy nebo statistiky.
V knize Tohle je bullshit nám autoři poskytují sadu účinných nástrojů, které nám pomohou proniknout i na první pohled neproniknutelnými údaji. Čerpají z hluboké studnice odborných znalostí v oblasti statistiky a výpočetní biologie a bravurně rozkrývají příklady selekčního zkreslení a zavádějící vizualizace dat. Vždycky jsme potřebovali lidi, kteří v případě potřeby nahlas řeknou „tohle je bullshit“, ať už v kruhu přátel, v komunitě vědců, nebo mezi občany národa. Nyní, když se bullshit tak masivně rozšířil, se musíme znovu naučit umění skepticismu.
