Hexy Witch

Following her 2021 bestselling memoir Don''t Laugh, It''ll Only Encourage Her comes the laugh out loud follow-up Hexy Witch.''My life''s changed a lot since This Country came out. Among all the amazing times there have been some stranger ones: the time a man climbed the wall into my garden and curled one out on the lawn while staring me dead in the eyes. Or that time I was visited by a pair of legs running around my bedroom as I watched Paw Patrol with my son. And I will never ever forget joining a coven, regressing to a past life, and attempting to have sex with a ghost.I know that talking about this stuff still feels very taboo. If you say you are a believer in certain circles it''s like announcing to a meeting of the Women''s Institute that you masturbate. Or dropping the C-bomb in front of a parish priest. But for as long as I can remember I''ve been fascinated by the unexplained.I''ve explored haunted houses, interrogated experts who claim they can communicate with the other side, and investigated paganism, which turned out to be a front for swinging.Things have always cracked me up but they''re about to get HEXY

Joe Cole, Luxury Player

The long-awaited memoir from England, Chelsea and West Ham legend, Joe Cole ''I want to tell you about how football - English football - felt different for me. For much of my life it felt like I was in the wrong place, trying to play a different tune.''One of the best players of his era, Joe Cole was the teenage prodigy in a West Ham team that challenged at the top of the Premier League and also had a scrap at the bottom. He was a star in Roman Abramovich''s Chelsea that changed football forever as well as England''s so-called Golden Generation. He grew up playing football in the parks and cages of North London''s estates, and Joe''s ability, grit and hard work, took him to the very top. But Joe was often mistrusted by managers and out of step with the style of English football in the 2000s. The game was still suspicious of creative footballers it considered luxury players - the kind it could regard as an indulgence. With honesty and an eye for the absurdities of football, Joe takes us inside the dressing room to reveal it all. From his days at the prestigious Lilleshall School of Excellence and rising through the ranks at West Ham, to signing for Chelsea and winning it all under José Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, before being discarded by his boyhood club after a remarkable 7-year spell. He offers an insider account of a fascinating era in modern football, playing alongside the likes of Lampard and Drogba, Beckham and Rooney, Gerrard and Di Canio. He talks about his experiences playing for England, his extraordinary goal against Sweden at the 2006 World Cup, and the reality of being managed by Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. It was a remarkable career. Then came the tumultuous end, as Joe battled severe injuries and his family suffered loss. He takes us on the journey of a great player coming to terms with his waning powers as his body began to fail him and football moved on. Football had given him everything. But then, it was over. Beyond football, Joe writes movingly of his family, his father''s brushes with the law, and how an inner-city working class family adjusted to the fame of their son.Candid, raw and unforgettable, this is Joe Cole in his own words for the very first time, a must-read for any football fan.

Alice

The remarkable, moving story of Prince Philip''s mother by eminent biographer Hugo Vickers, updated in this new edition - for fans of Kingmaker and The Lives and Deaths of the Princesses of Hesse''Gripping. Hugo Vickers has pulled off an extraordinary feat in describing the life - in many ways tragic - of Princess Andrew of Greece. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is a masterpiece.'' - A. N. Wilson''Vickers tells this story with a sure touch and an expertise that only he can command'' SUNDAY TIMES''A sympathetic, piquant and well-defined portrait of a spirited woman'' LITERARY REVIEW''Sympathetic yet free of pathos, Vickers''s life celebrates an unusual and fascinating woman'' KIRKUS-------- Princess Alice, mother of Prince Phillip, was something of a mystery figure even within her own family. Profoundly deaf, she was born at Windsor Castle in the presence of her great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, and brought up in England, Darmstadt, and Malta. In 1903 she married Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark, and from then on her life was overshadowed by wars, revolutions, enforced periods of exile. Further crisis hit when, at the age of forty-five, she was removed from her family and placed in a sanatorium in Switzerland, where she was pronounced a paranoid schizophrenic. As her stay in the clinic became prolonged, there was a time where it seemed she might never walk free again. Yet she recovered. Illuminating and enthralling, eminent biographer Hugo Vickers''s account of her life is as tumultuous and extraordinary as the times she lived through.

Memoirs of a Bengal Civilian

. Beames was a man of strong opinions and was often in trouble with the authorities because of his outspokenness. He thought little of Lieutenant-Governors as a class. But his special dislike was reserved for Sir Richard Temple, Lt. Governor of Bengal, whose vanity and self-glorification he couldn't stand. There were instances when Beames stood by the people against tyranny. But, ironically enough, he also shared the casual racism of his peers and did not recognise Indian ICS officers as his academic and cultural equals: he strongly distrusted the Bengali intelligentsia. Beames was a pioneer philologist. A magnum opus of his is the three volume Comparative Grammar of the Modern Aryan Languages of India (1872-79). Other works of his include Outline of Indian Philology (1867) and Grammar for the Bengali Language (1891). He knew a number of languages including Persian, Sanskrit, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, and Hindi and had a working knowledge of German, French and Italian. Beames started writing his Memoirs in 1875 but completed the task only after retirement, in England. His outspokenness which held him down in his career is his chief strength as a writer and tremendously enhances the value of his estimates of men and affairs of his time.

Chris Claremont

Chris Claremont (b. 1950) is best known for his landmark sixteen-year author run on Uncanny X-Men. This is the longest author run in Marvel comics history, one that saw X-Men go from a title on the verge of cancellation to one of the most popular comics for over a decade and, eventually, a multibillion-dollar film franchise. While Claremont’s influence on popular culture is becoming more widely recognized, this volume offers an in-depth exploration of how his life shaped his work and the deep sources of inspiration behind his iconic characters and storylines. From Britain to Israel to the New York demimonde, Claremont’s relationships, education, upbringing, collaborations, and faith all contribute to his voice and to the creations that he wrought with it. The story of Chris Claremont is the story of a creator who achieved popular success whilst making a significant artistic contribution to his chosen medium, including the first African American superheroine, the first Black superhero team leader, the first canonically Jewish Marvel superhero, extensive queer subtext, extensive BDSM imagery, the first superhero team with a strong female roster, and the best-selling single-issue comic of all time. This volume heralds an impressive career and marvels at how Claremont accomplished all of this within mainstream comics.

Last Boy of ’66

And here comes Hurst. He''s got... Some people are on the pitch. They think it''s all over. It is now. It''s four!Geoff Hurst''s extraordinary hat trick turned him into a global superstar overnight. There is no player in the history of the game so universally identified with a single match. But the full story of the nation''s biggest ever sporting victory is about much more than those final moments. Here Geoff remembers his teammates, the times they spent on and off the pitch, the extraordinary journey they went on together, what football meant to each of them, their work ethic, their culture of team loyalty, their continued bond over the decades. The enormous salaries paid to today''s Premier League stars means that when they finish playing, few will ever have to work again. The 1966 team never had that option. They were payed L60 per match, and received a L1,000 bonus for winning. Most tried, and failed, to become successful managers, with Jack Charlton being a notable exception. Twenty years after they scored the England goals in the final, Geoff and Martin Peters were selling motor insurance. Ray Wilson was an undertaker.Yet all remained aware they achieved something on 30th July 1966 which may never be repeated, and did so staying close to their roots. The day after the final Alan Ball stopped at a motorway cafe on the M6. One or two people asked to see his winner''s medal, then left him to his egg and chips. Geoff mowed the lawn. ''That''s what you did on a Sunday''.In Last Boy of 66 our 1966 hat-trick hero takes us back to those very different days. A definitive and important eye-witness account, to be treasured by fans and historians for generations to come.

Arne Slot

Arne Slot: The Biography is the definitive portrait of the Dutch manager who took on one of the toughest jobs in football – succeeding Jürgen Klopp – and delivered a Premier League triumph in his first season at Liverpool FC. Slot had proven himself in the Netherlands – leading AZ Alkmaar to a second-place finish and delivering Feyenoord their first title in six years. With a bold, high-pressing style and sharp mind, he had earned a reputation as one of Europe’s brightest managerial prospects. When Klopp’s era ended in 2024, Anfield held its breath. But Slot stepped into the void with calm authority and tactical brilliance. By Christmas, Liverpool were top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables, having lost just once. Key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai found renewed form under his leadership. Slot ushered in a new era of confidence and cohesion at Anfield. In this richly detailed biography, acclaimed Dutch author Maarten Meijer traces Slot’s journey from the quiet village of Bergentheim to the Premier League summit. Seeing Through

The true confessions of a working opera composer: an exhilarating story of "a life that comes out of chaos." At eight years old, Ricky Ian Gordon pulled The Victor Book of Opera off his piano teacher’s bookshelf, and his world shifted on its axis. Though scandal, sadness, and confusion would shake that world over the next few decades, its polestar remained constant. Music has been the guiding force of Gordon’s life; through it, he has been able not only to survive great sorrow but also to capture the depths of his emotion in song. It is this strength, this technical and visceral genius, that has made him one of our generation’s greatest composers. In Seeing Through, Gordon writes with humor, insight, and incredible candor about his life and work: a tumultuous youth on Long Island, his artistic collaborations and obsessions, the creation of his compositions (including The Grapes of Wrath, 27, Orpheus and Euridice, Intimate Apparel, Ellen West, and more), his addictions and the abuses he endured, and the loss of his partner to AIDS and the devastation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As Gordon writes of that period: “We were, thousands of us, Lazarus. We had to rise from the ashes. We didn’t have to rebuild our lives, we had to build new ones.” Gordon has succeeded in building a remarkable life, as well as a body of work that bears witness to all he survived in the process—one that will endure as a pivotal chapter in America''s songbook.
