Postman ve své slavné knize tvrdí, že každá civilizace má své dominantní médium, které určuje, na co daná civilizace soustředí pozornost, což autor označuje výrazem „médium je metafora“. Autorova kniha vyšla v USA v osmdesátých letech minulého století, kdy dominovala televize, jeho kniha tedy pojednává především o vlivu tohoto média.
V televizi (ale platí to dodnes) je kladen výraz na vizuální stránku, zábavnost, senzačnost, emoce. Zprávy nemají v první řadě informovat, nýbrž být zajímavé. Divák nad nimi nestíhá přemýšlet, protože televize chrlí jednu zprávu za druhou. To ovlivňuje i způsob, jakým se prezentují politici nebo představitelé církví a jakým se učí na školách. Lidé nevolí politiky podle jejich politické vize, ale spíše podle vzhledu a zábavnosti. Žijeme ve „světě kukátka“, kde je informací mnoho, ale nedávají smysl. Být inteligentní znamená spíše vědět o ledasčem, a nikoli to skutečně znát. Z vážných věcí se stává show a z občanů pasivní konzumenti, kteří se smějí, aniž by vlastně věděli čemu. Autor vybízí, abychom kvůli vizuálním médiím neslevovali z intelektuálních potřeb a vážnosti, jež jsou podle něj typické pro kulturu tištěných médií.

Uvedomovanie si nemožnosti prežitia pod vodou pri akomkoľvek pochybení vytvára významný tlak na psychiku potápača už pred samotným ponorom. Neobvyklú fyzickú záťaž generuje aj vlastné vodné prostredie, kladúce odpor každému pohybu človeka-potápača. Napokon, pri dobrej fyzickej a psychickej adaptácii na vodné prostredie a použití sofistikovaného potápačského výstroja dokáže človek hoci aj opakovaný pobyt pod vodou nielen prežiť bez ujmy na zdraví, ale aj zmysluplne využiť. Žiaľ, nie každý zostup potápača pod hladinu vody končí opätovným bezproblémovým vynorením, u rekreačných potápačov spojeným s nezvyčajnými zážitkami zo sveta pod vodou, u pracovných potápačov s vedomím splneného pracovného úkonu. Pobyt potápača pod vodou, akokoľvek technicky zabezpečený, je vždy situáciou rizikovou, ktorá sa môže z celého radu dôvodov a príčin v ktoromkoľvek momente „zlomiť" a ďalej vyvíjať tak, že výsledkom bude potápačská nehoda, ktorú potápač nemusí prežiť. A práve týmto tragickým momentom konca života človeka-potápača, ich príčinám a súvislostiam, je venovaná táto kniha.
Predkladaná monografia vychádza predovšetkým z odborných znalostí a obsiahleho archívu znaleckých posudkov dvoch súdnych znalcov Slovenskej a Českej republiky (František Novomeský pre hyperbarickú a potápačskú medicínu, úrazy a smrteľné nehody pri potápaní, SR; Miloslav Haták pre potápačské práce, bezpečnosť práce pri potápačských prácach a pri rekreačnom potápaní, ČR), pričom reflektuje nielen osobné skúsenosti obidvoch spoluautorov s potápačskými nehodami v rovine desiatok rokov ich expertíznej činnosti, ale aj dlhoročnej osobnej potápačskej praxe ako inštruktorov potápania rekreačného, technického či pracovného. Spoluautorka monografie Veronika Rybárová, súdna lekárka a kvalifikovaná potápačka, sa na monografii podieľala hĺbkovou analýzou vybraných prípadov úmrtí potápačov z archívov obidvoch vyššie menovaných znalcov vrátane a záverov znaleckých expertíz do štrukturálnej podoby svetovo akceptovaných kritérií príčin a okolností úmrtí potápačov pod vodou. Komplexný rozbor vybraných reálnych prípadov smrteľných nehôd potápačov v SR a ČR tak odzrkadlil zložitosť a náročnosť znaleckého skúmania a interpretácie príčin týchto ľudských tragédií, pre laickú verejnosť obvykle zastretých imaginárnym „rúškom tajomstva". Posledných ponorov potápačov, ktorí prišli o život v tom azda najviac znepokojujúcom, pre človeka neveľmi priateľskom vodnom prostredí našej planéty.

Soubor případových studií předních odborníků k podobám jednoho z nejvýznamnějších antických božstev. Řeckou Afroditu, kterou Římané znali jako Venuši, studie analyzují z různých úhlů. Chronologicky obsahují období od antiky až po současnost a vedle historických témat se zabývají i současným uměním a divadelní praxí. Na projektu se podíleli badatelé z různých oborů: klasické archeologie, klasické filologie, religionistiky, dějin umění, divadelní a hudební vědy. Publikace vychází z vědecké konference Afrodita včera a dnes pořádané dne 22. září 2021. Konference navazovala na výstavu Afrodita dnes, kterou pořádala Akademie věd České republiky a Spolek grafických umělců Hollar ve výstavní síni Věda a umění.
