Négy kisregény

A Sörgyári capriccio 1970-ben született.

Je oknom do čias minulých, keď človek zápasil s údelom vojny, nezmyselného vraždenia, odlúčenia, spoločenského tlaku, chudoby, rodinných krívd, lásky i pomsty. Obsahuje texty: Božia hra, Dáma, Kňaz, Sedliak, List a Ľudská hra, a z ranej tvorby Výpoveď, Jarmočná anekdota o zlatom krížiku, Dve doby, Rozprávajú každému, Suky a Prvý sneh.

Enem... historki šuškané pod borovicami

100 veselých, neuveriteľných, absurdných aj tragických príbehov Záhoria – zozbieraných a napísaných perom Štefana Nižňanského. Spojenie literatúry, výtvarného umenia i bohýň: Thálie a Hathor. Príhody Záhorákov o Záhorí sú ilustrovaná farebnými výsekmi z obrazov Jozefa Chrenu. Okrem príhod ľudí rôznych profesií, veku z množstva obcí a miest čarovnej príhraničnej lokality dopĺňajú QR kódy s možnosťou prehratia ľudových piesní Cimbálofky Leváranek, Štefan Nižňanský je výborný spisovateľ. Nečudo, veď život sa so Záhorákmi nikdy nehral. Prof. Jozef Leikert

Hastings

‘If I’d been asked to vote on it I would’ve said I’d landed at the centre of the universe. Standing on our corner of Sylvan Road and Victoria Street, with Te Mata Peak, the Tukituki River and the mad wilderness of Windsor Park to the back of me and the distinctly nonwilderness of Cornwall Park and the misty vista of the Ruahines in front of me, I was the master of all I could barely survey.’This charming memoir by one of New Zealand’s best-known painters is a love letter to his home town, Hastings, and the weirdly innocent world of the 1950s and early 1960s.

Shakespeare's White Others

Examining the racially white ''others'' whom Shakespeare creates in characters like Richard III, Hamlet and Tamora ? figures who are never quite ''white enough'' ? this bold and compelling work emphasises how such classification perpetuates anti-Blackness and re-affirms white supremacy. David Sterling Brown offers nothing less here than a wholesale deconstruction of whiteness in Shakespeare''s plays, arguing that the ''white other'' was a racialized category already in formation during the Elizabethan era ? and also one to which Shakespeare was himself a crucial contributor. In exploring Shakespeare''s determinative role and strategic investment in identity politics (while drawing powerfully on his own life experiences, including adolescence), the author argues that even as Shakespearean theatrical texts functioned as engines of white identity formation, they expose the illusion of white racial solidarity. This essential contribution to Shakespeare studies, critical whiteness studies and critical race studies is an authoritative, urgent dismantling of dramatized racial profiling.

Mutual Strangers

Collecting two decades of remembrances from China’s premier literary caricaturist, these short stories offer bite-sized misdeeds committed by Nanjing’s underground literati. Freed from family duties, the “boys” spend their nights freewheeling and trying their luck with pretty girls amid a haze of cigarette smoke and cheap beer. However, as the evening drags on, trouble brews and dates turn sour. Their only real solace is an unspoken camaraderie. After the tales of cruel pranks, cramped apartments, sleazy karaoke bars and dead cats, maybe the joke will be on them – but for now, the night has only just begun.

Modern British Nature Writing, 1789–2020

Why do we speak so much of nature today when there is so little of it left? Prompted by this question, this study offers the first full-length exploration of modern British nature writing, from the late eighteenth century to the present. Focusing on non-fictional prose writing, the book supplies new readings of classic texts by Romantic, Victorian and Contemporary authors, situating these within the context of an enduringly popular genre. Nature writing is still widely considered fundamentally celebratory or escapist, yet it is also very much in tune with the conflicts of a natural world under threat. The book''s five authors connect these conflicts to the triple historical crisis of the environment; of representation; and of modern dissociated sensibility. This book offers an informed critical approach to modern British nature writing for specialist readers, as well as a valuable guide for general readers concerned by an increasingly diminished natural world.

In ‘The Patron Saints of Middle Age,’ a woman visits two friends she hasn’t seen since her divorce. In ‘A for Alone,’ a married artist embarks on a project intended to disprove the so-called Mike Pence Rule, which suggests that women and men can’t spend time alone together without lusting after each other. Women in Dark Times

Women in Dark Times begins with three remarkable women: revolutionary socialist Rosa Luxemburg; German-Jewish painter Charlotte Salomon; and film icon Marilyn Monroe. The story of these women, bound together by their struggles against iniquity, blazes a trail across some of the defining features of the twentieth century – revolution, totalitarianism and the American dream – and compels us to reckon with the unspeakable. Bringing to the surface the subterranean depths of history and the human mind that dominant political vocabularies cannot bear to face, pioneering critic and public intellectual Jacqueline Rose forges a new language for feminism. Extending her argument into the present, Rose turns her focus to ‘honour’ killings and celebrates contemporary artists whose work grows out of an unflinching engagement with all that is darkest in the modern world. Women in Dark Times, reissued a decade after its original publication, offers a template for a scandalous feminism, one which confronts all that is most recalcitrant and unsettling in the struggle to create a better world.

The Idea of the City in Late Antiquity

The city was one of the central and defining features of the world of the Greek and Roman Mediterranean. Challenging the idea that the ancient city ''declined and fell'', Andrew Wallace-Hadrill argues that memories of the past enabled cities to adapt and remain relevant in the changing post-Roman world. In the new kingdoms in Italy, France and Spain cities remained a key part of the structure of control, while to contemporary authors, such as Cassiodorus in Ostrogothic Italy, Gregory of Tours in Merovingian Gaul, and Isidore in Visigothic Spain, they remained as crucial as in antiquity. The archaeological evidence of New Cities founded in this period, from Constantinople to Reccopolis in Spain, also shows the deep influence of past models. This timely and exhilarating book reveals the adaptability of cities and the endurance of the Greek and Roman world.

A čo slovenská tvorba?
