Over the period of more than two decades, Wolfgang Tillmans has explored the medium of photo-imaging with greater range than any other artist of his generation. This book deals with the creator of Surrealist Photography. Man Ray (1890-1976) is indisputably one of the most original artists of the 20th century. His revolutionary nude studies, fashion work, and portraits opened a new chapter in the history of photography. Born under the name of Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia, he began his artistic career in New York. In 1921 he moved to Paris, where he was enthusiastically welcomed into Dadaist and Surrealist circles. For over thirty years, photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952) traveled the length and breadth of North America, seeking to record in words and images the traditional life of its vanishing indigenous inhabitants. The grand master of beauty below the knee. Elmer Batters (1919-1997) was the grand master of leg and foot art. While others preferred the thrill of an inviting cleavage, the maestro's eye was on lower things - trim calves, the arch of a foot, the well-made lines of toes and heels. He chose his models with these criteria in mind - and with the obsessiveness of a Zen artist spent his lifetime looking for the perfect leg. Batters started out publishing his photos himself, but from the late 60s onwards the field was his, and he was the star house photographer of magazines such as "Leg-O-Rama", "Nylon Doubletake" and "Black Silk Stockings", to name but a few. This book pays homage to Batters' great obsession with legs, feet, and toes.

History in the making. A new wonder of the world. "The Mastaba" will not only be Christo and Jeanne-Claude's greatest achievement and only permanent large-scale work, but also the biggest sculpture in the world and one of the most significant creations in history. Conceived in 1977, "The Mastaba" takes its name from an ancient word describing a trapezoidal structure with a flat top, two vertical walls and two outward sloping sides. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's "Mastaba" will be made from 410,000 multi-colored barrels to form a mosaic of bright sparkling colors that echoes Islamic architecture. The sculpture will be 150 meters (492 feet) high, 225 meters (738 feet) deep at the 60 degree slanted walls and 300 meters (984 feet) wide at the vertical walls. The individual colors and the positioning of the 55-gallon steel barrels were chosen by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1979, the year in which the artists first visited Abu Dhabi. They have since returned many times, creating a longstanding friendship with the Emirate and its people. In 2012, the ideal location for "The Mastaba" was identified approximately 160 kilometers south of Abu Dhabi in the stunning desert of Al Gharbia, surrounded by some of the most spectacular dunes in the world.
