The Forks Over Knives Plan
The Forks Over Knives Plan: If you begin with the right strategy, it is more likely that you will succeed in your lifestyle change. Regardless of the degree of vegetarianism you aspire to achieve, you must begin by eating a plant based died and incorporating more plants into your menu to replace the meats. Many of us eat diets largely consisting of meat, although when we really take note of our diet we realize how unnecessary some of these meats are. Most of the meat that we eat can be cut from our diets painlessly, because we eat them without realizing. Those meats that we do eat are easier than we may think to replace with substitutes. Vegetarianism provides a host of health benefits. Many people are interested in beginning this lifestyle change or at least partially replacing the meats in their diets with more plants. At first, this may seem like an overwhelming task. When a person tries to complete this process all at once, it often becomes too overwhelming and he or she may revert back to old eating habits out of frustration. This does not have to happen. One essential step in changing your diet to a plant based diet is to gain the support of others by informing them of your choices. You will need their support to stay on track and also so that they know your new menu requirements. Begin by keeping a journal of food that you have eaten for maybe a week before you decide to make a change. Analyze all ingredients in your chosen meals and keep track of any meat products used. More than likely, you will realize that some of the meat you have been eating is unnecessary and can easily be eliminated. For example, if you find that you've eaten a green salad with chicken and lasagna, it's very easy to remove the chicken from the salad and make meatless lasagna or add vegetable substitutes. For the most part, your foods will taste the same. Many make the mistake of believing they can't eat their favorite dishes anymore because they see meat as a necessary ingredient to these recipes, when, in fact, in most cases the meat is simply an optional addition.

Among the Meadow People
MANY of these stories of field life were written for the little ones of my kindergarten, and they gave so much pleasure, and aroused such a new interest in "the meadow people," that it has seemed wise to collect and add to the original number and send them out to a larger circle of boys and girls. All mothers and teachers hear the cry for "just one more," and find that there are times when the bewitching tales of animals, fairies, and "really truly" children are all exhausted, and tired imagination will not supply another. In selecting the tiny creatures of field and garden for the characters in this book, I have remembered with pleasure the way in which my loyal pupils befriended stray crickets and grasshoppers, their intense appreciation of the new realm of fancy and observation, and the eagerness and attention with which they sought Mother Nature, the most wonderful and tireless of all story-tellers.

The Spider
"When the student of medicine, Richard Bracquemont, decided to move into room #7 of the small Hotel Stevens, Rue Alfred Stevens (Paris 6), three persons had already hanged themselves from the cross-bar of the window in that room on three successive Fridays." The last of them was a police sergeant who had volunteered to sleep in the room to learn what happens that might explain the hangings, and somehow he met with the same fate. The medical student was aware of these incidents, but... "There was one detail about which he knew nothing because neither the police inspector nor any of the eyewitnesses had mentioned it to the press. It was only later, after what happened to the medical student, that anyone remembered that when the police removed Sergeant Charles-Maria Chaumié's body from the window cross-bar a large black spider crawled from the dead man's open mouth. A hotel porter flicked it away, exclaiming, 'Ugh, another of those damned creatures.'"Thus begins this bizarre mystery of "The Spider."

The Spell
A romance set in Italy involving a love triangle of Helen, Inez, and Jack, tangled up in a spell of dual personalities, in the present and in the past. Excerpts:..."SLOWLY THE SPELL BEGAN TO WORK UPON INEZ’ BRAIN. SHE WAS NO LONGER IN THE PRESENT—SHE WAS A WOMAN OF ITALY OF FOUR CENTURIES BACK."...“It has actually happened at last,” the letter began, “and your favorite wager of ‘a thousand to one on the unexpected’ has really won. In other words, I, Helen Cartwright, condemned (by myself) to live and die an old maid as penalty for being so critical of the genus homo, now confess myself completely, hopelessly in love, and so happy in my new estate that I wonder why I ever hesitated."...“Helen, dear,” she [Inez] said, “here in the presence of Mr. Cartwright and Monsignor Cerini I ask your permission to keep in my heart the image of the man I learned to love while we both were beneath the spell. That man no longer exists in the flesh, but I still worship his memory. He can never exist again except as a part of an experience which could never be repeated. Is this asking too much, dear?”“What does it all mean?” cried Helen, gazing at her helplessly—“what does it all mean?”“It means that there have been two Jacks, Helen—one of whom became transformed for a time into a veritable master-spirit of the past. To this man, I admit, I gave a devotion which I shall never—could never—give to any other; but he died, Helen, when the spell broke against that wall at the foot of the hill of Settignano. This man, even during his existence, gave me no devotion in return, and knew not the passion which he inspired in me. He had no heart, but it was not his heart I worshipped. To me his mind—broad, comprehensive, and understanding—stood for all that life could give. The other Jack—the man you married—has never wavered in the love he gave you from the first. He has suffered from the influence of the second personality in that he was forced into the background by the greater strength of this sub-conscious self; but he has also gained from its influence in the development which we all have seen. My Jack is dead, but yours still lives. He needs you, and he longs for the return to him of the wife he has always loved.”

Electric City: The Lost History of Ford and Edison's American Utopia
The extraordinary, unknown story of two giants of American history-Henry Ford and Thomas Edison-and their attempt to create an electric-powered city of tomorrow on the Tennessee River During the roaring twenties, two of the most revered and influential men in American business proposed to transform one of the country's poorest regions into a dream technological metropolis, a shining paradise of small farms, giant factories, and sparkling laboratories. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison's "Detroit of the South" would be ten times the size of Manhattan, powered by renewable energy, and free of air pollution. And it would reshape American society, introducing mass commuting by car, use a new kind of currency called "energy dollars," and have the added benefit (from Ford and Edison's view) of crippling the growth of socialism. The whole audacious scheme almost came off, with Southerners rallying to support what became known as the Ford Plan. But while some saw it as a way to conjure the future and reinvent the South, others saw it as one of the biggest land swindles of all time. They were all true.Electric City is a rich chronicle of the time and the social backdrop, and offers a fresh look at the lives of the two men who almost saw the project to fruition, the forces that came to oppose them, and what rose in its stead: a new kind of public corporation called the Tennessee Valley Authority, one of the greatest achievements of the New Deal. This is a history for a wide audience, including readers interested in American history, technology, politics, and the future.
